This is a cute and simple graphic novel. I liked the story of "Rascal," but there wasn't much to it or the art.
I did not enjoy this graphic novel as much as I thought I would. Probably because the mother decided to mail the cat to her daughter who did not want a cat. I think that just put a damper on the rest of the book for me.
However, if you can get past that, the story is very cute. The cat is, what the title suggests, a little rascal that gets into trouble at every turn but the real story is the relationship starting between the cat and the woman.
I think many cat owners can relate to the ups and downs of the relationship.
There can certainly be a case for saying there are too many comic books about the truth of life with cats, but this one might be one of the better ones. It doesn't exaggerate things for comic effect, but gets it right by portraying their natural tendencies – to sit in inappropriate places, ask for things at inappropriate times and so on. There is too much of our human here being inappropriately bitten, though, so some can repeat itself when stating the obvious, but all cat-owners will see this is as pretty recognisable.
Oh, to be a little black cat in Jean-Luc Deglin’s comics.
Anyone with a cat will relate to Deglin’s whimsical non-sequitur comics, which features our main character and her cat, the titular Rascal, who she unwillingly inherited from a recently-deceased neighbour.
All readers, whether cat parents or not, will be equally charmed and appalled by Rascal’s behaviour. But Deglin’s art style has us, as well as the main character, unable to resist Rascal’s big eyes and skinny frame, even as he tears apart another houseplant.
Drawn with simple lines in black, white, and shades of blue, Deglin’s book is a light read for a rainy day, and would make a sweet gift to a cat owner.
Rascal is a cute, quick read that any pet lover will enjoy. The mischievousness of Rascal will, no doubt, be familiar to any cat owner. I especially enjoyed the illustrations. The expressiveness of the cat was quite funny. Overall, a quick, enjoyable comic that I was glad I took a chance on.
A woman gets a package from her mom with a cat in it. She's only supposed to watch the cat while her neighbor's away, but it turns into a life time commitment.
This was a really cute collection of comics. It's a quick read, but it's a lot of fun. One of my favorite parts is when Rascal seems themselves as another animal like a lion stalking its prey. I really enjoyed this one and I think cat lovers especially will love it.
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!
This was very cute. I think the author/illustrator did a great job of communicating the personality of this cat. I especially liked the illustrations.
Edit: I just discovered there are graphics that apparently did not appear when I read this. I guess I'll have to attempt it again.
I love books about cats, but I'm not sure what I just read. It was a different yet interesting format. If that was the entire book there didn't seem to be much of a storyline. In my opinion, you have to infer a lot on what's taking place.

Adorable cat? Check
Real-life cat situations? Check.
An owner who both loves and hates her cat? Check.
This graphic novel is too cute and so real. I have a little black demon cat, and this might as well have been written about it.
A young woman receives a package from her mother, containing a kitten belonging to an acquaintance. WHO PUTS A KITTEN IN THE MAIL??? But then the acquaintance dies, so she's stuck with a cat she never really wanted but ends up loving anyway.
This book captures the essence of cats perfectly. They stick their butts in your face, play with cardboard instead of the toys you buy them, run around like they are possessed by demons, and track litter through every single inch of your house. Then they do a 180 turnabout and cuddle when you're sad and become a friend, albeit an evil one.
This graphic novel is purr-fect for cat lovers.
This book was so relatable as a cat owner! Each page can stand on its own but works so much better when you read them all as cohesive story.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this book in exchange for an honest review.
Cute, quick read about a cat who wins over his reluctant new "mom". I hope the 2nd book in the series will be translated to English and available on NetGalley.
I loved this graphic novel! The simple color palette was really appealing, along with the illustrations overall. As a new kitten owner, I could completely relate to this story! Any cat owner or animal lover is sure to enjoy this one!
It was adorable! The joys and interruptions of having a cat for a pet. I wish there was more to it but the artwork compensated for it. I found it humorous and enjoyable at the same time. Just all relatable situations of pet ownership.
"Rascal" is a short story about a woman who is left a small kitten and the mischief the kitten gets into. The kitten quickly wins the woman's heart. It was a quick, cute read for cat fans!

"Rascal" was a super cute graphic novel! The art style was simplistic but endearing and gave off a cutesy vibe. The panels were simple but humorous and really captured the author's distress and delight in her new furry friend. I think it was a little on the short side for something so universal to work with but maybe that means we'll get another helping of Rascal in the future!
I think this is suitable for all ages and would be appropriate for any library's graphic novel collection.
Rascal has to be one of the cutest and most endearing graphic novels I’ve read in quite some time. This is the story of one artist, and their cat…and all of the chaos and love that ensues from that unexpected bond.
Written and illustrated by Jean-Luc Deglin, this is the story of how their life was changed when one fluffy little menace entered their world. This little menace goes by the name Rascal, and boy did they ever earn that name!
The humor in this graphic novel is amazing, and will ring true for any cat owners out there. Especially those that have owned a feisty cat full of life and a love for sneak attacks and mayhem. Even if you haven’t been graced by a cat with attitude, this whole book will make you smile and laugh from start to finish.
Deglin’s artwork is charming, especially thanks to the specific subject matter. It’s clear that they adore their cat, as that translates through in each little comic and moment. It’s endearing to read, full of humor and love. And I for one am so glad to have had the opportunity to read it. Thanks for all the smiles.
An enjoyable and accurate account of life with a cat. Many of the pages made me laugh out loud at how my cat does the exact same thing. A must for every cat lover!
Rascal is the story of a girl who ends up with a cat. While she was gone her mom delivered a cat. It was originally published in French and is set up like a comic strip. Each page is four panels with a different thing the cat does. Besides the beginning which introduces the cat they could be read out of order. Which means if you have to put the book down and walk away you can without messing up the flow of the story. That being said I did not want to put it down. It was that good.
As I sit here typing my review and listening to my cats scream for attention in the other room I remember more and more of the book. Here is one scene where the cat is sleeping on her lap and she needs to get up. After trying to move the cat she decides what she needed to do just really wasn't that important. That happened to me twice TODAY. Everything about this book makes it a must own for anyone who loves cats.
The art is simple and so is the dialogue, but it is the perfect gift for any cat lover.

A cute graphic novel about a women coming into possession of a cat and their growing bond. Don't get me wrong, I love animals but to be honest I've never really been a cat person. My family had cats growing up so I recognised a lot of these feline behaviours and I think that the author captured that well in both the text and the illustrations.
The illustrations were my favourite part of the book. I loved the cartoon style and the simple use of black, blue and white. However, this isn't something that I personally enjoyed that much. I know a lot of people would love this but it just wasn't for me.
2 out of 5 stars!
This is a cute comic about a cat and its owner. A young woman gets a mysterious package and is stuck with a new pet cat even though she doesn't want to. Her new kitten is quite the handful and the young lady doesn't warm upto him at first. The comic shows the budding friendship between a new pet owner and the pet. There's very little dialogue and more conveyed through panels. The different cat poses are enough to make you love the book. However, the book is limited to these cat poses and daily life of the owner-cat duo. There isn't a bigger plot. So I'd recommend the book for cat parents who want to see their day-to-day life in comic strips and go 'That's relateable'.
This is an ideal gift for a cat lover because it has all antics of the feline immortalized as art. The claws, scratches everywhere, spoilt winter clothes, the arrogance, being fussy, not moving when the lady has to work, the cuddles and hugs (and scratches again). A cute book.
