Reminds me of how much I love Red Rising. I'm not a fan of the art style, but the story is great.
If it's been a while since you read the main trilogy, I'd recommend going back and brushing up on the main events, it makes it so much cooler to make connections with these prequels without the frustrated head-scratching and elusive memories.
The story is pretty good, as usual I would add, but the images.....not so much, I have to admit this style of drawing is not my kind of tea...
La storia é bella e prosegue il prequel dei figli di Ares, ma i disegni.....non mi piacciono per niente.....
THANKS NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW!
Although I love the idea of a graphic novel set in this universe and I liked the opportunity to explore more background stories, this was just not for me. I'm not sure if it was the art style or just the format (although I have read a lot of graphic novels that I did enjoy) I just had trouble connecting to the characters and really caring about what was happening.
As much as I love the Red Rising world, this second volume seemed much weaker than the first although I did enjoy the artwork and seeing the Razor's in action.
As a huge fan of Red Rising, I tried reading vol 1 of Sons of Ares, and despite some huge downsides to that series, I found it quite enjoyable. So, when I saw the chance to read the second volume here, I took the chance. However, I was left quite disappointed by this one. I had such a hard time getting into the story that I ended up giving up at the half-way mark. It was slow and somehow lacked that pull that I came to love in Red Rising. And, just as with volume one, the art is, in my opinion, atrocious.
So, unfortunately, this was not for me.
As a hardcore fan of Pierce Brown and Howler at heart, I rejoice whenever there is expansion to Red Rising Saga universe, no matter what form. So even though Red Rising: Sons of Ares, Vol.1 didn't sweep me off my feet, I still couldn't wait to get my hands on this continuation of Fitchner's story.
Surprisingly, I liked Red Rising: Sons of Ares, Vol. 2: Wrath better than Vol.1. Storyline was more well-knit which enabled me to enjoy it more. It had the beginning, the action and the end. Simply said it weren't just random scenes glued together as often happens in graphic novels. So I really enjoyed the storyline part. Artistic part was also great. I liked the gloomy colours that illustrator used, they set perfect atmosphere for the story.
I'm really glad that I picked this graphic novel up and could witness the birth of true spirit of Sons of Ares. All in all, great addition to Red Rising Saga universe!
I received an ARC from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I always enjoy reading anything related to the Red Rising series and this graphic novel didn’t disappoint. An illustrated. Erosion of the rise of Ares is just what the doctor ordered. It seems to add to the excitement, murder and mayhem. Great continuance of the storyline furthering the feud between two old friends now sworn enemies. I can’t get I to the storyline without giving it all away but it’s a very quick read, so I recommend if you’re a fan of the series, just read it. It’s worth it.

The Red Rising Saga has been one of my most favorite series in recent years, and I am not disappointed with the prequel graphic novel series, Red Rising Sons of Ares.
This is difficult to discuss without spoilers, but I will say that I love seeing Pierce Brown's storytelling in a visual format. My one critique for the artwork would be that I wish the facial expressions were more clear and realistic than are represented by this art style. I very much enjoy the use of color and the use of the art style in building the world.
I will absolutely pick up any future works in this series, and recommend any fans of Red Rising pick up this welcome expansion to the universe.
