Kate is a police detective in Tallman Valley Australia working on the case of a young woman's murder. When she receives a call about 5 young children missing from a preschool picnic she goes to the scene to investigate. Shocked to learn that one of the 5 children is her granddaughter Ivy. Time goes by and the team of flying fox investigators (named after the preschool group of children) is losing faith that the children will be found alive.
Along with her investigations Kate is involved in some family issues with Ivy's mother Abby.

This book is a well written novel of mystery and suspense. Details are given about the area, investigations etc. but just enough so that the book does not become bogged down. I enjoyed the relationships between Kate and her family members and also her dealings with the rest of the police team. Numerous suspects are researched and interviewed to keep the suspense going until the end. I would highly recommend this novel to readers who enjoy who done it type books and I am looking forward to reading more about Kate.
