The Girl from Widow Hills was more than I expected it to be! At first, I was thinking this would be a basic domestic thriller of sorts. However, after each chapter, I kept questioning what truly happened to Arden all those years ago when she was found clinging to a storm drain. Arden doesn't want to be known as the poor girl from all those years ago, but when her past comes back, she is forced to unravel the mystery behind her whereabouts during the time she was missing.
This book is definitely meant for readers who enjoy piecing together puzzle pieces. For readers that enjoy those books that are more than meets the eye. I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a past trauma for a character that is a focal point of the story. Megan Miranda unravels the past in a mysterious way without giving too much for her readers to already know the 'twist'.
This was a good thriller. The plot twist at the end got me. I never saw it coming!
Thank you to the Publisher and Netgalley for the advanced e-reader copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
The Girl from Widow Hills was a wonderful read! I've been going through a mystery phase in my reading and this was a great addition to my TBR. Megan Miranda did an awesome job keeping me interested in the story from start to finish and I will definitely be reading more from her.
I admit, I have been a pretty slow reader lately. This book is listed as a thriller, which for me it really wasn't. It was fairly slow paced for me. I did finish it, which shows it was enough to keep me going and there was a twist at the end that was like Huh....That's messed up, like really messed up, but overall this book just was meh for me. The characters were hard to get invested in, the premise for the story is what drug me in and kept me going, there were a lot of unresolved stuff at the end with almost all the characters.
This is a psychological thriller. I have to say that this one was really not from me. The pacing of this book was slow for me, and I really could not get into the characters. I found myself feeling like I missed something and reading back. I just did not care about the story or the characters at the end of the story. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher or author via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I do not understand why this book is still listed for me I send my feedback three years ago. Sending this to remove,
Decent thriller. The ending made up for the long middle. I wasn’t sure I was going to like it much until then.
I have read many of Megan Miranda’s books, and enjoyed them. This book was slow going. The end was a surprise but it took too long to get there.
Olivia has changed her name and moved to get away from the drama of her younger life. She was washed away in a drain pipe. She was lost for three days before being found. Someone knows the truth though and wants money to keep quiet.
Good story but too slow.
This was another good one from Megan Miranda! I couldn't put it down which is always a sign of a good mystery. Would recommend!
I've enjoyed Megan Miranda's other books so I was excited to dive into this one. I don't know that this was one of her best. The pacing was quite slow for a psychological thriller but the overall storyline, plot development and character arc were solid.
The Girl from Widow Hills was my first introduction to Megan Miranda and it definitely won't be the last book I read by her. This was incredibly suspenseful, full of twists that kept me guessing. The characters were well-developed and intriguing. I highlighted The Girl from Widow Hills in my Best Fiction of 2020 video on BookTube, which you can find here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79nOMdf80Eg&t=443s.
Thank you for my review copy.
.
This was not the title for me. Maybe my expectations were outa whack (that sometimes happens for me), but I have decided to not finish The Girl from Widow Hills. I have given it quite a bit of time....coming back to it and sadly, I do not think it is working. It is a DNF.
Love this Author. She is an automatic purchase for me.
I do believe this is her best book to date.
Do yourself a favor and read this!
Oh I really wanted to enjoy this book. I read so many good things about it. I just could not finish it. I tried so hard but the story was just not for me.
This was my first Megan Miranda book. Sadly, I just couldn’t get into the writing style. None of the characters were like able and so I had to abandon the novel at 20%.
Megan Miranda definitely redeemed herself on this one. I didn't care for her last book The Last House Guest but have immensely enjoyed her other works. This one completely blew it out of the water for me.
This book instantly hooked me from the beginning, the plot of this book was so intriguing and interesting. One thing I have noticed with thrillers is there tends to be a popular trend of similar plot points but I honestly have never read anything like this book.
The gist of the story is about our main character, Arden, who act the age of 6 went missing and was found three days later in a sewer drain. Fast forward to her life twenty years later, she's changed her name and moved away from where it all happened to get a new start on her life. But when she discovers a body while sleepwalking, events start to happen that makes her question if the past is coming back to haunt her and if what made national headlines was actually real.
The way the story was set up was perfect and I loved how you got to read interviews and 911 calls from what happened in the past, it really made it more real and gave you more information into what had happened 20 years prior. I loved the main character Olivia and how she was portrayed. She was still reeling from what had happened to her in the past but she was also taking life into her own hands and was a very strong character.
I definitely did not see the multiple plot twists coming and what I had predicted at the beginning of the book was way wrong. But I'm not complaining about that at all as I don't like to be able to figure out the plot twists, I like to be surprised and in awe when they actually happen.
All in all, a great thriller that I highly recommend if you've enjoyed any of Megan Miranda's past books. This is one of her best books yet and I'm very glad I got to read it!
Thank you so much to Simon and Schuster and NetGalley for the complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!
Megan Miranda has been a hit or miss author for me. The first book I read of hers remains my favorite- All The Missing Girls. I recommended this to everyone after reading it- I loved how the timeline was set up differently than any other book I've read. Unfortunately, The Girl from Widow Hills fell flat for me. The first half-ish was sooo slow, and none of the characters are well developed or likable. Also, the premise of the story was a bit strange; it was unbelievable that it was still such a sensational case TWENTY years later. Overall, this sounded interesting to me, but was a bit disappointing in terms of being an unputdownable thriller. Thank you for the advanced copy, and I'm sorry I cannot give a more positive review.
Absolutely amazing. I loved this book and I would absolutely recommend to anyone. I loved the twists and turns in this novel.
A promising read by this great author, as usual.... I enjoyed the premise & the story clipped along at a great pace. Thanks for the ARC!
All I have to say is wow! Megan Miranda had me on edge the entire story! I couldn’t stop reading until I found out what happens next! This pulled me in from the beginning and I felt I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough! Such a good thriller! Will recommend this to all of my friends and family!
