The synopsis is what hooked me. You know I love me a good thriller!
I appreciated the authors note in the beginning in regards to proper pronunciation of common Irish names. The book is a bit slow to start. Everything is being set up and you’re getting background information. I started having my suspicions as things slowly started to come together. I also wasn’t exactly sold on the characters at first but as the story progressed, I came around. None of them are very likable but yet it worked for the story. Then the story takes off and holy hell you’re in for a ride! There are some twists and turns I didn’t see coming. I was guessing till the very end. Then sat there and was like whoa. Yeah, so good.
This is the first book I’ve read from this author and I plan on checking out other works by her. I truly enjoyed this book. If you’re a fan of thriller, I highly recommend checking this book out. I give this 4 stars.
I will leave a review on Amazon or B&N on Feb 19, 2020
Only Lies Remain is a pyschological thriller which is one of my favorite genres to read. This book definitely kept me guessing who was responsible for things that had happened. I haven't read any books by this author before, but I did enjoy her writing style. I am sure I will try more of her books. It did take me a few chapters to get caught up in the storyline but once I did it was hard to put down. For those that enjoy thrillers I would recommend this one to them.
I received a ARC of this book from NetGalley and the publisher and this is my fair an honest review.
This book left me shaking my head over and over. Just when I thought I couldn't take anymore, this book made me! I even dreamed about this book. I had to read it all in one day because I simply COULD NOT STOP. Psychological thriller? Ha, try mind f***ing thrilling can't put it down book. Run, do not walk and get this book today.
Danny deserted his family 15 years ago, but then we find out he didn't. He was murdered but by who? Aoife sets out to figure out all the lies in her family and what is really going on. But can we trust Aoife? This will put you in all the characters positions and then pull the rug out from you right when you think you are safe.
I received this advance copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This was the first book I read by Val Collins and I have to say that although I have not read the previous book yet, this one held up on its own very well. I didn’t have to have read the last book in order to have grasped what was happening in this one. Lately, I find that I’m really enjoying books that are set in Ireland (I recently finished a few by fellow author, Catherine Ryan Howard) and I was pleased to find out this one was no different in overall excitement and suspense.
One thing I look for when reading a book is how well it did keeping me guessing. Well, this book took the cake because the twists and turns completely knocked me off my feet! I did not see them coming at all. The book flowed well and was structured in an enjoyable way. I also love books in which it is difficult to determine which character to trust. This was one of those books. Another factor I appreciated is the lack of gory detail in any crime-related scenes. I don’t particularly MIND them, but sometimes they can be a bit much for me and this did not have that, thankfully.
I will absolutely be picking up the last book by this author, because this one had me hooked.
Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy of Only Lies Remain.
I had to give up on this book at about 35%... I hate to do that but I felt myself rolling my eyes at what I was reading and not enjoying it at all. There were so many characters and random things going on that it just seemed all over the place. Maybe if I’d read more everything would come together but my turning point was after reading an entire chapter that was pretty much a back and forth between Aoife and her friend Orla with different scenarios of what happened to her father in law. They were so detailed and over the top that I thought who in their right mind would have this conversation in real life??? I couldn’t even follow along...
I really enjoyed this book. I felt a little lost at the start, but the story really took off a few chapter in & it never really stopped. There were lots of twists & turns and I did not guess the ending.
I really enjoyed this book so much. It has a really great plot, superb main characters and I read it in one sitting. I would highly recommend this book.
WOW! Where to start? Someone had killed Danny, Maura's husband and Aiofe's father-in-law. Yet, they find out about the murder after 15 years. Jason, Danny and Maura's son, is in a very rocky marriage with Aiofe.
A puzzle including many relatives and even former bosses (and their families) is absolutely difficult to pursue ! However, Aiofe is digging her heels in to find out what is the truth. And... who is lying about the past? Worse yet, who can Aiofe trust?
A spectacular mystery - complicated and well written. The reader constantly changes his/her mind as to what happened to Danny and why.
A compelling story that is worth a good read!
Many Thanks to VCB Publishing and NetGalley for a winner!
