Unfortunately I just could not connect with this book, unlikeable characters with a bit of a sleazy relationship which made me feel icky!
Definitely not my cup of tea 🙁
4.5 stars! Beware this book has cheating. It is interesting and intriguing. It is a different kind of romance book. I really enjoyed it.
I voluntarily read this ARC for an honest review
All thoughts and opinions are mine
This romance is steamy and full on - if you enjoy that kind of thing -this is for you
I thoroughly enjoyed this - I found it a quick read
Loved the story and the characters
If you like erotica you’ll like this, you’ll find characters you’ll love and maybe even a charity you may not not love at all.......but then again who knows ...... I don’t think it went the direction I thought it would so I was pleasantly surprised in the end
Review of Mistress by R. Katz ( 3 STARS )
ARC received from NetGalley & Publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Opinions expressed are my own & have not been influenced in any way ...
Usually, I stay away from plots where there is cheating involved but thought I would give this book a try ....
The plot in Mistress revolves around the relationship between Kat & Vincent ... Kat agrees to become Vincent's mistress. He is not going to leave his wife due to his young son - but we find out he has taken past lovers / mistresses - always being the one to end these relationships. Kat ( a beautiful & talented professional ) is to smart for this - I'm glad to see she eventually realizes she needs / wants more out of life - deserving someone who is committed to her / their relationship & ends things ...
This book just didn't really work for me ....
This was a steamy erotica novel. I would recommend this if your interested in wild hot sex. I felt like Katherine wanted to walk on the wild side and Vincent, her boss and lover, literally gave her a run for her money. I don’t think Katherine had a lot of chemistry with Vincent and you definitely do not expect where the book takes you... I could see this being a series. I would rate this a three out of five. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This was ARC was provided by Netgalley.
Complementary copy given for honest review and opinion
This book was so intense in parts. I hurt for the main character and the choices she made. It was a good and realistic read.
I would like to thank NetGalley and the author for giving me the chance to read and review this book.
First and foremost this is a good first try in the erotica genre for this author, and I think with good direction and influence she will be a great addition to this bdsm/erotica world.
We were introduced to Katherine who when on an interview at Vincent's' agency, and at fist sight she felt some form of attraction towards him. The relationship between the main character and her boss started off awkward and forced. it's like the author wants to establish an attraction between the two but is hesitant. To me it was uncomfortable on how forced this attraction was, and at time I felt as if I missed something major in the story in regards to the inter-office flirting. The Character mentioned something about heavy office flirting, but that was something that me, the reader, was never shown.
The sex scenes between the two didn't seem to be organic at all, and I wouldn't even call what they did to be bdsm. towards the end of the book the author finally let the reader know that there were sex toys involved, and it left me wondering why did she incorporate that into there sex scenes. I mean that is the whole point of the character having handcuffs and other toys.
Overall this was an okay read, but the story had potential to be so much more.
Good read. New author too me. I could not put this down. I will be reading other books from this author.
This storyline grabs you from the start. You become connected with the main character and fun yourself on a roller coaster. This isn't your typical not meets girl story. The only thing I didn't like was the ending was abrupt. But it didn't take away from the storyline at all.
As the name suggests, our female protagonist finds herself becoming the "other one in the relationship" to a devilishly handsome and older guy. At first, everything is hot and humid but Kat(the protagonist) uncovers sides of the guy(Vincent) that she's not sure are healthy. Let me just start of by saying I really liked it. All opinions stated below are my own and genuine. I would like to thank Netgalley and the author for the review copy.
Let me start of by saying that I loved the heroin because I could totally relate to her. The beginning had Fifty Shades vibes but thankfully it didn't copy any aspects of the other books in its genre. There were no dull moment in it. Since I am a hardcore fan of erotic books, I did feel the scenes weren't that steamy but that's beside the point. Also I didn't know it was a series when I requested the copy, I wasn't ready for the ending hence wise. But other than those two things, I liked it a lot and will definitely be keeping an eye out for the next books.
Mistress isn’t a bad book. I didn’t hate it, didn’t love it. Not too sure if I liked it. I’m literally in limbo.
When Katherine Collins interviews for an executive position with the Nielsen Agency’s CEO, Vincent Juliano, she meets a man who is just as devilishly handsome as he is successful. Katherine soon embarks on a full-blown affair with her new boss, only to find that he holds a dominant, dark side that knows no boundaries.
Let’s start with the positives. Mistress is R. Katz first erotica and I must say she DELIVERED. Those pages were hot. Steaming. Scalding. I wanted more. You guys know I’m greedy. All in all, the premise & the storyline itself had a lot of potential. Even though by the end I could guess where it was going by pulling the threads. I can handle predictability, my issues are with the execution.
First off, I think it moved so fast to the point where some things felt abrupt. Others made me roll my eyes… e.g. she claimed to have fallen for her boss after knowing him for like two weeks ffs!! Some of you might have an issue with the whole affair thing but my morals aren’t that straight. I’m just disappointed that Katz didn’t exploit this aspect of her story. She could have given us brimstone, fire & drama. I didn’t see none of that.
Katz storytelling felt like she was running a 100 metre race. Is this her writing style? Or was she just trying to swiftly move on to a second book? Is Mistress basically a prequel? The ending was abrupt & clearly hinted to Mistress II & I’d definitely read it
A) I’m nosy
B) For closure
C) Katz isn’t a necessarily a bad writer and Mistress isn’t necessarily a bad book.
Katherine is alright, (I didn’t want to slap her even once) but her main squeeze Vincent is nothing to swoon over. No one wants an emotionally unavailable, callous, pure alpha male with zero redeeming qualities. And honestly some of the things he does are rapey. This guy took control, possession & aggression to a whole different level. I have no idea why she likes him. And I have no idea why he likes her either. What is this big connection that allegedly has them drawn to each other like a moth to a flame? Guys it really is a big mystery to me.
If there is a second book all I want for Christmas is more fleshed out characters & a more fleshed out story. Keep those fever inducing pages though… Overrun me with them *innocent smile*
I was not impressed, the characters were very whiney and not developed at all. I thought the author struggled with writing this book. I did read it in one sitting, its pretty fast, enjoyable if you want a quick not intense read.
An ok book but it lack a bit of the usual spice you should get out of this style. I liked the main character Kat, but I felt like sometimes she had backbone and sometimes she didn’t. And the abruptness that it ended over a text message just didn’t sit right. Nice try though, if there is a sequel maybe I’ll read it but I’m not committing.
I wasn’t entirely sure what I was going into when I jumped into this book. I often like going in blind. I’m so glad I did!
I feel I could relate to Kat in many ways throughout this book. Not necessarily geographically or career wise (until the end). But her experiences that she goes through during the book.
The book has some erotica but also a good love story as well in it. It’s different but a good different. I definitely recommend!
A steamy sexy, smoking hot romance book. I loved the characters. Great steamy storyline. I loved the sexy romance scenes. I'm not normally interested in stories about cheating but I found myself loving the fluad characters.
If you found yourself intrigued and in love with the 50 shades series then this novel is bound to please.
With an intriguing novel storyline , it sure offers to please its readers.
Got a couple of chapters into the book before recognizing it as simplistic attempted-erotic trash. Maybe there's a market for this crqp, but surely not on a serious.ly good site like Net Galley.
Unfortunately this was not a good book. Catherine is childish and immature, and Vincent is just a bully. The ending is not convincing, and it really did not work for me.
While this is a bdsm novel, the title is a reference to the fact that Vincent is married. Katherine is well aware of this fact when they embark and their affair and becomes a kept woman. Vincent pays her for her time.
This is not your typical romance, in fact, there is a point in the novel when I feel the sex turns into rape, and this is not for everyone. While this book wasn't what I expected, I was drawn into the story, and I wanted to know how it ended. Unfortunately, I didn't get my ending as it ends on a cliff hanger, but I will definitely be seeking out the next book to find out what happens, I recommend this book to anyone who likes something different.
I received an arc of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
