Loved reading the amazing and engaging Christian romance story. After the love of Dawson's life, London, dies, he feels the need to inform Maddie about her biological sister passing away. When Maddie finds out she was adopted as an embryo, she leaves her parents and fiance' and goes to Portland where her biological parents and Dawson live. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written with captivating characters, and an inspirational story line.
I reviewed a copy of the book through NetGalley.
Someone Like You is a very well written book. A great family drama involving secrets. I always enjoy Ms Kingsbury’s books and this one was no exception. I highly recommend it. I received an advance ebook from the publisher and this is my unbiased review.
Wow, I really liked this book. I know a couple who did embryo adoption, So the subject was if great interest to me. I thought the book was we written and the characters were well thought out. I love the Baxter family and look forward to more stories. Thank you Katren Kingsbury for writing this book. Thanks also to netgalley for the complimentary arc of this book. The review is my personal opinion.
A friend introduced me to Karen Kingsbury's books years ago. Her books have often been referred to as "life changing fiction" and I look forward to her new releases. It was an exciting opportunity to be able to read an advanced ebook copy of Someone Like You. While this book is a continuation of the well-loved Baxter family series one does not have to have read the series to enjoy this book. In this story, Maddie West learns she is adopted and leaves home to visit her biological parents. She questions her identity and where she truly belongs, using her faith to help guide her. This book follows the natural progression of most Karen Kingsbury novels which tend to have a comforting predictably to them. I enjoyed this book very much and give it 4/5 stars.
Someone Like You
First, I would like to thank NetGalley for allowing me to preview this book.
I love a good love story. And this one was a good one. Maddie is just not sure what to expect with a secret her parents have kept from her for her entire life comes to light. The story is so beautifully written from the beginning to the end. Maddie has a lot to come to terms to and it helps that she has Dawson and the Lord Jesus both helping her navigate her life as information comes out. The love of family is never just superficial. What an awesome book.
I really love Karen Kingsbury books and this book is no different. It was filled with heart, inspiration, and so much love.
These characters are relatable and the kind of people I wish I knew in real life.
I highly recommend this book to anyone.
Thank you to Netgalley and Karen Kingsbury for my ARC of Someone Like You. This happens to be the 30th novel in the Baxter series. I did not know this when I started but I could easily follow along. Maddie West finds out her parents have kept a secret, that would turn her life upside down. Maddie finds herself looking for answer after meeting Dawson Gage. Who happens to let the secret out. This story was very good. I also did not know it was a Christian novel. I am a Christian so it flowed very well for me. I looked forward to seeing Maddie grow as the story unfolded. I have recommended this book to friends & family. This was a 4 star read for me. Please see my review on Goodreads.
Someone Like You is the next book in the Baxter Family series by Karen Kingsbury. Maddie Baxter West has it all, a great family, just graduated college with her dream job lined up and engagement to her high school when her world is completely flipped by someone she thinks could be a stalker.
I enjoyed reading this story. There is enough realism in the book to make it plausible but as always, it has a pretty predictable ending.
Thank you Net Galley for the opportunity to review this book for my honest opinion.
Someone Like You is a very wholesome book. I've never read the author's other books about the Baxter family, but this novel is a stand alone read. The first part is very sad. London Quinn died after a tragic accident. Her parents had given away three frozen embryos who ended up in pediatric couple Brooke and Peter Baxter. Maddie was the lone embryo who was born. When she discovers the true story she runs to Oregon to meet her birth parents. The story is fairly predictable from there. The plot is entirely plausible with modern science, if not something that would headline in contemporary society.
BOOK REVIEW: Someone Like You (The Baxters #30)
BOOK BY: Karen Kingsbury
Are there really 30 Baxter books now from author Karen Kingsbury?
This latest release follows granddaughter Maddie West, daughter of Brooke and Peter. The book opens on the day of Maddie’s graduation and we see Brooke reminiscing about the past and afraid of how much time has passed keeping a life-changing secret from her eldest daughter.
Across the country we find another family struggling with the recent death of a daughter and best friend. The stories of these two families will collide and no one will ever be the same.
Once again Kingsbury tackles a topic little discussed in the Christian fiction world, embryo adoption. The concept is an interesting one and presents an unusual type of adoption, though the adoptive mother carries the baby herself.
The text is easy to read, but at times the story feels rushed and not fully developed. The Baxter and Flanigan family characters are much the same way I remember them except the grandkids are now grown up and launching into adulthood.
I had a difficult time getting into the story.
The appearance of JAG, another character from the ANGELS WALKING series completely pulled me out of the story. The scene was pretty dramatic and emotional (which was well executed), but then this cameo appearance happened and it made me stop and think about the other series and who/what he was. I also wondered why he was there since the other series hadn’t connected back to the Baxters from my recollection.
Then there was the relationship between Dawson and London – completely unhealthy and I wanted to yell at them both. Dawson really needed to go to counseling and the self-imposed mission was totally uncalled for since London’s family hadn’t asked him to take it on. Understandably, he’s grieving and feels the need to do something for his best friend, but this was crazy.
The death scene was a bit over the top, one of those unbelievable moments that left me shaking my head and thinking it couldn’t really happen, but also the moment Dawson needed to set off in search of Maddie.
There are more places I found myself questioning the logic of the story, though I appreciated the topic. Adoption is a huge deal in the Baxter family so this storyline wasn’t exactly out of left field BUT the reactions and the way it played out didn’t seem true to character for this fictional family.
If a reader hasn’t read any of the other Baxter family books, it’s okay. This is readable on its own.
Unfortunately, this novel didn’t make it into my great reads pile. I’m a fan of Kingsbury’s earlier works, especially the standalone titles. I’m getting Baxter-fatigue and think this could have been a great standalone title WITHOUT the Baxter connection.
I received an ecopy from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions expressed are my own.
I just love the Baxter family! I was sad when the original series ended, but was so excited when Karen Kingsbury started writing these stand alone novels with the Baxter family as characters within the stories. Even if you haven’t met the Baxter family before, you could totally pick this up and be just fine. But don’t forget your tissues! This story was so good!
I have voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this title given to me through NetGalley. This book was just absolutely wonderful. It was just so easy to get lost in and I just couldn’t put it down. I just lost myself within this amazing story. I most definitely will read more by this author.
It's been a long time since I've read a book by Karen Kingsbury and I know why I've been missing it! I love how beautifully she writes her stories! She really places you in the characters lives and gives you all the feels! I can't wait to catch up and read more of Karen Kingsbury's books!
“You don’t lie to someone you love, and you don’t love someone you lie to”.
Those are the words Maddie Baxter West grew up hearing from
her parents, so why did they lie?
It seems her parents have been putting off telling her she was adopted as a embryo, 22 years ago, when these procedures weren’t really heard of. On top of that, there is a family Maddie has never met and a whole bunch of
“What if’s “.
This is a very interesting topic and a story that can only be told by Karen Kingsbury with the help of the Baxter family.
I have loved and read every book in this series and I was truly blessed to read an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review !
This ARC was provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Atria Books and Simon and Schuster for allowing me this opportunity. I’m a long time fan of Karen Kingsbury, but haven’t read one of her books in a while. Returning to her writing was like snuggling up in a nice, warm blanket-so comforting. It was a joy to revisit the Baxter family again and see how their story lives on. Throughly enjoyed meeting the new characters and loved how Karen has the gift of approaching tough topics including embryo adoption in a graceful way. If you enjoy a nice, light read that includes a beautiful love story, then you will definitely enjoy this one! 4 stars!
It's hard for me to really give a great review on this book. In all honesty I hadn't read any of this authors books. I had heard of her and heard she was a good author but I didn't really know much about her novels. The religious under tones are a bit much for my liking. And almost everyone in the book was religious, it was almost like they lived in their own world of God Loving People.
But like I said I don't think it's fair to give a poor review. Her writing is good, but the story just isn't for me. But for Karin's fans I'm sure it's going to be right up their alley. I just couldn't get into and it took me forever to get thru it. I kept confusing the characters as they seemed to have all the same personality. However she does write about a subject that I sure can or may happen more often then we think. Like I said, I'm sure her fans will really love this book
This was an amazing book that kept me fascinated throughout the entire journey. The characters were engaging and believable. Can’t recommend it enough!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book caught my attention because it dealt with embryo
adoption. My heart broke for Maddie who was blindsided by learning she wasn’t a true Baxter. She comes from a large, religious family and feels lost in exactly who she is. She flees her from her parents and her fiancé to come to grips with who she is and realizes that her purpose in life is pulling her back to her birth parents. At times this book seems very unrealistic but the rawness and heartbreak kept me interested and rooting for Maggie.
Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest opinion.
