While the story was a bit predictable, I didn't even care. I loved the characters and the artwork so much. I'm sure this will be well loved at the library and I will be recommending this title to graphic novel and super hero fans.
13 year olds Sloan and Piper couldn’t be more different. Sloan is genius level smart, independent, and helping her evil grandfather in order to help her sick mom. Piper is super strong, fiesta, and has a loving abuela. When they end up switching bodies, they find out maybe the have more in common than they think. Full of adventure, friendship, and family, this graphic novel has it all, including Batman!
What a great graphic novel! Strong but imperfect characters take us on a journey about learning to walk in another's shoes. Kids will love this one!
Very clever new DC superhero comic for middle grade readers. I really think my middle school readers will enjoy this identity swapping story and relate to both heroines. Fun, entertaining plot with room to grow.
What a fun graphic novel! Piper is super strong and Sloane is super smart, but when the girls switch bodies, they each have a lot to learn about what really makes a hero. I loved the friendship storyline in this novel, as well as the relationships between the girls and their families. Hand this delightful book to middle-grade readers who've enjoyed sci-fi friendship stories like "Sanity & Tallulah" or "Sal and Gabi Break the Universe."
This is such a cute book! It is super hero, friendship and teamwork all rolled up into one. I think kids will love it!!
Piper and Sloane both have alter egos. Sloane is super smart and is using that ability to steal things to help out her mom and their home situation. Piper is super strong and wants to be a superhero but she sometimes makes a mess of things. Soon after meeting a new device makes them actually switch bodies. Can they figure out how to repair the device, keep their secrets safe, and maybe become friends?
I am not always a graphic novel fan but I did like this one.
This title introduces two teen girls with superpowers--one a thief with a big heart and one a hero who keeps accidentally destroying things--who inadvertently team up after accidentally body swapping on a mission. What follows is a fun story about surprising friendships and what it truly takes to be a hero, all without being trite or sappy. The narrative has just the right balance of superhero drama and a day in the life of teenagers. Both heroines are well-developed and likable. As with most DC/Marvel comics, the larger world of Gotham City in which the story is set is a little confusing for newcomers but doesn't detract too much. This one works as a standalone but hopefully is the first of many. An excellent addition to any library's graphics collection: lighthearted and featuring strong female leads. Good for fans of Erica Henderson and Ryan North's "The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl" adaptations. A tween read but will appeal to teens to. 11 to 16.
I found out about Anti/Hero at the recent School Library Journal "Middle Grade Magic" conference. Anti/Hero sounded super intriguing so I was super excited to get an ARC copy via Netgalley.
I loved the interplay between the two characters and it was a really well done graphic novel. I'd love if it became a series - I want to know more about Piper and Sloane!
This was a very cute story about finding your own strengths. Twelve year olds Piper and Sloane are opposite. Piper is a superhero in training, with super human strength and Sloane is a super villain in training with a super human brain. After a freak accident causes them to switch bodies, the two girls have a lot to learn about themselves and what makes them each a hero. I loved the two main characters as well as the colorful artwork. The story ends with a few more loose ends than I would like, but it is a perfect story about friendship and heroes. I hope there are more stories featuring these two characters. I very much enjoyed this book and will be recommending it to my comic fans.
Even though Piper Parajo and Sloane MacBrute go to the same school in East Gotham they could not be more different. For one thing, Piper is a *secretly* aspiring superhero, a star athlete, popular, peppy - basically everything that Sloane is not. Sloane is a super-genius loner who occasionally does some villainous things -- but only to help her mom make ends meet. One night the two cross paths and a freak accident makes them switch bodies and forcing them to work together to save the day.
I've said it before, I'll say it again - DC is KILLING it with the MG graphic novels. Part superhero, part middle grade bildungsroman, part Freaky Friday - this book seamlessly fits into the DC Universe while introducing two new heroes and a new crime family. Watching Sloane and Piper become friends is so rewarding and I loved the insane amounts of girl power in this one.
5 stars. Super fun and cute! A friendship story with a cool body-swapping/superhero twist:)
Thanks to Netgalley for providing this EARC.
