I was not a fan for this book at all. I felt like for the first 4 to 5 chapters the author spent dwelling and repeating about the way the main characters are "simple" minded it became to the point of annoying. I also felt like the author tries to make these characters be grown up or at least that's what Jenna and Buddy wanted to be seeing as grown ups but they came off very childish and it just didn't seem to fit the tone of the book. I will say for the most part it is a clean read there is one scene I am sure someone will be offended by but to each his own.
Wow!!!!!!
This is a really special book! Authors that write Amish books are now branching out and writing about many different subjects in their books now.
This one has very vivid character portrayal that you can see yourself becoming friends with .
Inspirational romance at it very best you'll fall in love with the tender romance in this story.
The uniqueness in this book will keep you reading to uncover all the layers of the story. Just when you think it can't get any better the conclusion will melt your heart!

After having read Loving Jenna I can safely say it is a wonderful story of love between 2 people considered different. A very poignant tale of independance and family learning to let go.
I believe anyone that loves to read Amish Christian fiction will love this book!
I loved this story. Even though it is #8 in the series, it definitely is a standalone story. Jenna and Buddy are easily one of my most favorite romances ever. Their love story was so sweet. I also enjoyed that it was non-traditional, in the fact that Buddy has Down's Syndrome and Jenna is brain damaged after a swimming accident. Buddy falls in love with Jenna at first sight. Now they just have to overcome their parents' objections. PJ, Buddy's puppy, was also a very cute addition to the story. All the characters were really well written. I highly recommend! Thank you to Netgalley and Kensington for the ARC. All opinions expressed are my own.
This book touches a special place in all parents and grandparents’ hearts. Amy Lillard has written a new series, set in our beloved tractor-driving Amish community of Wells Landing, Oklahoma. Old friends from past novels appear in the background, which is always a huge enjoyment for me because I wonder how my ‘friends’ are doing.
“Loving Jenna” strives to show both sides of love for those with disabilities who want to protect their loved ones and the desire of those ‘special’ souls to live life on their terms. Buddy Miller and Jenna Burkhart feel that God has led them to be together. However, their parents are extremely overprotective and fear for their children. This roadblock sets off a series of events in all their lives.
I recommend you read the latest novel from Amy Lillard and be prepared to root for Buddy and Jenna, as they realize they’re stronger than anyone else realizes, especially as a team. Everyone needs that someone special that believes in them. This novel reminded me of the fact everyone is loved by Him.

This was truly an exceptional book! As a mother of three special needs children, I appreciate all of the angles and viewpoints demonstrated in this incredible story about two individuals in the amish community with special needs finding one another and fighting for their right to love.
The characters in this story were very well developed, and the many complications from many angles were explored in just enough depth to truly transport the reader to the community in which this book takes place. Although some of the characters would be easy to disagree with (over protective instincts), it was hard to not experience the depth of each emotion demonstrated. Therefore, there truly were no real villains, even though family did make a great effort to stand in the way of this couple becoming independent adults. As a mom of three such children, I can appreciate where these deep emotions the parents showed were stemming from. I also was cheering loudly for the young couple to win out!
This is one of the few books I have ever read that was so beautifully written from every possible angle. I will absolutely be seeking more stories written by Amy Lillard!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Kensington Books through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Loving.Jenna is a beautifully written inspirational romance. A great plot and well crafted characters. I highly recommend this book. My thanks to the publisher for my advance ebook. This is my unbiased review.
I was so glad to be coming back to Wells Landing in Amy Lilliard's new book, Loving Jenna. With such descriptive writing I am able to imagine the beautiful Amish settlement and I'm excited to meet the new people who move to the community. They all come hoping to find a new start but they have their own set of problems. It's always an adventure to see how they are resolved.
This book really had me thinking about Jenna and Buddy's situation. I admit that at first I sided with both Mothers and went right along with their way of thinking. However, this book gave such a different point of view, my mindset began to change as the story unfolded. Some of you may come around much sooner.
Both Jenna and Buddy were my favorite charactors. I was so proud to see what hard workers they both were. I loved how they generally tried to think about things before they followed through. They were so careful about the feelings of others and thought about what God would like them to do.
What a wonderful story filled with community, family, and love.
I was given this book by the author. This has been my honest review.
Loving Jenna brings us back to the town of Wells Landing. Jenna and her family has just moved to town. Ever since a childhood accident, her mom has called her "simple/special". Buddy Miller has lived here all his life. Born with Downs Syndrome, Buddy is loved and protected by all but he too is considered "special". When they meet, Buddy and Jenna begin to believe that even though they may be "simple/special" , they are capable of love and marriage. However, both Moms are against this idea. Will they be able to overcome not only their specialness but their families concerns?
I loved this story. I do believe it has been my favorite so far. Seeing the love that these two special people have for not only their families and friends but each other was truly the best. The way that they are portrayed shows how much research the author put in to the book. I also love how their community rallied around them. I look forward to seeing them in future stories. I want to see how they grow not only in their life but in their love. I received a copy through Netgalley. A positive review was not required.
I have read many books written by Amy Lillard, but this one has truly captured my heart and beleive it is one of Lillard's best book yet. Your heart will be filled with love and hope and as a parent you will feel the fear of how parents react when tragedy hits and when your children may be just a bit different from others. Lillard does an expcetional job making you see how much can be learned from otheres that may be different. If your looking for a book of encourgement then look no futher this is simply a wonderful written story that bring glory to God and how He can work in all circumstances.
Thank you Amy Lillard for contining to give us clean reading and inspritaion.
The Wells Landing series continues in this eighth book, Loving Jenna. Jenna is such a sweetheart with her kind and loving manner. I didn't like the term "weak brain" being used in a way to belittle Jenna. Buddy has a happy go lucky guy spirit that makes everyone smile. The way people called Buddy "special" was irritating. The story points out that God has a perfect spouse for one if that's part of his plan. Recommended!
This was an amazing book! Was absolutely tear jerker. Once I started I couldn't put it down Amy really outdid herself on this one. I hope there will be more to this series as I feel in love with the whole family.
Loving Henna is not a typical Amish romance, it is so much more. This book is so sweet and emotional. It will leave you with a full heart! The characters in this story are well developed and will live in tour heart for quite a while. The story is so well written. I highly recommend this book for Amish fiction fans and anyone who loves sweet fiction. Thanks to netgalley for the complimentary arc, the opinions are my own.
One of the sweetest love stories I ever read. The story is about Jenna she moves to Wells Landing with her mother and grandmother. Jenna is special she was in a drowning accident that left her slow and different than she was. She goes to a singing and meets Buddy who was born with Down Syndrome. When Buddy meets Jenna he things she is a angel. When he drives her home from a singing Jenna's mother gets upset. Tells Buddy and Jenna that Jenna is not old enough to court. . Jenna and Buddy want to be together but both their parents do not like it. This is a story of how two people who are different but want to be treated like adults fight so they can be together. It is a warm loving story that you do not want to put down. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read and give my honest opinion. Thanks to the author who wrote a winner book.
This is a wonderful sweet love story. It’s not a typical Amish story, it is so much more. This is a beautifully written book that is full of emotions. The author made the story come to life with her words. This is a book you don’t want to miss. Thank you Kensington Books Zebra via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. I was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
This was the first book of this kind that I have read. A different type of Amish romance, but definitely very sweet, touching and definitely GOOD! Jenna, her mom and grandmother start a new life in Wells Landing. Jenna is a "special" young woman caused by a childhood accident that left her different than before. In the new home town, Jenna is noticed by another special person, Buddy. Their friendship blossoms and despite concerns of family and friends, they are determined to be together.
This book is so good. You will be very emotionally moved by the characters, their obstacles that hinder their personal growth and their determination to succeed. I loved it.
I received an ebook copy from the author. All thoughts are my own.
Loving Jenna is a sweet, clean romance story. Jenna meets Buddy, who has Downs syndrome, Jenna had been in a swimming accident that left her permanently damaged. Their relationship grows, and they become more than friends, although their parents are against it. A beautiful story!
What happens when two special needs young adults meet and fall in love...chaos ensues! Amy Lillard has written a wonderful story about a topic that isn't mentioned or discussed as much as it should be. Her story is thoughtful, realistic, and yet humorous at times. It takes place in an Amish community with a lot of the same reactions parents from any sector of life finds very challenging to deal with. I really loved the way Amy told the story!
She had died…. drowned in a swimming accident when she was twelve. Thankfully someone in the group she was with knew CPR. The accident did affect her brain though and left her with a “weak brain” as her mother told her all the time.
He was born with Down’s Syndrome. He didn’t look like anyone else and he was “slow”.
Lillard takes us back to Wells Landing and into the lives of two special young people. Jenna Gail Burkhart and “Buddy” Ivan Dale Miller. Jenna, her mother, and her grandmother had moved to Wells Landing from Kansas. Buddy lived there all his life with his parents and siblings.
Jenna and Buddy’s mothers didn’t allow either of them to do things “normal” young people did. They were always told they were “special” and couldn’t do this or that. They each kept their children close.
Close, that is, until Jenna and Buddy met each other at church one Sunday. From then on things were different around the Burkhart and Miller homes. Unlike the obedient Amish children that we always read about, they questioned their parents. Why can’t I? I don’t want to. I’m almost twenty-one, I should be able to.
Were Jenna and Buddy able to prove to their parents that they weren’t “special”? That just because it took them a little longer to “get” things didn’t make them simple or weak brained? That they could live happy and productive lives?
Read Jenna and Buddy’s love story. It’s a change from the norm in this genre and I absolutely loved it! I can’t remember reading another Amish fiction story of someone with “special” needs. Thank you, Amy, for a wonderful read!
