I was recently given the opportunity to read a pre-released PDF of Christine Hoover's new book With All Your Heart: Living Joyfully Through Allegiance to King Jesus. And, after reading the electronic version, I'm eager to get my physical copy in the mail this coming week that I preordered - this book is one that I want to read again and slowly work my way through with highlighter and pen in hand. She doesn't hold back on asking her readers (as she has herself) to look at where we are putting our trust and allegiances in our lives. Anything other than Jesus is settling for less! Parts of this book were uncomfortable to read as she pointed me towards areas where I need to submit to Christ versus my own version of control.
This book is an invitation to examine the things you’ve aligned your heart to and how to turn your heart back towards God. Christine is an approachable author. She shares plenty of personal stories and anecdotes to help the reader understand the points Hoover is trying to make.
With All Your Heart is an approachable book. But I found it lacking some of the depth I had hoped would be in the pages. It’s a great beginning exploration of idolatry.
In this pandemic, I have been brought back to this book time and again! Hoover delves deeply into scripture and the pull of our hearts to lesser loves. In this time when the idols of my heart have been laid bare, I have been grateful for the framework and truth this book has brought to my life.
I would recommend this to small groups, Bible teachers, and those seeking to align their loves to God.
As I’m reading the through the Bible, over and over I’m reminded that God cares about our hearts - bottom line. It’s all that he’s wanted from the start. This was such a refreshing reminder of what it should look like to fully hand over our hearts, or allegiances, to God.
Christine Hoover not only writes beautifully (seriously - what a gift!) but she writes with such intention for her readers to fully pledge their hearts to the Lord. She starts by sharing why God wants our hearts and why it’s good for us, and then goes through many of the other things that we often pledge ourselves to that are less than and never ultimately fulfilling.
Since I’ve started reading ‘With All Your Heart’ I find myself thinking throughout the day how I can turn away from the things that tempt our hearts and instead turn towards the One who gives me everything I need. It’s a great book that I’d recommend to any woman seeking to deepen their daily commitment to the Lord.
Absolutely a joy to read! A very uplifting book about Jesus’s love and caring for us. Highly recommend
I love anything Christine Hoover writes - even though her books are often so hard to read because they are so convicting! I wanted to highlight every single word of With All Your Heart. It is a book that really presses at your soul to consider where your allegiance lies - with Jesus, or with things of this world. What I particularly loved about this book was that it is a great combination of personal experience, Biblical truth, and questions to make you think. This is definitely a book I will return to time and time again.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
With All Your Heart: Living Joyfully Through Allegiance to King Jesus
By: Christine Hoover talks about our divided loyalties. I have enjoyed other Christine’s writings and listen regularly to her podcast. I was excited to see she had a new book coming out.
This is such an important message. She discusses a King and His Kingdom, the false kings, and then an unshakable kingdom. Our hearts are often swayed to follow other “kings and kingdoms” as she calls them but we know the true King. This is a message that anyone could be blessed by especially when the world around seems out of control. I often need to be reminded everyday of the Gospel and the hope we have and this book will help you do that.
I was blessed to receive an electronic copy via the publisher. All opinions are my own.
"With All Your Heart" by Christine Hoover is a non fiction Christian book. Christine is a pastor's wife. She is the author of By Faith podcast. She has written for the Gospel Coalition. Her website is www.christinehoover.net . Christine focused about our need to have our whole allegiance to Jesus. We need our focus to be with Him first and not looking to other things to fill our need for Him. We look to many things in the world to make us happy. Jesus is supposed to be first in our lives. This book is great for pastor's wives, counselors, to use with new Christians. Thank you to netgalley, the publisher, .the author,, for allowing me to read and review this book. I will post my review on netgalley, Goodreads, facebook, my blog, Barnes and Noble, and for the Church staff.
