This book had several editing needs early into the story: paints instead of pains was the first. Also, I do enjoy a good vampire story but don't enjoy NA/YA stories and this is what I found as I read. Not wanting to bring down the rating for the book online I am opting not to finish the book and review it. (DNF)

this was a really good read, the characters were great and I really enjoyed the plot. I'd be interested in reading more from the author.

Honestly, this was a one star book. I gave it two because, while not at all original, I kind of liked the idea behind it. But I'll be real. It was pretty bad. Not "oh my gawd, this is terrible" bad. More like "oh my gawd, this is completely ridiculous" bad. I laughed so much at just how ridiculous so many things were...and I think my cat was getting annoyed at that because she was on me the whole time. It also could have used a lot more editing. Thankfully this was a very short read. But I also don't remember any of the characters' names except for the best friend.

What might be the biggest problem here was that everything was just thrown into the story with no real rhyme or reason, so practically nothing made sense. Like the author had a thought and had to put it in whether or not it makes sense. Things are said, accepted, and then the characters move on. Some things were also contradicted but it didn't seem to matter. The relationships between the characters could have been good but nothing is really shown between them. And the ending was just the cherry on top of this ridiculous sundae.

Perhaps if this author grows as a writer and were to actually expand this into a full length novel it could possibly be good. But as it is, I won't say it was a waste of time, but it was an hour I'll never get back.

This book sounded incredible, but it was a tad too dramatic for me and reminded me of things that I wrote when I was fourteen. Maybe I would feel differently about this book if I was in a better headspace, but I could not immerse myself in this book. 2.5 out of 5 stars.

I don't care for store on this book..it's rather not the story line I care about. It was unmanageable to something I could relate to.

"looked up at him, confusion clouding my thoughts. It had to be conveyed in my expression because he seemed to understand immediately and beckoned for me to follow.

He took off at an incredible speed, racing faster than a human could see. Most people wouldn’t have been able to see him but since I was no longer human, I could. His movements looked to be normal to me, as if in the blink of my eye he was standing across the warehouse faster than I could snap my fingers."

I have been in a reading slump for what felt like years, and Alive in the Shadows may have been exactly what I needed. At no point during , did I have any real idea about what to expect. At times, the writing was a little clunky and repetitive, but that really didn't take away from the story at all. Jules was one of the more interestingly written characters I've read in a while, so following her (very creepy) journey made for great reading!

This book was just alright. It was a basic vampire romance. I wish different aspects had been fleshed out more, like the origin of the species. It has medium heat level sex scenes that aren't too graphic. I would still recommend for ages 18+. It needs a bit more editing, too. The grammar issues weren't glaring enough to take you out of the story, but still very noticeable.
