3.5 stars... I grew up reading Karen Kingsbury novels but haven’t read one in many years, so I was excited for the opportunity to review her latest one. Someone Like You is centered around a young girl, recently graduated from college and engaged, who discovers she was adopted as an embryo. It is a faith-based novel centered on forgiveness, family, and finding love. It made me tear up at times like all of Kingsbury’s novels do. The romance is not entirely realistic and the plot is predictable, similar to a Hallmark movie, but it is also heartwarming in the same sense. I thought the subject of embryo adoption was unique and well-done. Though Maddie is a part of the extended Baxter family, this can be read as a stand alone novel.

Thank you to the publisher via NetGalley for a copy of this book to review.

I love the Baxter series but this did not impress me at all. It hurts to write this review as I do not like writing bad reviews.

I was very interested to learn more about frozen embryo adoption and the way Kingsbury handled it was disappointing. She could have done so much more with it and made it a beautiful topic to ponder and discuss.

The entire story was rushed, way too preachy, and too nicely tied up at every little hiccup. Now I admit I may be jaded in my reading with everything that has personally gone on in my life this year. Hence the reason I am not publishing my review anywhere but here on NetGalley. I just may not believe in fairy tales at the moment and this story felt like one.

Wow, this was an interesting and thought provoking plot. The story was bittersweet and beautifully rendered.
Many thanks to Atria Books and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Karen Kingsbury does it again. She has written a good story that addresses a difficult issue and she has done it with grace and kindness and romance! You know there's gonna be a love story, but it's not too overpowering.

Maddie was adopted as an embryo, but doesn't know this until she's 22. This is not a spoiler, it's on the front cover of the book and talked about within the first couple of pages. But how does she react? How does this make her feel when she does find out? How do you deal with the fact that you were once frozen and then brought to life? Karen looks at this topic and imagines a response and creates a story out of it, a story that ends in healing and hope, but doesn't always look that way as you are reading.

I tried to imagine what it would be like to have your foundations shaken as a young adult and while I can't fully grasp it, I can also understand why it turned Maddie's world upside down.

This was a well-written book that tackled a topic that is not very common and yet it is an option for couples struggling with infertility. The big takeaway for me is to keep the truth forefront--be honest always. Secrets only snowball the longer they are kept.

I received this book from Atria Books via NetGalley and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.

I’ve been a fan of the Baxter Family series since the very first book was published several years ago. I’ve always appreciated the way that Karen Kingsbury has taken difficult topics and addressed them, through situations in her fictional characters’ lives, in a sensitive, Biblical way. This is a compelling story about a topic to which I’ve never given much thought. The challenges of embryo adoption and the impact on the families involved were new to me. As I followed Maddy’s story, I was surprised at one point about the turn it took. But as with all of this author’s books, I was drawn in from the first chapter and was just a little bit teary when I finished.

There’s a strong theme of salvation throughout this book and on witnessing to family and friends about Christ. There’s also a theme of forgiveness, both of forgiving others and forgiving yourself. If this is your first book about the Baxter family, you’ll be able to enjoy it without having read the others. The author includes a good summary/introduction to the family. As always, I’m looking forward to the next book in this series.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

When I first saw the description of the book on NetGalley, I was intrigued by the concept, and also the complications that embryo adoption could present. It is something that may not be apparent to your family and friends, if you didn’t tell them - obviously, the mother was pregnant with a baby living and frowning inside them, so people would definitely not suspect any form of adoption.

I have never read one of Karen Kingsbury’s books before, so I was not aware that this book and the characters would be centered around their Christian faith. It didn’t really detract from the story, but there was a lot of focus on it.

What I liked most about this book was the exploration of family - both family in the traditional sense and also non-traditional families.

What I didn’t like so much was that I didn’t really feel like the relationship between Maddie and Dawson really developed. I don’t think I was really able to “connect” with Maddie. Possibly the very heavy emotional beginning had me connecting with London and her story a bit more...

I would recommend this book for someone interested in Christian books, that are centered around family relationships.

I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Puffy eyes and tear streaked face, it’s all good because a box of tissues is totally worth it!! Sad tears, happy tears, angry tears, surprise tears, it’s all in this book, Someone Like You by Karen Kingsbury. If you haven’t read about the Baxter’s yet, it’s perfectly okay! This is a stand alone story. If you want to get to know this family better, I recommend you start from the beginning with Redemption.

This book takes place in Bloomington, Indiana. Although I’ve never been to Bloomington, Indiana holds a special place in my heart as I lived there for nearly ten years. I love that the Baxter’s live in Indiana! This book also takes place in Portland, Oregon. I’ve been to Portland many years ago and I found it to be a beautiful city and I wish I had more time explore.

Maddie Baxter West graduates from college, gets engaged, finds this random stranger who tells her she’s adopted. This is where it all gets emotional! Maddie tells her parents about this man and what he said expecting them to tell her he just have mistaken her for somebody else. But instead, they confirm that she’s been lied to all her life! What’s a girl to do with herself when she learns such huge news about herself?!

She goes to Portland, Oregon, that’s what she does! She seeks the help of the random stranger and he introduces her to her biological parents and gives her a tour of Portland. Her biological parents had a daughter who had just died from being hit by a truck. It’s devastating! Maddie goes on to learn more about her late sister and compare baby albums and she gets to know this stranger better and he’s just dreamy! But she’s engaged!!

Maddie also learns that her biological mother has kidney failure and her sister was scheduled to give her a kidney before the accident. Her kidneys didn’t make it. Is Maddie a match as well? What will come of Maddie and her new biological family? What will come of this dreamy man who was once a stranger to her?

Someone Like You by Karen Kingsbury should have a warning label that says “WARNING: A box of tissues recommended.” There was only two or three chapters that didn’t make me cry!! Okay, I’ll admit, I’m a hyper-softie!

This ebook was provided complimentary by NetGalley and Atria Books in exchange for an honest review. Published in May 5, 2020, Someone Like You is a splendid story that expands on the Baxter family. I personally give this book five out of five tiaras because of the emotional pull it brought me and that even as parts of the storyline is predictable, there were still a ton it surprises! And I’ve never shed so many tears in one book before! This is definitely worth the read!

This book was a very emotional read. I love how the author always points to God as the answer to all life's problems and how He can turn something that you thought was bad into something good. I had never thought about the impact vitro fertilization would have on a person when they found out. Grab a box of tissue for this book, you're going to need them. Thank you Atria Books via NetGalley for the complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

Karen Kingsbury never disappoints with her books, that is for sure. I love the Baxter family and in this one we get to see more of Maddie. I love how Karen Kingsbury hooked you from the beginning with this story and just kept adding to it the more you got into it. Such a great read and touched on a topic that I did not really know that much about.

Maddie West graduated from college and within minutes gets word that she has obtained her dream job that she has been working so hard for. There is one thing that Maddie's parents have been meaning to tell her her whole life that just hasn't found the right time to come up. Maddie is sort of adopted, but in a different way than a normal adoption. This is something I had never heard of before. Embryo adoption. How will Maddie feel once she finds out? Will she be mad at her parent's for keeping this from her? At this time in her life, Maddie could not be more excited and to add to it, her long-time boyfriend, Connor, proposes to her and now she is engaged and planning a wedding. Everything is going just as Maddie had wanted it to and nothing can change that right?

London is a bright ray of sunshine that helps her mom at their coffee shop, London brew. Louise, London's mom has a medical issue where her kidney's are failing and she is a match for a kidney donation. Louise has tried to talk London out of this many times, but London doesn't want to hear of it. London and Dawson have been long-time friends. Dawson wants there to be more but London keeps telling him that one day he will fall in love with a girl like her that will be more suitable for him. Little does she know how true her statement is.

Dawson and London are pretty much inseparable, but the one thing that hinders their relationship is Dawson's religion. Dawson has tried to approach the subject with London many times in the past but she just has no interest in talking to Dawson about God until one day after they take a hike. London tells Dawson that she wants to get ice cream and talk about her questions she has. Dawson of course is all ears and willing to do anything until the unimaginable happens. Everything changes in a heartbeat.

When Dawson meets Maddie due to these changes in their lives, there is immediate sparks there and Maddie wonders how it can be when she has given her heart to Connor. What is this that she is feeling for Dawson? Maddie just feels lost in life and has so many questions and things to work through and that is where Dawson comes in and helps her work through things. Dawson and Maddie have the same faith and beliefs so that makes it easier for Dawson to help Maddie and point her in the right direction with scripture.

I don't want to tell you the whole story in my review but you have to read this book! I could not put it down when I started and read it in no time because I couldn't stand to not know what was going to happen to Maddie, Connor, London and Dawson. You will not regret picking this one up to read. Such a sweet story!

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book and all opinions are my own. Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for an advanced copy of this book.

Karen Kingsbury is an author I used to read quite frequently when I was younger. I will say that it is teen friendly. This book was easy to read . I did not find it to be very realistic though. I found the characters to be quite fake and the whole idea of being a Christian not even close. We are sinful, hurting, people and I felt like the story was sugar coated with perfection. I would only recommend this book to a teen girl.

I have read Karen Kingsbury books for YEARS! This book had everything I love from a Kingsbury novel! I will say that I went into this totally blind and did not read the description too closely, when London died, I was SHOCKED! I am not afraid to say that I bawled! That is one of the great things about Kingsbury, she does such an amazing job writing that it seems so real and she does a great job of getting the emotions across. I highly recommend this book! One of my favorite Kingsbury's so far!

Someone Like You is a compelling story that will have you questioning what you would do if you found yourself in this situation. This book would be an excellent selection for book clubs. Karen Kingsbury writes another heartwarming story.

For me this was a pretty quick read. It was very interesting. This concept of frozen embryos for adoption. I love the heart behind it. They are babies, lives, just waiting to be developed.

At first I thought Karen was having Dawson move past London’s death too soon, but she saved that and made it more believable. I honestly found the most moving part of the story the beginning, when London passed.

One thing I love about Karen’s book is that she doesn’t shy away from Jesus. He is all over that book and talked about. I love that.

This was a beautiful story!

A copy of this book was given to me through Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

Karen Kingsbury has a way of shattering your heart and then somehow neatly putting the pieces back together by books end. She tackles a vast array of unique situations in her faith based Baxter Family series. This book is no different in that regard as it covers the subject of Embryo Adoption. The Baxter’s are my favorite family and it’s always a pleasure to peek into their lives and catch up. In Someone Like You, Maddie, learns that she is adopted, not the biological child of Brooke and Peter. Not adopted in the usual way, but adopted as an embryo. Unfortunately, Maddie finds out from someone else and feels lied to and betrayed by her family. Dawson has just suffered a tremendous loss in his life and he’s determined to let Maddie know about her biological parents. Is he doing it for the right reasons? A story of love, loss, grief, forgiveness and hope, Kingsbury knows how to tug at our heartstrings and keep us coming back for more of the Baxter family❣️

I have been a Karen Kingsbury fan for years and Someone Like You did not disappoint. This was a story woven in tragedy, hope, love and above all, faith. Maddie West finds out a secret that shakes her entire being and sets out on a journey for answers. Dawson is put into her path to help her find the answers she seeks. This was a quick read that instantly hits you in the heart.

I want to thank NetGalley, the publisher, and author Karen Kingsbury for providing me with an ARC of Someone Like You!

Karen Kingsbury is one of my favorite authors. When I first started to really get into reading, I was stealing my mom's Kingsbury books to read one at a time. I am not a religious person in any way, but for some reason I am drawn to this author's work.

I loved that these characters lived through real life issues; I wasn't able to put this down once I started it. This was definitely an interesting perspective on the topic of in vitro fertilization. This story line brought up a lot of different aspects that I had never really thought of as being impactful before.

This was enlightening and again, I haven't had one disappointment with KK's writing.

Thank you again for the opportunity to read and review this ARC!
