Now this is a book with everything you thought you wouldn’t like but did anyway! Suspense, alpha males, kick a** female, and a little romance thrown in to make it all work! New author for me but she’s on the ‘have to read’ list.

The book is good and could have been even better if it not been for some illogical and unbelievable events. The female character is portrayed as the modern Lara Croft who survives rape, bullets, assaults and, moreover, kills one of the attackers. The male character is an alpha male who, after 24 hours, falls in love with the main character and decides that he will risk his life as well.
Some things are unclear, but I will not say that the book is wrong. Maybe I was expecting too much as far as I am concerned the book deserves 3 stars.
Thank you for this opportunity.

I was on the edge of my seat the whole time trying to figure out who and what! I loved how they brought in this family that has secluded themselves away from other people, yet she happened to stumble upon trying to get away from her pursuer. I hope there will be other books in this series

Wow, what an exciting suspense book for my introduction to Amanda Kinney's writings. After their father's suspicious death, Gage Steele and his brothers run their father's security firm. When Niki is sexually assaulted by two men in ski masks, Nikki runs blindly through the woods. When she breaches the Steele's compound, Gage finds her. Gage believes it was a personal attack and offers her protection. I received a free copy of the ebook from the publisher through Netgallery. This is my honest and voluntarily given review. This was such a quick read for me because I didn't want to put this book down. Due to the type of characters the brothers are (former Marines) , the language is grittier than I normally read and so is their descriptions of the women they spend a night with. There is a lot of sizzle in this book and one very steamy scene. I liked this book very much and plan to put Cabin 2 in my TBR pile.

Wow, what’s not to love about a book with a lot of sexy ex military men oozing with total sexiness .......this book is about Gabe who’s a twin and a girl he saves and well I don’t want to spoil this gripping, page turning, and stay up late reading book ....... and yes it ends with a cliff hanger that I had to go to Amazon and get Cabin 2 When that is done I’ll get cabin 3 which is last of this 3 book series

First, the rape scene that opens the book was a hard way to open. Then the narration switches to the man POV and his internal dialogue about his disillusionment since leaving the marines, and his womanizing. The author tries to make Gage into an alpha male but he is a steriotypical a**hole. The heroine was not memerable (I have already forgotten her name). She was also tstl (to stupid to live). She ignores all the protection suggestions that the soldiers told her because she is an independent woman and does not obey men. Honestly the mystery was not complicated enough to carry a full novel. This seems to be a first book for the author. Hopefully she will get better.

The start of the book grabs your heart; starting with the suspense from the first-person perspective. Typical hero and heroine, Gage is one of the Steele brothers who suffering from the loss of his father. He constantly drinks and has one-night stands. Nikki is a determined gutsy attorney who willing to go up against Gage. The book starts with Nikki running from people who attempt to rape her. While running from her chaser, she stumbles onto the Steele’s property all batter and bruised. Her cases turn into an attempted murder case, and while they figure out who after her, they fall for each other.
This is my first suspense romance book I read. Even though the story was a bit cliché, I like the suspense that revolved around their father's death. However, I have a hard time reading books with characters having instant attraction. Gage reasoning was no one gone up against him before, she has guts, and he likes her for that. I’ve been confused at some point, I wasn’t sure if I was reading a supernatural book. There was a scene talking about his animal instinct kicking in and he would have sucked her blood if it were that kind of book.
I want to like it but this isn’t for me. Overall, the writing is easy to read and the suspense was the only thing that kept me reading to the end. I think the character can still working on their development. It just felt a bit rush to me and I couldn’t fully enjoy their characters.

Running for her life after an attack, Niki runs onto the Steele brothers' property and it's instant attraction between her and Gage. The brothers run a security company started by their father who had died a year earlier - that is the overall mystery of this series - whether or not their father died of natural causes.

While I enjoyed the book and the romance, what struck me was how the book seemed to start at a good pace building up the mystery of Niki's attack and then suddenly switched gears and everything went really fast. Her mystery was solved quick and I think the book only takes place over a couple of days and she and Gage, a known ladies man, go from hello to I love you in a short amount of time.

As for the end of the book - I hate cliffhangers. I was definitely surprised by the end and honestly given how these brothers supposedly have this safe, impenetrable fortress for their clients, people seem to sneak in and out and come and go with little detection.

Thanks to the publisher for a review copy via NetGalley.

Gage Steele is a playboy to the inth degree and since his father's death, an inconsolable drunk.

Niki Avery, ADA, gets attacked on the side of the road and wanders around until she gets lost in the woods where the Steele Shadows Security team (and brothers) live.

Under Gage's protection, both Avery and Gage inch closer and closer to the personal fire that has been building.

This is a hot fun sassy book that I highly recommend.

Cabin 1 is my first Amanda McKinney story and it will definitely not be the last. I cannot wait to get my hands on the rest of the series along with all of her entire backlist! This story was a fast-paced, edge of your seat thrill ride. Holy buckets! This author packs one heckuva punch.

Even though the romance was extremely fast-paced, although it felt like the timeline moved faster than it truly did, the story flowed very well and worked perfectly. This story was filled with not only suspense but lots of heat and steam as well.

This was filled with suspense, right from page one! Nicki is having a very bad night-run off the road, being attacked by two masked men and fighting for her life. She fights & runs for her life into the woods, hoping to survive the night. The only good thing is that the woods lead her to Gage and his brothers who make up Steele Shadows Security. Their compound is on the mountain, and they find her, bring her in, clean her up and help her. Protect her, although that job does not end when they find her. Because someone keeps trying to kill her. And in the middle of all that, Gage and Nicki are combustible together. Every chapter was a page turner, there were so many different angles to dissect, and mysteries going on. I very much enjoyed this!! And with the way it left off, I’m gonna need to read the next one!

I wanted to love Cabin 1 - but I just could not. The premise of an ex-military he-man rescuing and falling in love with a smart, feisty woman usually works for me. Unfortunately, this particular novel just wasn’t ready for publication. It badly needs more editing, and generally feels rushed and inadequate on many levels.

The author goes to great lengths to describe specific details on how much Gage drinks and itemizes how many shots, beers and glugs he consumes. What doesn’t make sense is that after hours of drinking, he comes across a damsel in distress who describes him as smelling “woodsy, like country air, pine needles, with a hint of soap.” Um, I don't know about you, but I've crossed paths with many a man after a night of drinking and they never have smelled great...I doubt it's just me.

The descriptors in general were lazy and uninspired, I think she could have done a bit better than just “vast” to describe the mountains. The characters need some better-written depth. As romance readers, we aren't looking for great literature (ammiright?!?), but a plot with reasonably constructed characters that are, at the very least, engaging. What this book offers is only a flimsy plot and ham-handed descriptions of emotional wreckage.

Thanks to NetGalley for the advance copy to review.

I enjoyed this book. Romance and suspense. The characters were volcanic and the attraction explosive . The story pulls you in. This is the first in what seems to be an interesting series.

I typically love romantic suspense novels but this one was a mess. “Hero” can’t think of anything but sex with the heroine right after she was almost raped? Everything was solved too quickly and the timeline and insta love was just jarring.

Sorry, but Cabin 1 just didn’t cut it. The concept of ex-military he-man rescuing and falling in love with a smart, feisty woman usually works for me. Sadly, this particular novel just wasn’t ready for publication. It badly needs more editing. The author goes to great lengths to describe how much Gage drinks and itemizes how many shots, beers and glugs from a liquor bottle he consumes in great detail. What doesn’t make sense is that after hours of drinking, he comes across a damsel in distress who describes him as smelling “woodsy, like country air, pine needles, with a hint of soap.” Seriously? And maybe she could have found words beyond “vast” to describe the mountains. The characters need some better-written depth. We readers don’t need great literature to satisfy our romance fix. We do, however, want more than a flimsy plot and ham-handed descriptions of emotional wreckage. Please let the characters come to life via the plot.

Cabin 1 is the first book in the Steele Shadows Security #1 by Amanda McKinney. This series is based in the small, southern town of Berry Springs. The Steele brother’s father has died and the sons have returned from their lives to help take over the business. As with the first books in a series, we are introduced to a number of new characters quickly. One of the characters is Gage Steele, an ex military member who has been trying to medicate himself unsuccessfully with drink and women. His brothers are worried about him and want him to step up.

Niki Avery was pushed off the road and attacked. She fought back and ran and somehow ended up at the Steele Security property. Gage was assigned to help protect her. The mystery is not a straight line and the culprits are not clear. Niki is sass and argumentative and not good at taking orders - even from sexy, overly macho, seriously hot Gage!

Cabin 1 by Amanda McKinney was a fast, HOT read. I enjoyed the storyline and while I was not overwhelmed by the main character at first, Gage grew on me. Cabin 1 was a good read.

This book gets you from the first page of Niki running to save herself. It has you turning the pages to find out her story and learn more about the brothers Steele. Out first introduction being Gage and he definitely gets your heart racing in a very good way. Suspense, Romance, Intrigue, Sex, Betrayal and an stunning backdrop, this book really does have it all. Amanda McKinney keeps you on you toes and turning the pages to read more. And I love a good series so cant wait for Cabin 2 and Cabin 3, maybe the Steele's will build more cabins to keep it going.
Thank you to NetGalley, Amanda McKinney and HH Tisevich for the ARC

Found the style of writing a bit staccato. It didn't flow. Not sure if it was because the story was not a gentle one, but not in the same class as other romantic suspense writers. Not my favourite, I'm afraid.
