I enjoyed this story of Willa and Grady. Grady is a fire jumper and Willa is a Business owner. They both have to tame their own demons to fall in love.

This was my first time reading this author, but I was pleasantly surprised by how well she weaves a story. She managed to make me truly dislike Willa, then sympathize and empathize with her, then want to cry for her, then finally like her. As for Grady, he was easier to like. He may have been financially immature, but his determination to be kept around by Willa proved that he could and would step up when necessary. Willa and her inability to ease up on the quest for success and security made me think that there was something deeper going on, and learning about her past made everything click. She would never be my favorite character, but she was incredibly real. And once she and Grady finally got on the same page, it was nothing but happiness and smooth sailing. They definitely both fought for their HEA, and the hard work they both put into both the relationship and life in general made them truly deserve it.

I've been reading Tawna Fenske for a long time, but this is my least favorite book by her. I just could not connect with Willa, the heroine, at all. I got where she was coming from and I understood her need to control her life, but her over the top neurotic behavior was a huge turn off for me. Grady, the hero, was sweet and kind and I loved that as he slowly peeled back her layers he understood her reasoning behind her workaholic tendencies. I also understood his aloofness to not planning for the future, given his job he just wanted to live in the moment. I think they were good for one another in that respect, but overall I just had a very hard time with their relationship and seeing them work out in the long run. This one was a struggle for me to finish. It wasn't for me, but that doesn't mean others won't love it.

Spectacular start to a new series! Come meet Grady and Willa, and the rest of the smokejumper crew and good grief I hope they all get their own books!
Willa is one stressed out woman, she operates on overdrive every moment of the day. She'll date, but has a two date rule. No more. Anymore means involvement and she doesn't have time for that, she's too busy working herself to the bone and worrying about money. Her backstory fills in those details with a father who is still hitting her up for money and her caving in and giving it to him.
Grady is a smokejumper, comes from a large family of the same, father and his brothers are all involved in some sort of firefighting. You get great insight into that life reading this story. Grady is now stationed with the local crew in their town in Oregon, always on call and can be gone for however long it takes. When he meets Willa and finds out about her two date rule, he contrives things to do with her that aren't "dates" and pretty much lures her out of her routine. Provides the reassurance that she doesn't have to always be "on." Willa's problem is that Grady isn't a planner, he has no idea what he'll do when he retires and doesn't have a plan in place. He's never needed one. Until he meets Willa. One of my favorite scenes is when Grady takes Willa home to his parents for the weekly Saturday dinner and she gets full on the chaos of growing up in a family of 10 children, now with their spouses as well as kids and his parents. It was organized chaos and I loved it. Willa finally feels like she belongs to a family and what that normal life is like. She likes it. Scratch that, she loves it.
While Grady is getting Willa to loosen up and their relationship goes to the next level the two hit a major snag. Willa looses her proverbial sh** and Willa retreats back into her safe place, but not before a few choice words were slung by both.
How will these two opposites ever work? Can Willa learn to relax and let go? Can Grady find a way for himself that includes Willa? Damn good questions. Damn good book! Yes you should read this book.
I love Tawna, she's the bomb when it comes to writing stellar characters and tight plots. Oh to get a glimpse inside her head, what I wouldn't give!

A delightful, funny and romantic story that also has its dose of drama but it's still full of heart.
We have some really good characters, I specially loved Grady but Willa
was also likable; both have their issues they will need to face and resolve but both are very likable and the chemistry between is undeniable. I love watching how their relationship developed and you're in for some very funny moments but more than anything you're in for a well written and engaging story. I really hope there's more and I will be looking forward to more books if that's the case.
Absolutely recommendable.

Willa and Grady are such a match - neither looking for commitment and both fascinated with each other. I loved Willa's two-date rule and the lengths that Grady goes to to bypass that rule by his non-dates. The author did a good job of making laughable moments in their interactions and it made the characters more believable and honest in their reactions to each other and their situations. Willa is such a stickler for her schedule and is a regular workaholic so it's all pretty funny when she is glued to her electronic devices and can't seem to turn off that work mode.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the author - one that I haven't had the pleasure of reading before. I received a free ARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest review and I'm pleased to experience a new author that I want to read more from.

Good but Willa is not my favorite...3.5 stars
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The author gives us a bit of a different look at the two date rule. I’ve read similar stories and it’s usually the guy who has a restriction on dates. It usually isn’t just two.
The story surrounds an overachiever who is fiercely neurotic when it comes to money and working due to her upbringing. Because of that she had installed a two date rule while never allowing herself to enjoy life.
But then she met the right guy in Grady and together they found ways around her silly rules and rigid work and life structure.
While this could’ve been a heavy story across the board, the author did institute fun and lightness around her rule and eventually Willa let her guard down and began to enjoy her non-dates with Grady.
Unfortunately Willa was not my favorite character but Grady certainly brought so much to the story. He broke down her walls and truly cared for her and her feelings. Plus, he knew how to turn it up in the bedroom. I just loved him and his character made this story for me.
The story is a fun and unique read with sizzle and emotionally charged characters. Overall a good read.
I enjoyed reading how Willa and Grady fall for each other. Their first meeting had me chuckling. These two help each other work through some issues each of them are facing and give the other one the courage to face their past and their furture. This story is cute and fun. It is and enjoyable light hearted read for me.
Absolutely loved this story. It was so cool to be on their journey of how not to make a date a date. 😊. These 2 both needed the journey of self discovery to know how truly meant for each other they were. Tawna is one of my favorites and an amazing story teller. This is one where once you pick it up you won’t want to put it down.
Willa could have easily been so standoffish. Given her tumultuous childhood, her need to always chase the next client to find financial stability and working from home behind her computer, she could easily be a socially awkward nerd hermit. Instead, she's a good friend and a fun date despite her isolationist tendencies. Her interactions with Grady are fun and heartwarming. He's obviously enthralled. His career and her disenchantment with the idea of romantic love have the two convinced they don't need or want relationships. Willa has instituted the two-date rule. Grady's extremely dangerous job keeps him travelling all the time so he's got no inclination or time for dating either.
From their meet-cute and first date, the two are so drawn together that they can't stop seeing each other but to stay in their comfort zones they don't call they subsequent encounters dates. It's comical and only fools them. The rest of us can see right through them.
Their families provide additional stressors, insight and add depth to the book.
Willa and Grady were relatable and entertaining and their story touching and sweet with just enough tension to make it that much more interesting. I enjoyed the book and their story.
3.5 Too Cute Stars
This has all the cuteness promised from the blurb. We have a career-driven woman who has created a personal rule of not dating the same person more than two times. She has used this concept for a while and it has worked.
Until she crosses dating path with a very hot, fun FireJumper...Had the fantastic first date-Done
Ended up doing another date...
But that wasn't the end...
The fella was smart enough to have our gal do other things with him and just not call them Dates!
Very fun read
I was very fortunate to receive an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Willa and Grady - oh the ups and downs! Such drama between what you want and what you feel like you must do. Unfortunately for Grady, Willa’s parents have really screwed her up for a future spouse. Grady’s major flaw is his job/work schedule and his “live life to its fullest” attitude.
The author does a great job delving into the hearts and heads of these characters to provide the reader with an enjoyable read. You definitely need to give this story a try!
The Two-Date Rule is the first book in the Smokejumper series and tells the story of Willa and Grady.
The Two-Date Rule is the first book I’ve read by Tawna Fenske and won’t be the last one! I really enjoyed reading the story of Willa and Grady, it was such an enjoyable Romance read! I couldn’t stop smiling the entire time I was reading this book.
Willa is this weird woman who doesn’t date guys, she just goes on two dates and that’s it. Her work is important for her, and that’s what I really like about her. When she meets Grady, everything changes. Grady is a hot smokejumper who’s kind of a hero and he’s just perfect for Willa! And he doesn’t do two dates…
The Two-Date Rule was such a fun and amazing Romance read and I couldn’t put it down. It’s such a fast paced read and I will definitely be reading some more books by Tawna Fenske. I’m really excited for the next book in the Smokejumper series!
The Two-Date Rule by the awesome Rom-Com author, Tawna Fenske, will have you literally laughing out loud!
Hot smokejumper, Grady Billman, AKA Smokey the Bare, is mistaken for a stripper, but earns a date in the process…a first date to be exact…the first of a maximum of two dates, according to Willa Frank’s rule. She cannot afford for anything to distract her from her business...but does bowling with friends count as a date? or hiking? or going to watch a band play?
“If you apologize one more time for calling me a stripper, I’m going to start taking my clothes off in the parking lot while I sing ‘I’m a Little Teapot’ at the top of my lungs.”
I love everything about this one! The absolutely hilarious storyline, the perfection of the characters, their backstories, and all of the feels wrapped up in this! There are a rollercoaster of emotions! I praise (and may be slightly envious of) author Tawna Fenske for all of the first hand research she did before writing this. It brought a deeper depth and admiration to the smokejumper characters. I totally recommend this!
the Two-date Rule had me smiling from the beginning. I loved Grady and Willa as a no -couple. They had an easy friendship which helped them grow into more.
While I truly liked the book there was a storyline that I didn't think was necessary. I think it took away from this couple and added more unnecessary drama than what was needed
I really enjoy Fenske’s books and while I liked this one it won’t rank with my favorites by her. Willa has a rule that she only goes on two dates with a guy before she is done. Kind of a ridiculous number but she is commitment phobic and needs to feel in control of her life and career at all times. Grady is a smoke jumper and also the leader singer of a band composed of all smoke jumpers (you better believe I rolled my eyes at that. Cuz smoke jumper wasn’t enough on its own?). He comes from a big family and lives in the moment without worrying about the future. When the two meet they both think some no-strings fun together will be enough but will two dates be enough? Or three? Or four?
I liked both Willa and Grady and the complex personal histories they brought to the table. I thought some aspects of the story were over the top and some things were brought up in the story but just disappear, like Grady’s love of baking and dream of opening his own bakery. Overall a pleasant story that was definitely worth reading.
Willa Frank mistakes Grady Billman for a stripper at a local watering hole and immediately propisitons him. What starts out as an innocent enough mistake turns into various ways to get around the fact that neither of them are seemingly interested in a long term relationship, Willa's two date only rule. The creative excuses each come up with to avoid calling time spent together are funny. However it's not all fun and games as Willa has serious anxiety/abandonment issues and Grady is not too keen at facing/preparing for the future. I really enjoyed reading this book and the great advice friends and family gave to the couple as they finally realize how much they really love each other.
The Two Date Rule by Tawna Fenske a read that you would give five dates for. Willa Frank is a complex character with a history that makes you understand her and feel for her. I identified with Willa so much, it scared me, but seeing her story unfold just made me. Grady Billman mmm I can almost smell the campfire as he is described. We all need a Grady in our lives, he probably wouldn’t last long, but oohh it would be warm. This was a delicious story and the ideas for the non-dates made me smile, this was a great story about how life isn’t black and white but its shades of fire.
I really enjoyed this book.
Two commitment phobic individuals meet and realize that they are interested in each other. However, they both have rules that they live by. However, rules were meant to be broken or at least bent, right??
Grady was a fun character to read about. He comes from a large family and really isn't a planner. He knows that he should start being he has a demanding and dangerous job but he prefers to live in the here and now.
Willa is the complete opposite. She is someone who needs a plan and her plans have plans of their own. She is always thinking about the future and questioning every decision she makes on how it will impact that.
The banter and sexy times were off the charts. The thing I loved most though was how they were what each other needed. Grady needed to make a few plans and Willa needed to decompress from time to time.
It was cute how ridiculous the excuses they would come up with for it "not" being a date. I also LOVED their first meeting and how an assumption was made and how this individual handled it.
