Zee is back once again for The Only Living Girl #2. and that means we're in for a whole new set of adventures, as well as a fair amount of danger and risk. The creative team behind this project includes David Gallaher and Steve Ellis, and together they're continuing the tale started in The Only Living Boy.
If you've enjoyed the previous parts of this series (either The Only Living Boy, or Part One of this series) then you're going to love this latest installment. It is just as endearing as ever, full of adventure, wonder, and fantastical worlds.
Zee and her allies are off on a mission to save the people of their city, but in doing so are about to put themselves at significant risk along the way. They're going to face off against the Consortium and Doctor Twice, but that won't be enough to stop this team. Will it?
The Only Living Girl #2 was just as charming and endearing as I dared to hope. I love this series for its imagination and sense of adventure. Okay, I also adore the world that they've created here – there's something so compelling about it.
I really have enjoyed Zee's story, and will continue to do so for as long as they make it available. Mostly because I adore her determination and grit in a world full of such wonders. This issue is no exception, especially considering what she and her allies come up against here.
Once again I should mention that I never actually read The Only Living Boy, but I did read the first issue of this series. I had no trouble following along and overall found the world to be utterly enchanting. Eventually, I will go back and read the rest of the series.
I can say that any young reader out there (or adults, no judgment here) will likely enjoy this, especially if they're a fan of science fiction. The world itself is so full of imagination, it's sure to capture theirs as well.
Another really cute volume in this series, although I still think the length is a bit too short and therefore doesn't really allow the depth of character development that I'd prefer but I think it will be really great for younger readers who maybe have a shorter attention span. Lots of action in this one and a very interesting reveal at the end! I'm thinking I should go back and read the original Only Living Boy series before the next volume of this comes out.
Before sharing my thoughts, I think it's necessary to mention that I was not familiar with the story as much as anyone else could have been because I have not read The Only Living Boy, but that did not influence my read of this issue and I could still follow everything that was happening.
I admit that whilst the first issue was interesting enough for me to pick up this one, it's not until the second one that I started caring for Zee and her crew. I enjoyed how the story evolved and it showed the conflict going on with Zee and the Consortium. . The Consortium was a great villain and I actually found the stakes to add another level to the story, which is probably why I felt more for Zee in this issue
The art is simply impressive and the setting was incredible. I got very curious to see more species shown in the series and learn more about.Erik and Morgan too.
This book was received as an ARC from Papercutz in exchange for an honest review, Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
I absolutely was so intrigued by this book after finishing the first installment that I had high expectations for the second installment and I could not be more satisfied. The story, dialogue and artwork were so breathtakingly genius that it just made me want to read the book all in one sitting and could not put it down. Zee is at it again with another adventure with her friends Eric and Morgan but they quickly realize what is at risk if they fail this quest.....their lives. Especially, when evil Dr. Twice and the Consortium are lurking in the wings to see that they are destroyed but as once again Zee and her friends to prevail and it's a story that none will forget. I know our young adult readers will appreciate this book and the artwork displayed in the book as well.
We will consider adding this title to our JGraphic Novels collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
ARC Copy...I admit I was little nervous and reluctant going in for the review because I have only read the first volume of "Only Living Boy" however I was please to find this volume has the same (more world diving depth details) world building and lush cultures and species I found in the previous volume I have and it ends on a cliff hanger shot of a familiar looking character...not telling!
