I gave this book 4/5 stars. It was witty, engaging, and just generally a fun read. It was a sequel to The Friend Zone, which I didn't really enjoy as much. I am anxious to read the next installment in this series!
This book needs to be reviewed in two separate parts.
The first half I loved, The witty banter between the characters was amazing and I loved seeing their relationship blossom. It gave me all the cute romcom feels,
The second half just didn't do it for me. I am not a huge rock star trope and didn't know this book would have that going in. I don't like when characters go on tour and are separated as it just leaves me bored. Jason also started to annoy me in this half with his unrealistic expectations.
I know a lot of people didn't like The Friend Zone, but I loved that book so I had high expectations for this one. I don't know if that is why it fell flat for me in the end, but I was a little disappointed.
Well I'm obviously going to have to buy this book now. Like today. As soon as I can get to a bookstore.
I finished The Friend Zone by Abby Jimenez just this morning and happened to see this preview on Netgalley. I haven't been able to put it down! Sloan is an instantly likable character; I need to know more about her Happily Ever After since my heart was ripped out on her behalf in The Friend Zone. Let's be real, the most important relationship in this book is obviously Sloan+Tucker=4EVA (and I'm not even a dog person)
I read the extended preview of this book and enjoyed it very much. Sloan is a young woman who is mourning her fiance. She is on her way to the cemetery when a dog runs out in front of her car. She brakes sharply and is terrified that she has hit the dog when it jumps on her hood and then into her car via the sunroof. She ends up taking the dog to the vet and then home with her, and begins to search for the owner. It takes a while, and meanwhile, she falls in love with the dog. The dog's owner finally gets in contact with her, and this begins what seems to be the start of a great love story. I've put this book on my book buy list.
My gosh, I went through the six chapters really quick! And the songs at the start of the chapters made me wonder if the audiobook would play out a snippet of the song (it would be awesome if it did).
Loved the flirting. I don’t usually like Insta love, but so far this didn’t feel trope-y. Loved the characters so far, nothing was cliche. The banter was smart and engaging, I wanted to know more. And the most important element, Tucker the dog! How could I not be captivated with and opening scene where a cute, gigantic dog leapt into the main character’s car?
I don’t really give romance books 5 stars, but this is shaping up to be the first candidate this year, depending on how the rest of the story unfolds. The first 6 chapters were top notch.
I know this was just a preview of the entire book but Abby Jimenez does no wrong! I absolutely adored The Friend Zone and am so excited to read the rest of Sloan's story. Like always, the humor is so spot on all while still showing the emotions of what Sloan is going through. I am already in love with Jason and cannot wait to see how the rest of the book ends!
This is like an appetizer that I couldn’t wait to read the rest. I was excited to get the book after reading this extended preview.
Abby Jimenez has done it again!! Another 5 star book. I love the characters and storylines of these books. They are ALL the feels!...relatable, witty, laugh out loud funny, and may cause a few tears. Do not miss out on a chance to read anything Abby writes! I cannot wait for book #3 and beyond to see what the next chapters hold.
Wow I loved this book! This is the second book by Abby Jimenez that I've read and going in I didn't know how I would feel about Sloan with someone new after the end of the Friend Zone. But boy did this book surprise me and Jason is definitely a new book boyfriend! He is so swoony. I loved how he showed Sloan how much he cared, not only through taking care of her but also how he sacrificed his only happiness for her sake. Jimenez did a great job of building their relationship. Although they didn't know each other for very long before starting to officially date, it was totally believable. They had great chemistry and I loved seeing them with each other's family and friends. Even the ending was everything I wanted and didn't even know it. Will recommend this to everyone!
This was such a great book! I was laughing, my heart was loving their love story, and then BREAKING for them and I was teary-eyed at the end.
Sloane and Jason’s meet-cute is adorable. A sweet dog who brings two people together? Yes! I also LOVED watching them get to know one another. I was smiling and laughing through their text banter and it was heart-warming that Jason fell for Sloane without ever seeing her.
One of my favorite aspects of the story was the open communication between Sloane and Jason, like an actual adult relationship should be. I always feel frustrated when MCs could solve their issues by talking, but they refuse and ignore one another. This was such a breath of fresh air. There were some bumps along the way, but they talked about the issues like adults, yay!
This was a little *too* much instant-love for me and I was a bit sad to see Sloane give up her passions so quickly, but in the end Jason has her best interests at heart and he proves to be one of the good ones (book boyfriend material for sure!).
Sooooo I think there was an opportunity to really like this book but I feel in the neutral. I really enjoy this story took on grief and loss especially at younger age. Sloan and Jason's relationship developed quickly which was swoon worthy. Jason was a cinnamon and read as a great partner. I think where the story felt a bit eh was the fact Jason made a lot of decisions in the name of love but didn't include Sloan in the process. This point made me uncomfortable. The last chapter sent me over the edge. However, Sloan's best friend Kristin made this book. She was direct, funny, and really cared about Sloan's well being. At a minimum, if you like musician and regular person love story then you may enjoy this book. Oh I also liked Lola's backstory. She was a side character Jason's "ex" but we got a bit of backstory to erratic behavior, she was being manipulated by her manager which resulted in alcoholism and drug use.
CW: drunk driving, death, drug abuse, cutting, alcoholism, and financial manipulation
I really enjoyed the Happy Ever After Playlist. It starts with a dog managing to jump into Sloan's car on Topanga Canyon. When she can't reach his owner, she figures she has a new best friend. But when Jason can finally get his phone messages, he disagrees.
I love well written characters and good banter. Sloan and Jason had that from the beginning. Because their relationship started by phone, it was never shallowly based on looks. The other characters were equally great. During an early conversation between Sloan and her best friend Kristen, I literally laughed out loud. Their conversation deeply resonated and felt exactly like the kinds of banter and teasing I have with my friends. I really liked that the perspective regularly switched between Sloan and Jason. The book starts with Sloan in a place of grief, and I felt like reading it helped me to process my own.
It was a great read through the end because I deeply cared about what happened next. Now I plan to go back and read The Friend Zone which Abby Jimenez wrote second but published first.
This was so good funny made me smile I have to read the whole book it's a must. It sucks you in and makes you hope that Jason and sloan become a couple.
LOVE this author & the characters. I love a sweet love story where you are reminded how it feels to be swept off your feet. Such a sweet story. Can’t wait to read another book from this author! 5 stars. You will not be disappointed!
I am really enjoying this story and the budding romance between Sloan and Jason. I will definitely be buying the book to see what happens. Well written and clever banter between the characters makes it easy to see why this has become such a popular book.
I picked up a finish copy finally and can’t wait to finish it! Will continue to read anything from Abby Jimenez
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review from NetGalley.
I know you're not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but this one really doesn't do it justice.
This book is a wonderful and smart romance. The characters are extremely likable and the story made me cry a few times. There are certainly some inconsistencies in the plot (what kind of dog can jump in a sun roof?) but it didn't ruin things for me. I highly recommend for those who like rom-coms and and women's lit in general. Another nice note is that each chapter is named after a song, with a full "playlist" at the end. I only wish we could hear Jaxon Waters music!
The extended preview of this book was so great! Here is my review. I can already tell that "The Happy Ever After Playlist" will be a book I will absolutely adore. I have heard so much buzz about "The Friend Zone" and this sequel, so I knew I would need to get my hands on both of these titles! I love that there is humor in this story, but there are also serious obstacles the main character needs to work through.
Sloan is still reeling from the loss of her fiancé two years prior, when a dog literally jumps into her car out of nowhere. Sloan eventually gets ahold of the dog's owner, Jason. I can't wait to see how their relationship will develop and how he will handle Sloan's previous heartbreak.
I can't wait to see how this story plays out. Thank you for the opportunity to share my honest feed back on this extended preview.
I’m so excited to read this now! This excerpt was amazing.
Fingers crossed I can get the copy to the next one in the series!
This preview was absolutely amazing! I cannot wait to read the full book. I absolutely love how abby Jimenez writes and can’t wait to read more books by her.
