Interesting book! Lots of twists and turns that keeps the reader intersted! Characters are good and the story flows effortlessly!

More of a history lesson then a love story, not a lot of frisson or spice
This is slightly different from other books in the same genre. It has more like quest for the secrets buried in a place almost like a treasure and unraveling the past of two clans. The romance between the lead characters is sweet but if you are expecting any kind of steam, there is pretty much no steam at all. This is more of how the feelings develop between the hero and heroine after they get married as a compromise between two clans that hate each other. The hero who was supposed to become the clan's chief is suddenly identified as a bastard and there the story kicks off.
To be honest, I'm on the fence about this story! Although it has a good basis, it becomes so complicated trying to understand everything that happened 30 years ago and who was who and who was involved, etc. My head was spinning there for a while! I had read the first book in the series and just like that one, I felt there was no real connection between Lachlan and Finley....even though forced into marriage, they stayed "just friends" until the last couple of chapters. The story also ends in a cliffhanger where the villain is concerned....aaarrggghhh!!!!
It's not a terrible story, in fact I did enjoy many parts of it but to me, there just seemed to be something missing or maybe too much added to the story to make it drag. I did like Finley and Lachlan's characters and also enjoyed the humour here and there.
I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
