Love Sold Separately took me by surprise. The cover doesn't exactly reflect the story. At first glance, I thought it would be your typical rom com. I decided to read it almost solely based on the cover, versus the synopsis.
I was pleasantly surprised. The book kept my attention, and I liked the main character. I didn't find it particularly memorable, and I imagine by this time next year, I will probably have forgotten the majority of the book. Despite this, it was still a decent read, and I'm interested in reading the sequel as well.
I couldn't get into this book, I'm sad about that because I was really looking forward to it. I might enjoy listening to it better than physically reading it, so I might try it out again once I can get that format.
Eh not for me but it was pretty good just not want I was looking for but I will be recommending this book to friends who I know will love it
Romance mixed with a mystery/thriller? Count me in! This was a fun and fast who-done-it and I really loved it.
Dana's a mess. Hoping a shopping channel job will turn things around, but then there's a dead body, turning this into a witty mystery too. It was fun.
This wasn’t exactly what I thought it would be, but I enjoyed the murder mystery aspect of it. I think I expected there to be more romance but I still really liked the characters and their relationships.
Thank you for allowing me to read and review Love Sold Separately. This one was enjoyable and had me guessing the whole way through. It had a great mystery feel to it. I was super curious to find out who the killer was. I think though this title and cover makes it more look like a romance book rather than a mystery so that would be one thing I would have changed about this one. Overall it was a quick fun read and I am sure many others would enjoy this one.
I erroneously assumed this would be a lighthearted romance or romantic comedy. Serves me right for judging a book by its cover. Love Sold Separately instead was about an actor-turned-amateur-sleuth, and I’m not sure how much I actually enjoyed it.
Dana is an actor bouncing between gigs when she gets fired from the local Hot Topic. Suddenly an amazing job opportunity is dropped into her lap, and before she knows it, she is the newest saleswoman on a television shopping channel. On her first day, as she is getting a tour of the building, she hears an ominous bang and quickly discovers the top superstar saleswoman has shot herself... or was she murdered? As events proceed, Dana bumblingly attempts to solve the mystery, getting in the way of police and interrupting the detective on the case with little tips and her hunches. I found Dana to be a bit annoying and feel in real life, she would have received a stern warning to back off and let the police do their job. Not a terrible book, but this doesn’t have me racing to want to read anything further by Ellen Meister.
Such a fun crime, mystery, and romance book! I have to admit, just by looking at the cover and briefly skimming the summary, I was expecting a little more romance, but I thoroughly enjoyed the murder mystery side nonetheless, especially that detective. I also found myself liking Dana, really in spite of her first day of work, and found her experiences to be entertaining overall. Again, I had no idea what to expect with this book but enjoyed it a lot!
I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Great plot! I love the pacing. It is very well written
Thank you kindly to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for this review copy.
I absolutely loved this story. What a unique idea. I love the backstory of her going to a home shopping channel and becoming the most popular host! The different characters were amazing- I loved Dana’s. best friend and all the assistants. It was a fun take on the behind the scenes at HSN.
I initially thought Love Sold Separately was going to be a light romance, but instead it was a very fun mystery! The narration was excellent and I enjoyed the story quite a lot!
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a fun, quick, easy read that completely took my mind off of the world around me. I enjoyed the plot but I felt like the characters chemistry lacked a little.
Love Sold Separately by Ellen Meister is an odd book.
While I liked the majourity of the characters, I could not stand the main character. She was just awful.
I thought the mystery was interesting, but it ended up being predicable.
I thought the pacing of the book was good though. Started off quick and kept up throughout.
I also found the cover a VERY odd choice for this book. The cover looks like a cute romantic comedy. Nothing about it screams mystery.
I received an eARC from Harlequin and MIRA through NetGalley. All opinions are 100% my own.
This one really didn't work for me. The main character is impossible to root for...she's just the worst! The plot was entertaining enough for a while but seemed to lose its way halfway through, and it lost me right along with it. I'm not sure I'll be reading any more from this author.
Meh. I really didn’t like the main character, and it’s hard for me to like the book if I don’t like the main character. I’d pass on this one if I were you.
This book was so-so for me. I had a really hard time liking the main character because she is so selfish and that makes it hard to actually care if she fails or succeeds at what she’s trying to do. The mystery part of the novel was well written and engaging but I think it could’ve used a bit more romance.

As Dana and a co-worker were up on the roof, they were the first ones to arrive at the scene. Her co-worker quickly becomes a suspect because of his criminal record however, she knows he’s innocent. As he’s a single father, to save his name she starts investigating the murder. Detective Ari Marks, does everything by the book, he’s harsh, demanding, and most importantly, he’s handsome.
Review: Looking at the cover, you would assume this is a romance book however, it’s more of a murder mystery with a hint of romance. The story was written well, the twists were great, and it was paced perfectly. I wasn’t a huge fan of Dana, she wasn’t the strongest character however, I did enjoy the remaining characters. The romance aspect was a fun twist! I couldn’t put this book down it was very entertaining!
Thank you Netgallery and Harlequin publishing for this ARC in exchange for an honest review, my apologies for the delay.
A little mystery, a little romance, and pretty fun, too! I've never read a book based in the world of home shopping networks, so the premise was extremely enjoyable, though Dana's character was a little annoying to me. The mystery was an added bonus, though that was a little predictable as well - all in all, a solidly fun quick read.
This was a fun mash-up of the cozy mystery and romance genres. My only complaint is that from the cover and blurb, it wasn't very apparent that this was a mystery. I think from a marketing level, it might have been better to clarify that.
