I read this ARC for an honest review
All thoughts and opinions are mine
The first in a series and the first time I have read this author - can't wait for the next one !!
Great, engaging characters. Loved the story
Multi faceted story with twists and turns and really with a lot of depth
really enjoyed this
I liked the fact Niki didn't hide her background, she just didn't want to be tarred with the same brush as her dad. Neither Gage not Niki are the clear cut stereotype they believe each other to be and I'm dying to know what happens now - cos that sneak peak at the next book -eeeeeeeeeep!
This is wonderfully written, with a very captivating story line!!! I could not put the book down. Excellent read!
I enjoyed reading Cabin 1 and about Gage and Niki. There were several aspects of the story that I like and am really drawn to when reading. The suspense and mystery, hiding out from danger, the protectiveness from the male character were just a few. I liked that Niki was a strong character, not backing down and fighting for herself and survival. The only issue I had with this story was how quick the insta-love was. I'm normally okay with reading insta-love but theirs was a little too quick for me to be believable. This book ends in a cliffhanger (not for the couple though) so I will likely continue the series to get answers.
This series start contains a love story with excitement, which ensures that the sequel is eagerly awaited
I've never read Amanda McKinney before, but I know this won't be the last time! Niki was a strong heroine - successful despite her difficult past, and brave in the face of a horrible attack. Fortunate to run into Gage and not something (or someone) worse in the woods after she's attacked, these two have chemistry that's off the charts, and the plot held a suspenseful mystery that had me guessing and unable to put it down.
This is the first book I've read from this author and I doubt it will be the last.
Niki and Gage are engaging characters. She is the workaholic Lawyer trying to put her fathers shady past behind her. He is the guilt-ridden, grief-stricken son of a billionaire security company owner who is using women and alcohol as a crutch.
There were plenty of twists and turns and storyline was quite gripping and harrowing in places. Yes, Gage did come across as a misogynistic ass at times but I like to think that once he's dried out he is quite likeable. I did feel a bit like thumping him when his first thoughts on finding NIki were how he'd like to "do her" when it was clear she was in some distress. But the protective instincts eventually overrode the douche instincts and he became a hero I could enjoy.

Someone tried to kill her. Niki is on the run from a killer, when she stumbles on a log mansion deep in the mountains. Gage with his brother owns a security company. When a woman stumbles out of the woods claiming someone is trying to kill her, who does he believe?
I read and reviewed this advanced complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley
Cabin 1 is the first book in Amanda McKinney’s Steele Shadow Security series and left me with mixed views on the story’s progression. Brothers who seem to do nothing but fight (OK, so that’s not necessarily out of the realm of believability), but a bad guy who manages to circumnavigate cameras and alarms to enact his dastardly deeds, was a little over the top. I also wasn’t terrible fond of Gage’s character, and Niki was only mildly likeable. Overall, it wasn’t a bad story, but I’m hoping for more from the next brother’s book.
What in the hell did I start reading..Gage was pig..He was disgusting, I mean I read about books and I know that when you are reading a lot of guys thoughts they are not very lets say clean, however this guy yuck. I was trying to continue even though I knew I didn't like him, but then when he meet Niki who was beat the hell up, torn shirt raped or almost raped he is having lewd thoughts, sorry dude couldn't continue with it.
What a start running for your life. Total intrigue, hard ass male attitude coping with the anniversary of his father's death. 3 other brothers, Security firm working unofficially with law enforcement.
Strong female, kicking ass despite being physically battered and bruised. Mentally not bowing down to anyone. Sparks fly that keep you turning the pages and your fingers crossed for a positive ending. Cliff hanger of an ending. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

I enjoyed Cabin 1. It's right up my alley as I like a good suspense story in my romance novels. The violence that has Niki fleeing for her life is intense and complicated. I won't add spoilers but the opening scene is shocking and finds Niki doing something even a prosecuting attorney would never expect.
I like that Niki is strong and stubborn. She's not going to just sit back and let Gage take care of things for her. She's frustrating and pushes Gage's buttons. And that's a lot of what attracts him.
A lot of plot was left unfinished to carry on through the series but there's a lot of set up so the reader wonders what the whole story is.
An interesting read.
I thought that this was a good story that was well written.
The plot had plenty of action and drama and it had me fully engaged and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I thought that the characters were good and well developed and they gelled together really well.
It is 5 stars from me for this one, very highly recommended!
I really really enjoyed this one! Romantic Suspense can really be hit or miss for me - but I think this one had just the right balance of tension and romance. It also had the added role of starting off a series - but I didn't think the character introductions took away from the story at all.
Gage is recently retired from the military and has come home to work the family security business with his brothers following the death of their father. Since that time, Gage has been drinking and having sex to deal with his grief and separation from the military. He definitely has not been handling things in a healthy way.
Niki is one hell of a tough girl. She has worked hard to raise herself up from a life of poverty into a successful prosecutor. When the book starts out we see Niki fighting her way through an attempted rape and assault - where she ultimately kills one of her attackers. Gage finds her in the aftermath of the attack and takes her into the family compound for protection.
Their relationship proceeds at high speed as does the action in the story. I liked Niki a lot - I admired her strength of character and smarts. I think she made a lot of assumptions about Gage - that weren't necessarily off base - but she did allow him to show her he could be a lot more than those assumptions.
Overall - this was a quick read and a great start to the series.
I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.

I am not a full fledged Amanda McKinney fan! She delivered with this book. I want more. I need more!! The Steele brothers can save me ANY DAY!!!
This was a new to me author and I'm glad I took a chance. This book was very suspenseful all the while keeping the hot turned up to 100%.
Gage was in a tough spot at the beginning of this book. My heart went out for him. He was just trying to deal with his grief the only way he knew how. I felt the most bad for him when his brothers would get on his case. No he wasn't dealing with his grief very healthy but none of them were but he seemed to be the resident punching bag.
I liked when Gage met Niki and she became his focus. While he was interested, he took her safety very seriously. I loved when he took care of her and didn't push her after he found out what had happened. I also liked that he stuck up for her when her brothers were questioning her statement.
Niki is a force to be reckoned with. She had to be strong given the upbringing that she had. I loved how the book portrayed her by showing her fears but not letting them keep her down and fighting back.
I just have to say that ending though......wow!!!
The blurb of this book and the reviews drew me in. I love a book that has suspense with a protective hero. There were parts of this story that were beautifully written. In fact, I was impressed with how the author crafted her sentences and portrayed certain scenes. However, the actual storyline fell short for me. It had great potential but everything happened so fast and certain parts of the story didn't resonate and seemed out of place.
Cabin 1 is the first in the Steele Shadows Security series. Gage, like his brothers, is a heavy drinking, womanising ex-military type. After the death of their father, they now run a private security firm with a fortress-like base hidden away on a mountain. (Although, it's not that hidden, as plenty of people seem to find them easily.) Niki is attacked in the middle of nowhere on her way home from a yoga class. When she stumbles across the Steel Security base when on the run from her attackers, Gage takes responsibility and soon finds that he is drawn to her.
The suspense side of this novel was fairly convoluted and when the person behind it was finally revealed I wasn't all that sure that it made a lot of sense. I'm afraid that the romance part of the book wasn't really that strong either. I couldn't warm to either Gage or Niki and didn't buy the chemistry between them. That's not to say that this was a bad read, it worked fairly well for the most part but just lacked that extra spark to push it towards being a great read.
I'd be interested to read more in the series to see if they get better as they go along, but I won't be in a huge rush.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
A big thank you to NetGalley and HH Tisevich for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is my first time reading this author. Wow..what a ride!! Kept me on my toes...wondering. It felt a little rushed towards the end. A lot happened very fast. Ending made me sad. I give this 3.5 stars and I will definitely read the next one. It's got romance and a bit.of a mystery.
I received an advanced reader's copy of Cabin 1 (Steele Shadows Security) by Amanda McKinney from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This was the first book that I have read by Amanda McKinney and I was pleasantly surprised to find an enjoyable new author to follow.
Overall, I enjoyed this novel and I found it to be well written. The primary characters' romantic start was memorable and nicely showcased their chemistry/attraction. I liked the well-crafted characters and the witty banter, plus the action moved along and kept me engrossed.
This story of survival and fighting back intrigues the reader. Niki Avery, a local attorney, is attacked and stumbles upon land of the Steele family. They own a private security firm and offer to protect her from someone clearly out to kill her. The characters are flawed but definitely likeable. Each role has a story that the reader wants to learn. I enjoyed this book immensely and can’t wait to read more.
