This was a great book that I had a great time reading. The characters were well drawn, and the storyline flowed seamlessly. Would like to read more books by this author

This is written so well as it moves through the death and lack of information to logical conclusion. A lot of red herrings but these characters are not stupid thank God!
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for this arc

The Secrets of Bones is book two in the Jazz Ramsey series. Though Jazz moonlights as a cadaver (or HRD) dog trainer and a dog is featured prominently on the cover, this book isn't really about the dog (unlike the K-9 mysteries by Paula Munier, Margaret Mizushima, and Susan Furlong). Jazz and Wally, her HRD dog in training, are last minute substitutes on career day at the Catholic girls school where Jazz works, and of course they uncover some remains! Jazz is a change of pace as a protagonist, neither embittered nor on a mission, and I enjoyed reading about her exploits. I was able to figure out the key to mystery a few chapters from the end, so there aren't any big surprises in store, but it is an enjoyable read. Though it was the second in a series, I had no difficulty getting into the story. I plan to pick up the first book, and don't think there will be any letdown in reading the books out of order.

I came for the dogs and Cleveland but stayed for due diligence in an unusual whodunit.
Jasmine (Jazz) is an administrative assistant in a religious girls school in Cleveland and in her off hours she trains scent dogs to find human remains. During career day her experienced dog locates the remains of a teacher who was thought to have resigned without leaving a trace. The detective on the case is unimaginative and her former boyfriend, also detective, is disinclined to investigate. But Jazz knew the woman and applies due diligence through all the misdirections and red herrings. Good plot development and engaging characters. Loved it!
I requested and received a free ebook copy from St Martin's Press/Minotaur Books via NetGalley. Thank you!

Two excellent Nonfiction books about cadaver dogs are: No Stone Unturned by Steve Jackson, and What The Dog Knows by Cat Warren.

When is the murder victim not the murder victim? Great mystery featuring Jazz Ramsey and friends. During career day a body is discovered by the search dog brought in by the handler. Jazz can’t help but involve herself in the solving of the case.

Recently I was introduced to the work of cadaver dogs through The Finders by Jeffrey B. Burton and I’ll be honest – that book got me totally intrigued about how these dogs are being used to solve crimes. So, when I saw The Secrets Of Bones, the 2nd book in a new mystery series by Kylie Logan, I could not resist the urge to bump this to the top of my fiction-reading list.

I’m so glad I did!

The Secrets Of Bones gives us a glimpse into the life of Jazz Ramsey – an administrative assistant who works in an all-girls Catholic high school by day and trains cadaver dogs by night. When Jazz is asked to fill in for a missing speaker on career day, she brings a retired cadaver dog and her new puppy to the school to give a demonstration. Little does she know that her star dog is about to give the girls a demonstration they will never forget!

When a skeleton is discovered during the demo and the victim’s identity is revealed, shockwaves run throughout the community – and they keep growing stronger as one suspect after another keeps turning up!

Although Jazz isn’t supposed to be involved in investigating the case (she’s an administrative assistant after all, not a detective), she just can’t keep from snooping around… and where Jazz pokes her nose, trouble is sure to follow her!

The Secrets Of Bones was an enjoyable story to read, with a strong and likeable cast of main characters and an equally numerous cast of villains to dislike along the way.

As for the plot, there were a few things I suspected along the way on as well as some surprising twists that I did not see coming at all.

What I would have liked to have seen more of in this story were the dogs.

I read through this book quickly as I did not want to put it down and I liked it enough that I purchased Book 1 in the series, The Scent Of Murder, so that I could read more about Jazz’s adventures!

I look forward to reading the next book in this series as well.

I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars.

I enjoyed this book. I liked the characters they feel real and I really liked the dog Wally, he so cute. The setting felt very real. I liked that the school had a career day with such high powered women and included a human-remain dog demo in it. The mystery is very interesting. I never suspected the ending. #The Secrets of Bones #NetGalley

The Secrets if Bones, by Kylie Logan, is the 2nd book of the Jazz Ramsey series, and was an enjoyable read. Jazz Ramsey, a trainer of cadaver dogs, is called in at the last minute to give a career day presentation to the students at St. Catherine's, the all-girls school that she (also) works at, on cadaver dog training. As she leads the first group through her demonstration, the dogs signal a cadaver discovery in a location within the school that Jazz had not hidden any objects. Upon opening the door to the never-used room, Jazz discovers the skeletal remains of what appears to be a teacher, Bernadette Quinn, who has suddenly resigned during the holiday break several years earlier. Bernadette, who was described by her co-workers as a good teacher in the classroom, but who pushed her own agenda and had many enemies, appears to have quite a few people with a motive to want her dead, including the principal of St Catherine's, several of the students, and some parents, and Jazz begins investigating to find out how the remains of Bernadette ended up in an off-limits area of the school.

My one complaint about the book is I felt that it didn't really give a whole lot of information into the training of the cadaver dogs, which is a main part of who Jazz is and a part of the story line, which I was looking forward to, as it just sounded interesting to learn more about. Nonetheless, the story was enjoyable and I'm definitely looking forward to reading the first book in the series, as well as any to follow. Even with being the second in the series, it read just fine as a stand-alone book.

Thank you to Net Galley, and St. Martin's Press and Minotaur Books for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The Secrets of Bones is scheduled to be released on May 5, 2020.

I received an ARC copy of this book from the Publisher via Netgalley and voluntarily leaving my review.

I really enjoy reading this. I was surprise I was approve because in the first book which I'm assuming is going to be a series I was declined.

Jazz works at all girls school where their having a Career day when a skeleton is found by a cadaver dog that Jazz brings in when one of the participants has to cancel.

As Jazz investigate she learns the skeleton belongs to a teacher who work at the girls school who had resign three years earlier. Bernadette was good teacher but she also was bit of a loner she didn't really interact with her co-workers. She didn't really follow the rules some didn't like her. There are numbers of suspects that kept you going.

I like her boyfriend Nick who is a police officer who helps her actually listen to her and don't dismiss her. Especially when I read mystery thrillers that have the Heroine being dismiss by the police.

Thanks to Netgalley for letting me read this book. This is the second book in this series. I did not read the first book. I loved the two dogs in this book. One a retired cadaver dog and one a puppy in training.

I enjoyed this mystery that is the 2nd Jazz Ramsey book. It was a good followup to the first one in the series. I like Jazz more and more as we get to know her better in the books. Nick is also a great character, and I liked the way he was there for Jazz in this one.

The girls' school where Jazz works as an administrative assistant is having a Career Day when a skeleton is found by a trained cadaver dog that Jazz brings in when one of the participants has to cancel. The skeleton is quickly determined to be that of a teacher who taught in the school for a short time before resigning. What follows is an investigation by Jazz that puts her in danger and leads to some surprising truths.

I enjoyed the characters and storyline in this one, but would have liked to see more with Wally, his training, and the cadaver dogs throughout the book. That aspect of the story was pretty much done near the beginning of the story. After enjoying this and the previous book, I'm already looking forward to seeing what comes next for Jazz.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and this is my honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for this clearly written, intriguing mystery plot. 3.5 Stars. From the cover picture and summary, I hoped to learn more about the training and work of police search and cadaver dogs. This was well done at the beginning and led to a well written, believable mystery story, but for the remainder of the book, the dogs were mostly forgotten. The plot was complex, slow-paced, relaxing and easy to follow.

Jazz is an assistant administrator at an all-girls school. I am unsure what that position entails as I have not read the previous book in the series. She seems to have the full trust and cooperation with the school principal. She also trains search and cadaver dogs and seems to have time to act as an amateur sleuth.

The school is holding a Career Day where the girls are exposed to various adult professions. Jazz is training a puppy but since he is not yet fully trained as a cadaver dog she borrows an adult dog for her participation in the event. After hiding two small bones in a seldom-used attic room, she demonstrates the adult dog’s technique. The dog finds the first bone but then leads to a long-locked closet. When this room is unlocked the girls are dismissed. The full skeleton of a woman is found hidden within. The remains are identified from her cross and clothing as that of Bernadette, a teacher who resigned and disappeared three years previously.

Bernadette was considered a good teacher, but strange, withdrawn, and too devout even for this Catholic school. She lectured students against boyfriends and activities she felt non-religious. She led girls in prayers, even for the healthy recovery of sick and almost dead cat she found. She claimed to hear angels talking to her. Some of the girls retaliated by playing tricks on her. Most troubling was her devotion to a younger student, spending time alone with her, although ordered not to do so. Her loving parents complained that she was stalking their daughter outside of school. She was in danger of being transferred from her teaching position or dismissed. Before she disappeared she seemed distraught and to be losing her faith. A letter of resignation arrived shortly after she was last seen.

Jazz becomes obsessed with discovering who killed Bernadette and hid her body in the locked room. She distrusts the competence of the police officer leading the murder investigation, so she decides to solve the mystery on her own. Luckily her boyfriend is also a policeman, and is willing to back her up.

Very few liked Bernadette. She did not follow school rules, was disliked by most students, and refused to socialize with the rest of the staff. Everyone at the school is under suspicion, especially where she threatened a lawsuit against the school if removed from her teaching position. There are the girl's parents who were angry that she was too close to their daughter and following her outside of school. There was also a mysterious man seen at her gravesite, and earlier lurking on school grounds and arguing with Bernadette. Jazz has many suspects to investigate for the murder.

I rarely guess twists and revelations that unravel the mystery, but the conclusion was obvious to me and credible. Well done!
