Beautiful photography, vivid and engaging. It is easy for a variety of ages to follow along with and opens a lot of opportunities for discussion.
The rhyming words and beautiful photography of Big Whales, Small World invite children and their favorite adults into the lives of some of the world's most mysterious and beautiful animals. A book that will delight, engage, and educate the youngest child, this book is worth the purchase.
This is fantastic, my children loved it and so too did my students. Its and attractive book and very informative. It appeals to a large span of age groups. I'd highly recommend for personal and educational reading.
I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. This is a really cute and short book with great pictures of whales.
The photographs in this book are absolutely beautiful! The images will grab the attention of anyone reading this book.
I liked that each page had a simple fact about each whale, I even learned a new fact and I am 41. I think this book would be great even as kids get older because as the parent you could ask them what else the child knows about the whale on that page.

This was enjoyable. I always love stories that give you more information on things. Here we get information on different types of whales. Who doesn't love whales?!
The illustration was really great as well.
This is a beautiful little board book. Stunning photographs are paired with simple rhyming text to introduce young readers to a variety of whales from all over the world. There are the more familiar orcas and humpbacks, but also some species you might never have heard of before, such as bowheads and beaked whales. The book ends with a note about whales going to sleep, so it might be a nice title to wind down with at bedtime.
Overall, this is a strong non-fiction board book for toddlers. I definitely recommend it.
This is another book that does a lot with few words. While we read the electronic version, I believe this is intended to be a board book. I think this is a book my crew will age of out quickly, but right now, it’s a huge hit.
Each spread is a picture of a different kind of whale, with a short sentence identifying the species and something that makes them distinctive. For an infant or toddler read aloud, this book would be amazing. Right now I have a very whale crazy kid, and two kids in the process of learning to read. We’ve spent several hours with this book because they’re actually motivated to sound out the words, and it’s just simple enough for them to make it through each species’ text and feel like they achieved something.I also think that having the pictures be real photos enhanced the story. It makes it feel almost like a mini-field guide for them.
This is definitely a book I can see gifting friends with younger kids or even at a baby shower.
What a wonderful children's book! The book provides facts about different types of whales accompanied by stunning pictures. Rhyming is also used, making it extra engaging for children. This book is sure to be a hit for young kids who love nature and sea creatures.
Big Whales, Small World is a graphic book about whales. There are astonishing photographs in the book. Suitable for small children as it includes only simple facts about whales. I liked it!
This book is perfect for anyone who loves sea creatures. It tells a fact about every kind of whale! It will be a great teaching book.
As a big fan of whales, I absolutely love this book. The photos are absolutely stunning and I really enjoyed the facts about the different kinds of whales.
The pictures are stunning. A beautiful board book for little ones filled with interesting information.
A beautiful picture book for small children. I'd say it would be perfect for kids about 2 to 3 years old. It has wonderful photo's with a small text accompanying every whale. I can imagine reading it with a small kid and wondering over the world underwater which is greatly unknown to most kids. Great one to spark some attention to underwater life!
This is a simple yet neat picture book of different species of whales. It's nice that it has real life photos and simple text. My 3 year old would even like this, even if just for the pictures.
Very engaging pictures with all that blue and something interesting about each kind of sea creature - vaquita, orca, bow head, beluga and what they like. Wow, 400 years life span of bow head is impressive. Never heard about the beak nosed whale.
Beautiful and informative book for young children! The photographs are so visually capturing, and the facts about the whales are useful, but not too complex for the young reader.
This book is very cute. The girls loved it and we've already read it a few times! The pictures are great!
What I Loved: The full page photos of the different types of whales were beautiful. I loved that they were real photos, not cartoons.
How I Felt: This is a perfect board book for a young child. There are very few words on each page, which will keep a young listener’s attention. Each whale has a sentence providing a fun fact about each whale. I learned a thing or two, so I’m sure a child will be fascinated with the information!
To Read or Not To Read: This book is perfect for preschool age children. I think a kindergarten – first grader would enjoy it as well, just because the photos and information were so fun!
What's This Book About Anyway?
Each page of the board book, Big Whales, Small World features a different type of whale. It includes one interesting fact about each type of whale, which would be a good starting point for a conversation with a child. This is a perfect board book for preschool age children.
I received a copy of this advanced reader’s copy from NetGalley for free. I am leaving my honest review voluntarily.
