Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.
This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.
This book is a page turning. It is a gritty crime thriller set in Dublin.
It is fast moving and so addictive
A great read
Fabulous plot which I could not put down. Brilliant characters, and twists and turns. Highly recommend to other fans of this genre!!
Hmm I am on the fence with this one. Whilst I enjoyed some aspects of the story (female muscle - yay!) there were A LOT of characters all intertwined and it was really difficult to keep track of them all which was very distracting and detracted from my overall enjoyment of the book. Enjoyable twisty tale involving two Irish families (rival gangs in Dublin) at the heart of the story with a very light touch on human trafficking.revenge.
Its was good, not great and I probably wouldn't be rushing out to recommend it so a solid but uninspiring 3 stars from me. Thanks to NetGalley and Arlene Hunt for the ARC in exchange for the honest review.
Highly enjoyable book. It kept me on my toes from the start and had me guessing as to which way the narrative would go. I found myself second guessing who the true villains of the piece really were and was quite surprised by the twists and turns along the way on the journey to discover who the culprits really are. It also goes to prove that no one is ever really squeaky clean or as innocent as they appear.
Arlene Hunt has pulled out a diamond with this book. It was engaging and an enjoyable read, one that is perfect for either sitting alone and enjoying it with peace and quiet, lying on a beach or around a pool somewhere hot and enjoying a top class tale or something to read on a train journey somewhere. You can’t go wrong with it and will find yourself going back to it when the fancy takes you.
I wish to thank Arlene Hunt, Hachette Books Ireland and NetGalley for the copy of No Escape in exchange for an honest review.
This is Dublin’s underbelly; organized crime involving slavery, child exploitation, people trafficking and drug production, a darker side of this beautiful country. The protagonist Leo has returned to Dublin to accept an inheritance, he reconnects with his friend and family, a family with a history of crime. Leo’s brother is accused of killing the leader of another organized crime family, tensions increase, violence erupts as the families interact. The story follows two young sisters, seeking a better life, fleeing abuse and oppression in their own country to be exploited in Ireland.
Arlene Hunt has written an entertaining thriller, tense and captivating, a page turner engaging to the last page. The character development is good; the descriptive writing is crafted with skill and there’s some great humour. This is the first novel I have read by this author, I’ve added her others to my list to read. I’ve read books by several Irish writers recently; I’m looking forward to more. Recommend.
The book was decent if you could get a handle on all the characters and who was related to who or who had a grudge with who or who worked for who. This was a bit distracting at times and took away from the plot of human trafficking, family feuds, strained and ugly relationships. The book ‘s setting is Ireland and we get a glimpse of Dublin and the Irish countryside.
No escape by Ariene Hunt.
For sisters Yulia and Celestine, Ireland was supposed to be a sanctuary, a place where they could escape their violent past. They had no idea what the Ward family had in store for them when they were smuggled into the country.
A great read. Violence and murder. Good characters. Good story. 4*.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this ARC.
I thought this book was enjoyable and a good read. There are quite a few characters in it and it took me a while to get used to them all and how they related to the other characters. When a man who is part of a crime family is shot dead the Police and family members try to find out who was behind the murder. There are quite a few twists and turns in the story, none that wowed me though. It was well written and held my attention from start to finish. 3 stars
Enjoyable twisty tale involving two Irish families, one the old guard mafia the other would like to be. Between the human trafficking and the drugs farm they are teetering on the brink.
Thanks for the review copy of another thrilling read by a very talented author. The book starts off with a bang, and doesn't let the reader go until the very end. Recommended for anyone who loves a good read!

This is a harrowing tale of two sisters who were trafficked into Dublin. It is well written and fast paced. When two high ranking members of the Ward family are shot, it sets off a turf war and tensions quickly escalate putting the lives of young women in danger. A good solid read for crime lovers. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
