Unfortunately I had to dnf this book as I didn't get along with the writing style and wasn't invested in the plot or characters.
Melanie and Tennyson were best friends forever but one marriage changed everything. One secret that was revealed at Mel's wedding shattered their friendship and broke Mel's family forever.
After 20 years Mel's daughter and Tenny's son have fallen in love and now they want to get married. But will they tolerate each other for their children sake or the past is too troublesome to forget? Will one marriage rekindle their friendship?
Review-
This book is a perfect combination of humor and emotions. It is not only about friendship but also about love, marriage, infidelity, regrets, heartbreak, insecurity, cake war, club fights and ofcourse some over the top motherhood drama.
The book captures the infidelity point in a perfect sense. It is not just about cheating but also the will to cheat that matters. I won't say more on this because then I will be giving spoilers but this point is just bang on in today's generation marriage.
Author could have easily included a ton of characters and make it a chaotic humor but surprisingly she didn't do that. And I am really glad for that because then it just focuses on the main characters and does not include too many subplots too.
This book definitely tickles your funny bones and at the same time represents a lot about today's love and marriage concept. I became a huge fan of the author's writing because she explains even the most complicated emotions in a very easy manner.
I like the plot, the writing, characters and it is so emotionally connected and relateable to current relationship scenario. This book will definitely stay with you for a long time.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with the ARC of "The Wedding War".
Based on the synopsis, I was really looking forward to an entertaining romantic read.
Unfortunately, that's not what I read. "The Wedding War" was filled with over the top descriptions, almost too much verbiage for the book to be of interest. The characters didn't help the story; they were cruel, unlikable and had very little redeeming qualities. About for as a romantic comedy... there was little to no true romance or laughter. I'm truly a bit out of my comfort zone with this book as it's hard for me to simply just straight dislike a book.
I hate to give someone's work such a low review, but sometimes, a book just doesn't work for me at all. And this was one of them.
I'm not totally sure why wedding themed books and movies are some of the best vehicles to tell great stories, but they are. An author has to be able to juggle a million moving parts, from the two families and their iddividual dramas, to the story of the bride and groom to make sure readers are invested to the actual wedding details, Talley does an amazing job of threading the important pieces of her plot with the rest of the wedding story framework.
As I was reading, I felt like this story is most easily compared to Bride Wars but one generation removed. It is easy to see how two friends could have a falling out that causes them not to talk for years, we've all been there, and it was so fun to watch them forced back together. This book is a perfect book club read and a must-read for the recently engaged in your life as a nice perspctive cause it could always be worse,
This book is about two women- Melly and Teeny, who were childhood friends who had an extreme falling out over a situation at Melly's wedding. Years later, once they find out their children are getting married, they struggle to work out their relationship without causing any drama and ruining the wedding. The two constantly clash and secrets are revealed along the way, while other, unexpected problems arise. This is a story about the importance of friendship, navigating life at a later age, transition and who is really there for you when it comes down to it. I did like this book! It was a bit hard to get into as I found the characters unrelatable, Teeny came off as very selfish and Melly was snobby and a complainer. However, I stuck with it because I loved the general story line and it did get so much better. I came to understand that the characters came off this way until we got to know them deeper, this was also how they came off to each other until a series of events and revelations forced them to better understand each other. As the secrets were revealed and the story became more complex, the characters became more likeable and I found myself rooting for them and their relationships! This story has many funny and very sweet moments, I loved the realizations the characters came to while working on their relationship with each other. I did find there were some unnecessary details throughout, it seemed to generally teeter between drama, funny, happy and very sad, however, there was a good balance in the end.
Unfortunately, I couldn't continue this book .....
After finishing 50 pages, I couldn't connect with the story nor characters ...
But the writing style was good.
Judging from the synopsis, I was expecting a fun and witty romantic comedy. What I got was an angsty, over the top book with unlikable characters. The book started off strong but lost me around the halfway point. It’s very heavily worded and the dialogue is just bad. This could use a strong editing as many of the descriptions are over the top and eye roll worthy. Thank you to the publisher for the advance reader in exchange for my honest review.
I feel bad, I don't like to do negative reviews, this book however, did not deliver personally for me. I was sadly disappointed with the story line, it could have been written so much better instead of two women being petty with each other and not being the grown women they should have been.
I expected some funny shenanigans between the two, the cake fight was about it. I didn't see the humor in the story at all. For me personally, it just didn't live up to what I expected when seeing the blurb.
This book is more of a woman fiction than contemporary romance that focuses on female friendship and forgiveness. Two childhood friends, Melanie and Tennyson had a falling out when they were in their early 20's. Not just did Melanie married Tennyson's ex-boyfriend Kit, but Tennyson revealed some family secrets to hurt Melanie at her wedding. Since then they haven't spoken. Now some twenty years later they become family, as their kids are getting married. Old wounds resurface while they are planning the wedding. What really went down and how will that affect their kids? Can they forgive each other and move on?
There is also the fact that Melanie is fighting for her marriage. While Tennyson is starting to date after her third divorce.
It is a lot of subjects that this book has going on.
I loved the topic of friendship between these two women and them having to work through it for the sake of their children. I am someone who values female friendship a lot. Having a close friend is priceless.
This is a book that definitely makes a reader reflect on their own life and how many do we cover up our emotions, not putting ourselves as a priority or use the money for appearances.
I think that the author did a good job of writing both of them and that the reader wouldn't be swayed on either side. There is also some topics that may be triggering for some; suicide, grief, death of the loved one.
Overall, it is an okay read.
There were some issues that prevent me from giving it a perfect score.
Thank NetGalley & publisher for the copy of the book in exchange for an honest review!
Weddings can be so stressful to plan, but when the mother or the bride and the mother of the groom, once were BFF’s from their childhood until they went off to college, and at one of their weddings, a big secret was outed and their friendship cease to be… Let’s just say that these two former friends have to get their act together for the sake of their children and get a wedding planned in just a few short months.
This book was not what I had thought it would be, but I did enjoy it. The characters were well written and there were some funny moments, as well as some powerful emotions through the book. Of the two main characters’ don’t know who I liked the best. One has an over the top personality that made you like her, but had the same time you wanted to give her a kick in the butt and tell her to get her act together, but at the same time you like her spunk. The other main character was too controlled and again it made it hard to like her sometime, but as she looked inside herself, she was actually quite likable.
Liz Talley always give her readers character’s with great personalities, and makes they real as her readers can relate to them and you might just want to be their friends.
Thank you Liz Talley and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read this wonderful, powerful and emotionally book about the friendship’s we lose along the way, but find again at another time in our lives. For me this was a 5 Star read.
The first I am reading a book by those author and it didn’t disappoint! It’s a novel whicj shouldn’t be taken too seriously and it’s was quick read! Love the funny bits through the book too
This was my second book I've read of Liz Talley and boy oh boy does she have a wonderful way with her words. I finished this book with such good feeling in my heart when I was done and I wanted more!
This is a book that should definitely be made into a movie .. words straight from the pages to the big screen and don't change a word! Witty, funny, romance, heartbreak, friendships, forgiveness, loss, second chances are just some of the words I would use to describe this book.
What I loved so much about this book is yes you can call it a rom-com book ... but the fact that the focus on was the love and friendship of two best friends made this book a 4 star for me. I would recommend for you to run out and read this for yourself, the next book club or just more importantly you NEED TO READ THIS BOOK. Everyone should have a Teeny or Melly in their life because we all deserve someone to give you a place to land and give you wings!
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I wanted to read this book because the cover first appealed to me, and then the description.
I started the book and liked how it switched from past to present. It started off great - then it lost me a bit. The characters were very mean, rude, obnoxious. Some of the writing was very weak and there were definitely racist stereotypes in some of the descriptions.
I almost gave up - but I stuck it out and the ending got better.
Not an awful read - but I've read better.
Pros: I liked the cover design it's what drew me to the book. The synopsis was good sounded like a witty rom-com book.
Cons: way to many to actually write up only reason i finished the book was one of my reading goals was to not DNF any books in 2020. The characters were just mean, vapid and awful humans who i wouldn't want to even be around in real life let alone read about. The ending was anti climatic. The love interests were truly terrible. I am sorry this book was far from comedic, romantic or enjoyable. Maybe another person will like it but it personally wasn't my style.
Teeny and Melli lifelong friends complete with an emergency code have gone their separate ways. They have lives that are complete and fulfilled or are they? This is the question that plays throughout this story of repressed anger and surpressed emotions that go from simmer to boil as they reunite to unite their children who have announced plans to marry. Included in this tale is a husband apparently too good looking for his own good. Christopher or Kit was first with Tenneyson(Teeny) but married Melanie(Melly) who always doubted his choice in her ,a fact that has colored their marriage. The typical marriage celebration open old wounds and happily a bit of humor to this story. The revelations push these two friends to confront real issues in their lives and resolve to move in a more honest direction. Happy reading
The Wedding War by Liz Talley a conflicting four-star read. This is certainly going to e a novel that will divide opinion as some will love it, but some won’t enjoy it as the writing is very good and passionate, but the characters aren’t always what you want them to be. I think this is going to e one of those stories where if you have always had great friends then you will likely enjoy it, but if you have ever had a friend betray you then this will just rile those wounds, and it may not be the one for you.
I absolutely loved this story and didn't want it to end! Perfect balance between romance and some laugh at loud drama! Thank you NetGalley for my copy!
The Wedding War is an enjoyable read, one that shouldn't be taken too seriously. I love a book that's just plain fun and easy going and I feel like this is exactly that. The fighting and cattiness was a little overwhelming but as a whole I really enjoyed the book.
I didn't have any expectations going into this book, and as a resulted I think I enjoyed it more than if I had. The "wedding war" is hilarious and I couldn't get enough of the antics! Such a fun and quick read!
Melanie and Tennyson aka Melly and Teeny are the absolute best of friends growing up. Then a betrayal and a secret exposed destroys their friendship. Now, years later, the two ex-friends are forced to put up with each other when their Teeny's son proposes to Melly's daughter.
I enjoyed the book as a quick, fun read. A lot of it was a bit contrived, but it's perfect if you're wanting a fun beach-read type story. I actually wanted to know about the other characters in the book (Anne, Hillary, Joseph, Emma, and Andrew), I wanted to know more about them. I also would have liked to see how the "big secret" that was revealed affected the families over the years. I guess I just wanted a little more depth. It was a nice, light, fun read though!
Thank you to #Netgalley and #MontlakeRomance for the ARC of this book!
