This is a Mother's Day tribute with three Short stories. Fern Michaels has contributed Three's a Crowd as a woman returns to her parents home with a baby they didn't know was coming. book 2 is Donna Kauffman's, New Beginnings in Blue Hollow Falls. It is a continuation of her series with Katie and Declan's story. Melissa Storm gives us Bring Me Home , with Hazel adjusting to her Dad's terminal cancer diagnosis. All three are good stories but I think I liked Bring Me home the best. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
There are three stories in this book, all of which center on a secret or secrets that that are revealed. In the first, after time away in war-torn locales, war correspondent Samantha Stewart has returned to her family home—with an unexpected and not-previously-revealed young daughter. Her parents are naturally surprised, but almost immediately fall under the spell of their new granddaughter. Who can resist a baby? As the story progresses, we learn more about the time Sam spent away, but she refuses to discuss little Caroline’s father and the circumstances of her birth. Finally, a bouquet of flowers upsets her so much that the story begins to come out, and her secret is no more. Next, we are transported to Blue Hallow Falls, where Dubliner Katie MacMillan has returned to help out during the final days of her sister’s troubled pregnancy. Little does she know that Declan MacGregor, her first crush and childhood tease, has also returned to Blue Hollow Falls. Katie knows she holds a secret about Declan, as he holds one about her. What happens when these two, with their secrets, finally figure out what is going on? In the third story, Hazel Long, struggling to come to grips with the fact that her beloved father, who raised he alone after her mother’s early death, is dying, begins to learn secrets her father has kept for years and years, and everything she thought or believed is thrown into a tizzy.
These stories were okay. In the first, I found the ending totally unbelievable, I felt the author suddenly realized she had to wind things up, without any ending in mind, and just sort of threw in the first idea that came into mind, though it was totally unbelievable. The story was pretty good and interesting, until the ending, which spoiled it for me. In the second, I figured out what was going on almost from the start and how things would end. Nice romance. The third story was different but satisfying. The best of the group, in my opinion. Like happens in real life, there are memories of events and people, which usually become somewhat exaggerated over time, did not always happen the way we were told or remembered they did, come out. I was interesting to watch how things change for Hazel, and how she reacts, as well as watching the romance angle the author threw in. I think these are stories worth reading as well as interesting to watch the turn of events. I received this form NetGalley to read and review.
I am not normally a fan of short story collections, but because Home Sweet Home contained a short bu Fern Michaels, I agreed to read it. I was not a fan of this collection, even the Michaels' story. The stories all seemed to be based on other stories so if you are not a reader of the other authors, you feel lost. In THREE’S A CROWD by Fern Michaels, Samantha Stewart has been a foreign corespondent and has been working overseas for the last three years. She comes home to see her parents and surprises them with an 8 month old baby. She reveals little about the father until the end of the story when they are magically reunited. In my opinion, the story ended abruptly. In NEW BEGINNINGS IN BLUE HOLLOW FALLS by Donna Kauffman, Katie MacMillan is back in Blue Hollow Falls to help with her sister’s pregnancy. She ends up confronting Declan MacGregor, her childhood crush. Magically they end up reuniting. I am sure there are other Blue Hollow Falls stories because this one leads you to believe that. In BRING ME HOME by Melissa Storm, Hazel Long is spending time with her dying father. She makes friends with others dealing with family members of cancer patients as well as a cancer nurse. Hazel’s father tells her the story of the mother she barely knew. Hazel and the nurse become a couple. All of these stories, in my opinion, share weak story development.
While these stories were written by three separate, distinct writers, there was an underlying thread of love & sacrifice that ran through them. The heroine in each story finds her true love & her way. Each story is written in that authors’ style & touched my emotions in different ways. If you never read anything by these authors, this will truly give you a good introduction to them & their way of writing.
Home Sweet Home was an enjoyable read. The three stories relate to home and homecoming. I enjoyed all three stories but I loved Donna Kauffman entry the most. It's part of her series, I enjoyed and recommend this book.
Really enjoyed all 3 of these stories. All of these Authors have different writting styles but I enjoyed the variety. My favorite of this series was Donna Kauffmans story as I really enjoy her Blue Hallow Falls Series.
I would definately recommend this series.
Thank you to Netgalley for allowing me to express my honest opinion.
This was a collection of three stories by different authors that embrace the meaning of home, and homecoming. They were all very good and made for a very enjoyable reading experience.
Many thanks to Kensington Books and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Heartwarming, emotionally thrilling and engaging down home romantic adventures filled with exciting charters, witty banter, heart racing twists and undeniable sweet passion. Really enjoyed all three of these stories and the exciting sweetly emotional journey they send you on.
I'm going to be real here, Donna Kauffman's part was the only love story in this book. I enjoyed her story because it continues her Blue Hollow series which is amazing. I can see how if you've never read any of those there may be a lot of people to get to know in a short novella. But, that should motivate you to read the other books!! They are amazing.
Ok but back to the other two. Fern Michaels first. This is about a woman who comes home to her family after 3 years doing war reporting with a baby. Ok, great. Interesting. Missing husband. Threats. Mystery. Suspense. ...... Where is the romance though? Meh.
This last one I'm not even naming because it was incredibly depressing, I did not finish it, and it was also NOT a romance.
Donna is Queen.
Home Sweet Home is a wonderful book containing three stories by three authors. Three's a Crowd by Fern Michaels is about Samantha Stewart introducing her daughter, Caroline, to her grandparents. New Beginnings in Blue Hollow Falls by Donna Kauffman is the story of Katie MacMillan who goes to Blue Hollow Falls to help her pregnant sister. Last is, Bring Me Home by Melissa Storm which tells the story of Hazel Long who is spending time with her bedridden father in the hospital, as he tells Hazel about her mother, who she barely knew. All three stories are wonderful, and I love finding new authors. I highly recommend this book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
A wonderful way to introduce yourself to new-to-you authors. Or to enjoy a short tale from one of your favorites plus bonus stories. All three were sweet, captivating, and interesting reads.
This was three books that all have HEA's. They are all stand alone. Each on bringing its own theme to the series. I enjoyed all of them and would read these authors again.
This is a wonderful book of three stories from Fern Michaels, Donna Kauffman and Melissa Storm. I have had the pleasure of reading books by Fern Michaels and Melissa Storm in the past to which I have always enjoyed but it a first time read by Donna Kauffman. Each story is about a Homecoming of different types but the main message in each was the love of home and family no matter how you have lived your life until now.
THREE’S A CROWD - Fern Michaels ****
Samantha Stewart has not been home in over 3 years, but she finds it time. Time to face the past and live for the future in the place she calls home. Thes last three years have been wonderful, eye-opening, scary, frightening but she would not change a single thing about who her life has a war correspondent.
Its Mother's day weekend as she returns home to her parent's place, but she is not returning alone. She has her 8-month-old daughter with her, a daughter she has not told her parents about even though she has been in contact with them during her time overseas.
She cannot explain what has happened in Afghanistan or even about the father of her child. Will her parents forgive her about the dispersion, and will they accept their granddaughter with love?
I love the story right up to the very last character but the ending for me was too rushed; it felt uncompleted to me.
NEW BEGINNINGS IN BLUE HOLLOW FALLS - Donna Kauffman *****
As I have not read anything by Donna Kauffman before I soon learnt that this novella is part of a series "Blue Hollow Falls" that going by this books sounds great. I loved all the characters in this book and would love to read the other books as well.
This story is a second chance romance where it has been Ten years, five months, two weeks and four days according to Declan MacGregor when he sees his childhood friend/ sister Katie again. Declan was taken in by the MacMillan clan as a 10-year-old boy who was always running away from his foster homes.
Katie MacMillan has come to Blue Hollow Falls to start a new chapter in her life and help her sister/boss with her new stage of life: motherhood. But when she arrives she soon learns things are not as she planned.
Declan MacGregor has found a home in Blue Hollow Falls after all his travels around the world looking through his camera lens, a home that even surprised him. He knows she is coming but he is still taken by surprise when he first sees her after all these years.
Years have not changed either one too much as they both will fight the feeling of their childhood and the feeling of family commitments. They grow up together in the same house how can they possibly feel the way they do even now after many years apart?
I really enjoyed this story and felt a connection straight away with the characters. A wonderful feel-good read for everyone.
BRING ME HOME * Melissa Storm ****
I have read many Mislissa Storm books before and in normal Storm style this book was full of emotion and feelings but not all of them where happy ones.
Hazel Long's dad has been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer which has a big impact on Hazel has her father is all she has. They have a very close relationship and she is happy to sit by the hospital with him to spend as much time as possible with him.
Hazel makes some new friends while at the hospital that will help in the hard days to come. As the cancer and treatment proceeds, Hazel learns many things about the mother she bearly new as her father shares memories of her mother with her.
Keith is the very sexy and cute Kemo Nurse that works at the hospital, Hazel gets to know him as her father's treatment continues and he and the group of woman she met are a strong source of emotional help in Hazel dealing with the reality of her loss.
I struggled with this story on a personal level that had no reflection on the writer or the story.
Home Sweet Home is a combination of several stories by three authors who are auto-buys for me. Although only New Beginnings in Blue Hollow Falls actually is part of another series, each story is unique and touching as they all bring us stories that will bring tears to your eyes, and often a smile followed by laughter.
As with any book that has multiple stories from different worlds in it I did have my own personal favorite – which may be far different than yours. All of these stories touched my heart, engaged my emotions in one way or another. Bittersweet combines with finding love in one, reuniting with family in another, and taking a chance on a new beginning in another. I enjoyed my time with these authors very much, and I’m certain you would as well.
I think it’s fair to say that you should experience each for yourself firsthand, but I believe you’ll have an excellent time with each one for different reasons.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
Loved this book so much!! This book instantly became my favorite. Gave me a "Book Hangover"! Love these authors so much that all the stories were my favorite.
Three great stories by three great authors -- how can you go wrong? You really can't!
Fern Michaels -- Three's a crowd: Samantha has been away from home, reporting in war zones and seeing things that no one should ever see. She comes home finally, burned out, and with a surprise for her parents. Then she gets a surprise of her own!
Donna Kauffman -- New beginnings in Blue Hollow Falls: A continuation of the series. Katie MacMillan comes to the Hollow to help her sister Pippa, who is married to the brother of her best friend Moira, with her pregnancy. She's already decided to move from Dublin to Blue Hollow after spending some time there a year or so earlier. A second chance at love becomes possible when an old crush shows up.
Melissa Storm -- Bring me home: Hazel Long goes home to spend some time with her seriously ill father. She becomes friendly with other visitors while at the hospital for his treatments. Then there's the hot male nurse who is very kind and helpful. While he still can, her father begins to tell stories of Hazel's mother who'd died while Hazel was a toddler. And yes, there's definitely a HEA in this story too!
Three short stories about coming home. Each story is by different authors. Fern Michaels had way too many circles going round and round. It was exasperating. As novellas, they are sweet and lovable.
Home Sweet Home by Fern Michaels, Donna Kauffman, and Melissa Storm, is a wonderful compilation of three romances involving going home or finding home. Each author brought their romance to life in a short novella and left you looking forward to more from each of them. Each wrote a delightful romance in their style in order to tell their own story.
Three’s a crowd by Fern Michaels features Samantha Stewart returning home for Mother’s Day after spending three years reporting from war zones; bringing with her a few surprises for her parents.
New Beginnings in Blue Hollow Falls by Donna Kauffman features Kate MacMillan arriving from Dublin to help with her sister, Pippa’s pregnancy. Blue Hollow Falls felt like home to Kate, especially with so many members of her family popping in to check on Pippa. Kate is anticipating a new beginning but a second chance just might also be in the cards when she encounters, and confronts Declan MacGregor, her first crush and brother’s best friend.
Bring Me Home by Melissa Storm features loner Hazel Long as she spends time with her ill father. While he is at the hospital for treatment she finds friendship among other visitors and the kindness of a handsome male nurse. Hazel’s father begins to share with her the story of the mother who died when Hazel was quite young. This was an unexpected opportunity for them to bond.
Ms. Kauffman, Ms. Michaels and Ms. Storm wrote wonderful and moving stories that are not to be missed. Each story is filled with fun dialogue, engaging characters and the magic of being with family. I highly recommend Home Sweet Home to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Home Sweet Home By Fern Michaels, Donna Kauffman and Melissa Story
This is a compilation of three feel good short stories. The first on by Fern Michaels had a lot of substance and interesting characters and situations. I loved it. The second one was really confusing from the beginning. So many characters and their relationships to each other were introduced in the first few pages that I could not keep track of who was who and that made the rest of the story hard to read and not interesting to me. The third story was a lovely story and very enjoyable. I just wished it had been fleshed out into a whole book because it moved along well and then suddenly, bang bang bang it was brought to a conclusion and over. I felt the same way about Fern Michael’s story.
Overall I was pleased with the book and it would be ideal for someone who just has a short time to read and they could read one of the stories in one sitting each time.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from NetGalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
This was a truly enjoyable by two authors that I have read previously. All the stories get the reader involved quickly and engaged until the end.
