Sorry but this book wasn't for me,i just couldn't get into the story,maybe it was because of the scottish dialect which was off putting but i just felt as though the story kept repeating itself and there was a lot of meaningless dialog in the book.Flora and Neil adopt a child because they can't have any children but the Beckie is from the Johnson family who want Beckie back and are determined to do what ever it takes to get her back with them.But i had lost interest to be honest in the story long before the end,other reviewers may disagree but sorry this was not for me.

This is the first book I read from this author and I really liked it. I couldn’t put the book down. The characters were engaged and deep, the plot well developed and the twists unexpected. I’m looking forward to reading more books from this author.

A fantastic well written book! I had to keep right on reading into the night and finish this page turner. Twists and turns and sometimes scary!
Set in Scotland. The story follows Becky and her closed adoption from an abusive family.
Flora and Neil are unable to have children and it's love at first sight with Becky! They genuinely love her and Becky loves them as well.
The Johnson's stop at nothing to try and find Becky and get her back.
Will they even commit murder?
The author did a wonderful job with characters.

Fantastic absolutely brilliant I loved both families and how they interacted I could see both sides of the frustration I loved all the twists and turns that popped up through out and everytime I thought I had worked it out anuther twist appeared I’d love to read a follow on abt the family before the adoption

The story follows the life of Becky and her adoption from an abusive family. The family feel the child has been taken from them unfairly and does everything within their means to return her to them.

The book is set in Scotland and the Scottish dictionary was very helpful. The characters were relatable, interesting and funny. I thought they were well written and enjoyed the character development. .

I did feel the book had a slightly predictable end and the outcome was quite unrealistic but this does not take away from the twists and turns throughout the book. Overall I enjoyed the story and will definitely read other work from this author in the future.

Watch over Me is a thrilling read about a closed adoption of a little girl from a criminal family Based in Scotland the writing slang took a while to get used to. The birth family intent on tracking down little Beckie will stop at nothing to get their little girl back. An exciting thriller I recommend you read.

“Watch Over me” had a great story line. I struggled quite a bit with all the Scottish slang, but it did help set the story. Overall, it was a good book and well written.

What a terrific book, I loved it.
Alec and Ruth adopt a little girl taken away from the Johnsons, a dysfunctional, ruthless family steeped in crime. The Johnsons are determined to get the little girl, Bekki/Beckie, back and harass Alec and Ruth until they disappear to a new location. However, the Johnsons, much more intelligent than thought, find them again, even though the change of names and address.
The POVs are from Ruth and Lorraine Johnson, with Lorraine's Glaswegian voice making me laugh at times. My late husband came from near there, so I was familiar with the lingo and loved it...I didn't even need the glossary at the back.
There were many times I forgot to breathe, I was that engaged and absolutely loved the ending.
Great psychological thriller that I highly recommend!

Outlandish at times but a fun and intriguing journey! I really enjoyed this unique story and the many unpredictable turns!

We’re on January 9th 2020 and I can promise you Watch Over Me will be making my top books of 2020 list in December! Wow what a start to my literary year.

Honestly I loved this book, it had everything I could ever want and more! The differences between the characters was extremely well done and I loved the writing style. The Scottish slang was a little difficult to get through at times (there’s a glossary at the end) but it perfectly set the scene.

There’s some great twists in here as well. The ending was perfect. This is a strong 5/5 and I’m very happy I got to read Watch Over Me. I can highly recommend this book.

I really, really tried to get into this book. In fact, I completed half of it, but I just couldn’t keep going. I had a hard time keeping focus when the dialog changed from Ruth/Alec to the Johnsons. And I’m sure that’s all on me. I also felt like it dragged on quite a bit.

All that said, it was a pretty decent story line.

The story starts of a little confusing. In the synopsis, we are introduced to Neil, Flora, Beckie and the Johnsons. The beginning introduces us to Alec and Ruth. The conditions that Beckie lived in were terrible so it was no surprise when she was removed from her birth family’s home. When the Johnsons found out personal information about Alec and Ruth, they had to leave for their family’s safety. While they left the Johnsons came to harass their neighbors to get information on where they could have gone.
The Johnsons are ruthless in their pursuit of finding Beckie.

I have to admit, I liked Neil (Alec) and Beckie but I didn’t care for Ruth (Flora/Rachel) at all. I think she made a lot of decisions based on how it made her look as opposed to what the right thing to do was. She’s a good mother and Beckie was definitely better off with her.

The Johnsons were very intelligent and to the general public that fact was hidden. The manipulation and cunning was extremely sophisticated. They hid this well from everyone but the people who believed they were doing/capable of it.

This book was pretty slow up until the end. That’s when my attention was really caught. I didn’t think I seen any real surprises until there was about 15 to 20% of the book was left.

This book just wasn't for me. Couldn't get into it. The speaking style really turned me off and made me not want to finish it. I gave up pretty quickly. I skipped to the back to see if anything good happened, but I still couldn't finish it.

A different look into adoption. Bekki is denied adoption by her grandparents. Her mum, Shannon- Rose is awaiting trial for murder. After the necessary paperwork and visits, Bekki (now Beckie) is awarded to Ruth and Alec Morrison.. The adoption trial lays out all of the awful truths about Bekki's grandparents - this gives the judge no choice but to award Bekki (now 2 1/2 years old) up for adoption.

On the other side of the spectrum we see childless Ruth and Alec who earnestly (at least Ruth is earnest) looking to adopt a child. After all of the papers are finalized, Ruth and Alec adopt Bekki (now Beckie). Of course, this is not the end by far. Bekki's grandparents and their extended family are determined to "unclose" the closed adoption...

Off the Morrison's go - to change their names and have a new start. Still cautious, they begin a new life. It seems as if Ruth has more secrets to hide, though...

Great story from Inkubator Books and NetGalley! Suggest you give it a read.

This was a very good psychological thrillers. I did not figure out who the antagonist was until the very end and I usually figure them out halfway through the book. Although I knew something was amiss with the antagonist it was a surprise as to who it turned out to be. The story is about a family who adopts a girl from a dysfunctional family and their interactions. The protagonist has a secret that isn’t revealed until at least halfway through the story which colors her actions when dealing with the dysfunctional family. There is a lot of suspense throughout the story. This book will appeal to mystery fans and psychological thriller fans.

Halfway through the book but so far it is true to life and heartbreaking for the adoptive mum.. it keeps you on the edge of your seat as you dont know what is going to happen next.
