A great book which encourages us to be brave and bold with our adventures an explorations. Aimed more at the solo travel, the book is filled with tips on how to make the most of travelling alone as well as staying safe.
Review run date was set for 28 April 2020 for Netgalley, unfortunately life stood at a standstill as I finished the final semester and three subjects of my studies. On 28 March 2021 I was set to write the review and my health became an emotional roller coaster so here I am today 04 October 2021 going to write my review will be post on my blog, Facebook blog, Amazon.com.au, goodreads, kobo, googlebooks and iBooks.
An ideal book for readers who are inspired to go by themselves to travel to their unknown destinations. A tourist style narrative that is between a guidebook and travel guide. As you read through the chapters you will learn how to create your itinerary, budget and how to pack appropriately for your chosen destination.

This was an ok read. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't what I expected and seemed like a discombobulated combination of travel, biography, and faith.
This book is fantastic! I am a single woman about to turn 30 in a few months, I've never been very interested in traveling, and honestly I'm still not, but recently I've come to the realization that I really want to step outside my comfort zone and experience life to the fullest, especially in the aspects that I've previously been either too afraid to try or just never made a priority. And, while I still don't think that long distance travel is going to be my jam, this book has given me the confidence and inspiration to try something new, go out and experience an adventure right where I am, and dream like a child again! This book is exactly what I need at this point in my life, and in so many ways it felt like it had been written just for me! I think women of all ages, single and married, travelers and non-travelers alike can get so much from this book! I highly recommend this book! I loved, loved, LOVED it!
I received an ebook copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley and also purchased an audiobook copy which Rachel narrates fabulously! My review was not influenced in any way. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.
This was a nice short read. Dream, plan, and go is about getting out of your comfort zone and trying new things and seeing new sights. It's about not waiting on others to do the things you want to do, and not being afraid to do things and travel alone. It was very inspiring and made me want to travel more and go out and explore my own city (which I haven't done enough of). I do wish it had gone more into talking specifically about different places and sights to see in those places. Overall I'd recommend this to any woman wanting to travel!
This is a fuddy duddy, breezy book which is okay at best. Nothing special to buy or read.
Thanks to the publisher for the ARC.
Title: Dream Plan Go: A Travel Guide to Inspire Your Independent Adventure
Author: Rachel McMillan
Chapters: 11
Pages: 224
Genre: Travel
Rating: 5 Stars
Publisher: Harvest House Publisher
This travel book from Rachel McMillan is awesome. It’s a book that as a single woman in my 30s didn’t know that I needed. Her book is geared towards single female travel and includes even traveling in your own backyard.
But what stood out to me the most was the whole don’t wait for Prince Charming to take that dream trip. If you really want to go it’s alright to go by yourself or with friends.
This book has me wanting to plan my first solo trip as soon as it’s safe to travel again. I mean I’ve taken “road trips” by myself but those were just either driving to pick my sister up from school or driving back home after dropping her off.
I recommend this book to anyone who’s dreamed of traveling solo but didn’t know where to start. All I can say is let Rachel be tour guide.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine alone.
Dream, Plan, & Go by Rachel McMillan is a delightful book full of anecdotes to inspire your independent adventures! I was already a fan of this author's fiction novels and I was excited to read this nonfiction from her. It is a treasure! Ms McMillan writes nonfiction with the same amount of light and exuberance that I adore in her fiction. Reading this book in the middle of a pandemic-- even if I may not be traveling anywhere anytime soon, I find this book more relevant now than ever. It opens up new worlds and possibilities that I will be noting for the future. In some ways, she brings the world to you, and this is needed now more than ever. I adored this book and this you will too, whether you are single or married, old or young. It is a delight. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
Have you been holding out on a trip of a lifetime because you have no one to go with? In Dream, Plan and Go, Rachel McMillan encourages would-be travelers to stop waiting and go find their adventure.
Whether in your city or across the world, McMillan shares hints, tips, and personal stories to help you gain the confidence to travel—by yourself or with someone else. I enjoyed the author’s stories and took heart in her encouragement to embrace adventure no matter what stage in life we are at.
The book is filled with wonderful illustrations that made me smile and places to take notes (plus there’s even a journal you can purchase to delve even into your travels when you do go). For me, the best books are the ones that either drive me to action or leave me thinking, and after reading this one, I considered all the trips I’ve been holding off on. And it drove me to research a couple of those and start planning to go and experience my own adventure.
Disclosure statement: I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Thanks to Harvest House Publishers for the ARC!
This book really makes me wanna travel, which isn't something I can do now due to the current world situation. But reading about Rachel's adventures somehow made me travel in my mind, which I'm thankful for.
The author inspires us to go after our dreams and to enjoy spending time by ourselves. She tells several stories about the trips she took alone, the people she met on her adventures, the things she was able to enjoy in a better way because she was making her own plans, etc. And, my favorite part, many tips and words of encouragement for women who never traveled alone because they're afraid of being assaulted.
It also brings a few questions, so you can write your thoughts and reflect upon the things you want for yourself.
It's also important to tell that living an adventure doesn't necessarily mean that you need to travel very far. You can start small, by going to the movies alone, or going to a restaurant in your own town alone... Just enjoy your own company. Don't miss any opportunities in your life just because you can't take someone with you. If you wanna meet that city, if you wanna know more about that culture... Dream, plan and go! Don't wait. Don't give up.
I recommend this read to everyone. :)
Thanks NetGalley and Harvest House Publishers for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
"Dream, Plan, and Go" by Rachel McMillan is an awesome traveling resource for women contemplating travel on their own. McMillan gives writing prompts and checklists to empower people to travel with better planning and less fear.
This book was such a fun short read! McMillan is full of fun stories and travel knowledge that makes this book inspirational. By sharing her own tips and tricks, she creates an environment that welcomes traveling and exploring, even if it's in an area close to home.
I enjoyed this book a lot and gave it 4 stars. I feel like once we begin traveling more with the military it will be a fun resource to use again and again!
This book seems to be more self-help than travel. The book focuses on the fact that it is okay to travel alone by highlighting solo trips of the author. McMillan does provide some travel advice at the end of each section, but it is all pretty obvious. If you have never traveled alone or feel uncomfortable going to a movie by yourself this is a good choice. If you are looking for advice on how to plan trips there are better options.
3.5 stars
For the woman who desires to travel, but has obstacles in the way: no one to travel with, fear, overwhelmed with decisions--McMillan's book is perfect for you. The author gives details that make travel, especially solo travel, seem both enticing and approachable to anyone.
The chapters walk the reader through step by step ideas and planning, balanced with vignettes from McMillan's own journeys to provide inspiration. At the end of each chapter, there are questions for the reader to answer that will help to narrow focus and jump start planning your own vacation to a place you might have only thought possible in your dreams. This book will help you turn those travel dreams into reality.
Some of the tips are very basic and might seem as if she's telling you something you already know. Yet these sections are easily skipped over for seasoned travelers, and the author's stories about safety and her safety tips are worth the price of the book to help alleviate fear and empower women to travel safely all over the world.
Encourages you to live your dreams and not be held back by self-doubt. There’s a whole world out there for the taking. This book is a great first step in taking that leap.
From a well-traveled author with a charming voice comes a book for women seeking independent adventure, both near and far, with a call to pursue our dreams at any stage in life.
I’ve been a big fan of McMillan’s for a few years now. I love her historical mysteries and her contemporary romances with her unique voice that breathes new life into intriguing eras and gilded settings. Having read of her passion for travel, I knew this book would be filled with fantastic travel stories that would have me itching to pack my bags and set off for some foreign and alluring city. I was not disappointed. Dream, Plan, and Go recounts several of McMillan’s personal trips about the world, detailing fabulous locations from her unique point of view. Her loving prose makes the reader feel as though they’ve been to these places even if they’ve never set foot in them. Dispersed throughout the book are tips on solo travel that would come in handy for anyone planning a trip.
And while the anecdotes of traipsing through places like Vienna, Brussels, and Paris will have you reaching for your passport, Dream, Plan, and Go delves deeper than planning out travels. It’s about learning to enjoy yourself and to find adventure wherever you are–whether you travel to the other side of the world or spend an afternoon in your own neighborhood.
Romance can be found in a concert by a local orchestra, in the first bite of dessert at a bakery, or in an evening ramble along the boardwalk during a summer fair.
Many of the messages conveyed throughout the book can be applied to not only travel, but to just about anything in life. The idea that as women, we should never feel we have to shelve our dreams can apply to so many things; whether it’s travel, pursuing a degree in a field we love, taking up a hobby that has been calling our name, going for our dream-job, or starting over in a new city we feel our heart belongs in, we can do these things–and should do these things! A consistent theme throughout the book is that if romance happens, great; if it doesn’t happen, great. You can live your life with or without someone. This is a personal philosophy of mine and I love seeing it portrayed in books.
Dream, Plan, and Go is a book that I think every woman should read. It’s the perfect book for those looking for travel inspiration, or someone just looking for a light, fun read to while away an afternoon.

Thank you NetGalley and publishers for an ARC of this book.
McMillian is a world traveler and this book is inspired by her travels. I loved thus book and all it offered. It reminded of Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert ,however, McMillian is more of a how to and advice book for other women to journey alone. Traveling alone creates a new sense of self and revitalizes ones confidence. McMillan gives tips and tricks and although she travels to wondrous places, she makes traveling alone as simple as visiting a new restaurant on your own.
A great, fun, and enjoyable read!
Next to reading, travelling is one of my favourite things!. I travelled alone before, so was curious about this book hints and ideas.
Since I solo travelled in the past, there wasn’t much that came as new to me, but it had good ideas about solo trips. I liked that there were parts you could fill in yourself.
If you want to give solo travelling a try for the first time, but aren’t sure of how to proceed, I’d recommend this book!
I love traveling. And I have been very into the aspect of solo-traveling. I have only been to Oslo this one time all by myself, but I felt a bit awkward while doing it. So I was wondering whether this book could inspire me to be less awkward and scared to travel alone. Well, after reading, I am still scared to travel alone, but I do feel more inspired.
The layout of the book was adorable! Lots of cute doodles and there were also fill-in sections! And I loved the personal stories and what Rachel McMillan experienced during her travels around the world. I liked the fact that there were quite a few sections about Vienna, and I am also a big lover of the city, so that was a nice and relatable.
All in all, definitely a cute book to read if you feel like you want to solo-travel in the future. It comes with heaps of tips and ideas what to do and how to do it, including packing tips! A quick and fun read!
What a pleasant surprise this book was for me! In addition to a guidebook on how to travel, the questions provided a neat learning experience, which I wasn't expecting. I've finished this book with some great ideas and also got to know myself a bit better than when I started reading. Thanks so much!
I adored this frothy travel book- it's addressed mostly to single women and encourages them to travel alone, but also has advice and tips for women with families. It's an upbeat and charming look at a number of countries the Canadian author has visited, interspersed with wisdom and tidbits to help you pick and plan a beautiful trip - whether that's in town or across the world. While the tone is very conversational, I really loved several passages that felt empowering and meaningful: this is exactly the pep talk I'd want from my best friend before I got on a plane. Highly recommended for any woman who wants to take the next step but needs a nudge in the right direction!
Example passages (text may change before final publication! I read an e-arc from NetGalley):
"Human connection is wonderful; so are friendships and romantic relationships. But we don't often cultivate nor are we taught being alone. ...It's okay to acknowledge that you want to get to know yourself as well as you know your family and friends."
"No metric determines one act of bravery is braver than another; its worth is dependent on each person and each act of daring. Whatever is brave for you is enough."
"I'm not suggesting we sacrifice responsibility to family. Nor am I suggesting that we throw off everything in our lives and reroute to the edge of the world. I'm just hoping that we all find reasonable ways to carve out time to treasure ourselves."
