Thank you to Netgalley for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Holy moly. I love psychological thrillers and this did EVERYTHING for me. So much suspense and tragedy and above all, HOPE. This book had all of the twists and turns. You all should definitely check this out. It was a wild ride and a nice palate cleanser for all the romance I've been reading.
I love psychological thrillers, especially ones where childhood trauma is coming back to haunt the main character! This one was a very enjoyable read!
This book was such a breath of fresh air. A main character with real and raw flaws, a story line that is unpredictable, and twists and turns that catch you off guard while still being realistic! Would definitely recommend.
This book was amazing. I feel like it got started right from the beginning and never stopped twisting and turning through the whole thing. Something terrible happened back at Kring Camp, but Jamie can't remember what. All she remembers is her brother and her best friend disappeared, and no one has been able to find them. Throughout the whole book, Jamie has flashbacks that show her bits and pieces of that night, but she can't quite get all of the pieces back. Then she gets a call that her mom has been hurt, and she needs to come back home. Just the act of her going back home sets more into motion. More people end up dying and her flashbacks come back faster and faster. As she gets reacquainted with her old friends, the story gets more and more tangled up. Will she ever figure out what happened? As the plot ramps up more and more, it made me keep reading long into the night. I could not put it down until I actually knew what happened. I started having my suspicions, but there were still more twists even to that! Definitely worth the read!
I always ask for an imperfect narrator, so when I finally get a woman who isn't perfect from the get go, I found myself not liking her and not wanting to read about her. So, I stepped back and told myself to get over it. Once I let in Jamie's flaws, I loved this book.
This is a suspense novel built with loads of twists and turns. The psychology alone in this book is worth the read, but I really enjoyed the small town secrets.
I felt like the jealous ex fiancee could have been left out of the book, because he didn't really serve a purpose other than to make the heroine's life even worse. Given what she was going through, I don't think that storyline was useful. Plus, it only served to distract from the parts of the book I wanted to read.
Overall, great mystery and amazing action scenes. Eva MacKenzie wasn't scared to get her hands dirty and that made for great reading!
A claustrophobic thriller that made me binge read the entire story in one day! Which is rare for me after reading so many thrillers.
3 for neutral, unfortunately I could not get into this book, I did try on a few occasions. If able to get into at a later date I’ll update my review, but I ended up not finishing as it was a bit too slow for me.

🚦🚧 MY REVIEW 🚧🚦
The story is told from 7 different Points Of Views with two different timelines 2000 and current.
I really struggled with this one. There is just way too many characters and it starts off very slow. I was just about ready to give up on it when it started to pick up around 42 % into it.
I also felt like the characters could have used a little more developing. But for a debut novel I would have to say that it was pretty good. Once the story takes off it is gripping and intense. With all of that being said the plot was so intriguing it kept me turning the pages. I really think this author is going to be one to look out for. Looking forward to reading her next book .
As always if you like the book you read please take the time to leave a review for the author in places like goodreads & Amazon. It does not have to be long. Just a few sentences saying you liked the book will do. Authors really appreciate every review they get !

Gripping, action packed, and full of suspense. The multiple points of view and timelines make for a fast paced read that is hard to put down. There are cases in the present and past that are full of twists. There were so many things that took me by surprise and had me on the edge of my seat. The relationship between Jamie and Drew is a slow burn balance to all the suspense. I hope to see more by this author who is now on my must read list.
If you like mystery/thriller, unsolved case, and a protagonist with a mysterious past, then Buried In My Past may be the book for you! It tells the story of Jamie Kendal, a polygraph examiner, who returns to her hometown, Cedar Lake, after eighteen years as her mother was hospitalized due to an attack. As she begins to inquire about the attack, her mysterious past which caused her memory loss and the disappearance of her twin brother, Trevor, begins to unravel too.
I have to say that this book had me guessing till the end and the twists and turns caught me by surprise! The plot is interesting although it is not something new. The story is told from many different POVs with two different timelines (2000 and current, and I enjoyed this type of narration. But I do wish that there are more depth in the characters. They are alright, but I still feel that something is lacking in them. Overall, it is a pretty good read. It is fast-paced and can be read in one sitting!

Unexpressed emotions will never die. They are buried alive and will come forth later in uglier ways. - Sigmund Freud
Jamie Kendal is a polygraph examiner working with three other investigators in Arlington, Virginia. She deals with criminals in her line of work, some of whom don't like her findings, plus she's being stalked by an ex-fiance who won't take no for an answer.
She is called back to her small hometown when her mother takes a tumble down her stairs. She's been having panic attacks and is drinking too much, trying to cope with her current problems plus the fact she can't remember what happened one summer at camp 18 years ago when her twin brother disappeared.
This was an exciting psychological thriller. I guessed part of the answers of what had happened and was still happening to Jamie but not all.
This was a real page-turner for me and I found myself staying awake longer than planned "to finish one more chapter."
I received this book from Craven Ink Press through Net Galley in the hopes that I would read it and leave an unbiased review.
Electrifying. Strong characters that will linger long after you finish the book. Flows seamlessly. Hard to put down. Happy reading!
"She was weak, a spectator of her own life while she stood by, a captive to fear of an unseen threat."
Jamie nearly lost her life when she was adduced by a child predator. On top of this she found her fiance in bed with her best friend. She kicked him out but he is not accepting the fact that their relationship is over and keeps stalking her. Then she gets a phone call to say her mother fell down some stairs and is badly injured.
She has to go back home. I place that holds very bad memories but also a lot of blanks. What happened to her twin brother on the camping trip when they were kids? Why does she have no recognition of that night? And why are people close to her suddenly being attacked.
A brilliant and gripping book that had me hooked from the beginning to the end with a few twists you don't see coming! Highly recommend.
Thank you to Netgally and Craven Inc press for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Oh my! I absolutely loved this book! Jamie is a polygraph investigator who has flashbacks. Her twin brother disappeared at a camp when they were teenagers and no one knows what happened that night. Are her flashbacks of that night or not? When her mother is hospitalized l, Jamie returns home and the flashbacks are worse. This book had it all, emotions(good and bad), mystery(tons of it). I am really excited to see what the future holds for Jamie, so hoping there will be more books with her in it.
Many thanks to Netgalley and author for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of Buried in My Past by Eva MacKenzie that I read and reviewed.
This book was a book by an author I had never read before and it was really enjoyable. It had a lot going on and a number of characters points that you were reading from so you have to be sure to read the chapter titles to see exactly whose point of view you are reading so you don’t get lost but once you get past that the book has a really great story with some interesting twist and turns.
I am giving this book four out of five stars and look forward to read more from this author.
Jamie has come home to care for her ailing mother. Jamie herself lives a shadow of a life with mental and alcoholic problems. After coming home she is forced to remember the trauma that occurred in her youth, the night her twin brother died. The viewpoints alternated between Jamie and other people as well as in time, Today and the summer of the tragedy. Author does an excellent job building suspense while dropping clues in both timelines. Jamie is a sympathetic character, you can easily understand why she is so messed up. This is an author to watch. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the ARC.
There was a lot going on in this book but I enjoyed it. I feel like the characters could use some further development but it didn't keep me from finishing the book. I would be interested in reading more by this author. I feel it you enjoy a darker mystery/ thriller you'll enjoy this book.
I enjoyed this book. I think it is the authors first book, so I am eager to see how her writing develops over time. I did feel that some of the chapters ended and then it felt like they skipped events and such. Several times I checked to see if I had accidentally swiped past several pages, but I had not. The ending was rather predictable. I think if she had been in such danger it wasn't realistic for her to go out to the literal scene of the crime unprotected. The ending reminded me of the Horror movies where you are yelling at the girl not to go with the person. RUN! But predictable ending aside I did genuinely enjoy this book and it had a fair amount of twists and turns to keep me entertained.
