This is a LONG ending of a beloved series. Honestly, so much happened in this book that it was extremely difficult to keep track of where we were and what was going on. However, I still loved this adventure and I am sad that it is over.
Highly recommend picking up this series
I’m always looking for fun YA books to recommend to my friends with teens and Julie’s books are always on the top. The way she writes fantasy always keeps me interested and turning the pages.
Japanese mythical storytelling mixed with epic fantasy to create a series you can’t wait to finish. I loved this series and was so glad to review the ARC provided by NetGalley. I really wasn’t ready for this series to end, I loved the story arc and the character development was fantastic.
I procrastinated reading the ending to this amazing fantasy trilogy full of Japanese lore, adventure, found family, and soulmates. To say this was an amazing end would be an understatement! I was on the edge of my seat, gasping and proclaiming at a multitude of occurances, for over half the book. Unable to put it down, I write this having just finished the very last words and with tears in my eyes. This book has incredible world building, character arcs, use of Japanese lore, and plot. I give this all the stars, and will forever reread this trilogy.
Sad to see this series come to an end. This final installment was exactly what this series needed. The ending was great (be prepared to cry). The plot is fast paced and engaging. The world building is amazing, as it has been for this entire series. Can't wait to see what this author has planned for future books.
This was a great finale to a wonderful series. I really enjoyed the Japanese folklore in this series and would like to read more of this authors work in the future.
I really enjoyed this trilogy, and this was a satisfying conclusion. The action and adventure that I enjoyed so much in the first book were again found in this third title. (I do think the second book was the weakest of the series.)
This is by far the best series I have read by Julie Kagawa and I really enjoy recommending this to my YA customers who love D&D type games.
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the review copy, all opinions are my own.
Thank you so much for allowing me to read and review your titles.
I do appreciate it and continue to review books that I get the chance to read.
Thanks again!
Great ending for a fabulous romp of an adventure series. I loved the world-building and samurai lore in this book. I grew to be very fond of the diverse band of heroes fighting to save the empire and will miss catching up with them with each book installment. Snarky humor, a bit of romance and lots of action made this series lot of fun to return to.
A stunning conclusion to a fantastically written series based on Japanese lore and legend! I couldn’t have imagined a better way to end this adventure. 5 stars from beginning to end!
A great conclusion to the Shadow of the Fox trilogy! I've heard so many people say that this series would be an amazing anime series, and I absolutely agree! The characters are multi-faceted and complex, the world is rich with mythological detail, and the entire series is action-packed. I highly recommend this series to fans of anime or fantasy in general. 3.5/5 stars
Thank you so much to Netgalley and to the publisher for providing me with this e-Arc. I am very grateful! Will definitely read more from this author in the near future.
Night of the Dragon is the climax of the Shadow of the Fox trilogy. Will Yumeko and her band of powerful and diverse friends be able to stop the dragon wish for being used for ill? They are on the last leg of their journey, but endgame is drenched in demons and dark powers; who will be left standing?
I am not normally a great lover of young adult books, but Julie Kagawa has completely captivated me with this YA fantasy trilogy. This is the final book in the trilogy and I was desperate to see what was going to happen. Would Yumeko, Tatsumi et al manage to stop the evil Genno. And, more importantly (to me, not the overall plot!) would Yumeko and Tatsumi’s romance blossom further? All my questions were answered in this book.
I have really enjoyed the fast pace of this adventure story. It’s packed with fascinating and terrifying spirits and monsters pulled from Japanese lore. Usually more western folklore is used in the books I have read, so this was a really unique and interesting read for me.
But, I am a character driven reader. I will tolerate and even enjoy a predictable plot and poor pacing, as long as the characters speak to me. And so, what I liked about this book, this trilogy, was the friendships, camaraderie and romance within our eclectic group of heroes. It’s been a joy to tag along with them. Although, I would also like to say the plot in this was also excellent and the pacing was spot on!
I always think that ending a series must be a difficult endeavour. And, ending a series well, with all loose ends tied up and with a satisfying ring of finality to it, yet leaving readers still eager for more must be even harder. I think Kagawa did a good job with ending this trilogy. I am not going to give away any spoilers, but it was poignant and bitter sweet, but nevertheless ends on a chime of hope. I would have gladly read more, but also feel like it ended on a high.
This was a fantastic trilogy with a unique and fascinating setting, an engaging story and characters I loved. If you’re looking for a YA fantasy to read then you won’t go wrong picking this one up.
Thank you Netgalley for letting me read this book
Julie Kagawa is one of my favorite authors so I was so excited to read this. And let me just say. I was not disappointed
I absolutely adored this whole series. It is easily in my top favorites as it contained a world that pulled me in, characters that had me rooting for them, and sweet moments in between the action.
This story made my heart ache for the characters and the ending gave me a bittersweet feeling that I totally support
(Spoiler)
My only wish is that there was an epilogue giving more information on Tatsumi and Yumeko’s new life and if Yumeko found her friends
I’m so glad I got to read this series as it is one I’ve followed since Shadow of the Fox
I would definitely recommend it to others!
Absolutely adored this series. It was hard to keep turning pages knowing I was almost at the end. Do yourself a favor and start the series now!
I am sad to see this wonderful trilogy end. Not only did it tell a fantastic tale of good vs evil based in Japanese folklore, but it made me CARE about all of the characters. Closing this book was like saying goodbye to those to whom I have personally journeyed, lost, and overcome so much with.
The breadth and depth of the entire trilogy's plot was engaging and intriguing from page one of "Shadow of the Fox" to the last page of "Night of the Dragon". Waiting for each volume after was torture. I truly hope that Julie Kagawa is planning to write more based in Asian culture - she is brilliant at it. And while some may dislike some of the more tragic elements, I found it more touching and profound to see Yumeko persevere despite such heartache and strife. I wish there had been a bit more written about Kage Tatsumi and his struggles, but that may be because I'm biased and always love more about him.
I highly recommend this book for fans of other books by Julie Kagawa; as well as those who enjoy books by Kat Cho and Elizabeth Lim.
*I received an advance review copy for free from NetGalley and the publisher, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.*
Guh...my heart...my heart y'all. What a bittersweet, depressing, and WONDERFUL series. The only thing that could have made this better is if Yumeko was just what she was presented to be for the majority of the journey. But I'm going to ignore that cause my heart has been pulled from my chest. Absolutely incredible story!
I don't know what to tell you. This book is a wonderful infusion of Japanese legend and lore, right down to glowing souls, reincarnation, yokei feels, and those gut wrenching endings that somehow still make you horribly sad at wanting to cry yet softly happy and hopeful.
This particular book is full of action...and sadness...and hope. Absolutely wonderful ending to the trilogy. Thank you Julie Kagawa for writing this series!
But as glad as I am to know it has a definite end, part of me wanted to procrastinate forever just to draw this story out after I got it. This is definitely one of those books I am going to mourn completing because it was just that good. Book love, it's a real thing.
Be warned, this book has the power to consume you if you're not careful. Now I have to go find a way to keep going with my broken book love heart. Sigh. #noregrets
this was a great finale that when it ended I wanted more in this universe. The characters were great and I really enjoyed the writing style.
Night of the Dragon is the third and final book in the Shadow of the Fox trilogy.
I had not realized this was a 3rd book when I requested it, and therefore cannot yet give an honest review. Will update when I have time to read the first two books in this series.
Man, I just really enjoyed this book! It's the end of a trilogy that I've really enjoyed, and boy, did it go off with a bang! So much happens in this book, so many reveals, and it was just so epic, and of course it was fantastic to read about these characters more!
This book brought everything to a conclusion. Like the whole thing with Seigetsu, as well as things that we didn't know that we needed. Like the relationship between Daisuke and Okame, which was just so fulfilling!
I just loved reading about this cast of characters, they're a found family, and they are so great to read about, their interactions, their loyalty to one another. They got through a heck of a lot in this book, and it's heartbreaking, but I just couldn't put it down!
That ending, oh man, was it heartbreaking. I mean, it was a victory, but I felt so heartsick for Yumeko. But that epilogue, man, it was sweet, and it was just the right note to end this book, I just loved it!
I loved reading this book, and I can't wait to read more by Julie Kagawa! Especially since we're getting Puck's book/series next!
