For quite some time I have been saying that paranormal romance isn’t something I read very much of. But after reading Crave by Tracy Wolff, I think I’m going to have to change my stance on that particular issue! I mean, I loved all the Twilight books (and movies), but beyond that and maybe one other vampire series I fell into by a bit of an accident, I didn’t read much paranormal at all. But a friend of mine mentioned this book since I informed her that I had never been Team Jacob. She thought I would love Crave based on that information, so I jumped right on into this book. And despite the fact that it ends with a cliffhanger, (and I really hate those!) my friend was NOT wrong!

Grace has lost everything that matters. Her parents. Her school. Her normal. Her uncle has brought her to Katmere Academy to live and to finish high school. Just a short while after arriving, she begins to notice some very strange things. And she also notices Jaxon Vega. Tall. Dark. Very mysterious. In a place that is more that it seems, will Grace be able to survive?

NICUnurse’s Rating: This book is more than just another vampire book. Or shifter book. Just like Katmere Academy is more than your average boarding school for the elite. And just when you think you’ve figured it all out…you realize you haven’t even come close! As much as I didn’t want to be sucked in by this book, by chapter 3 there was no turning back. I devoured this sucker in 2 days! (And had it been a shorter book, I would have finished in one day!) I had never read a book by Tracy Wolff before so I wasn’t sure what I was getting into, but I’m glad I didn’t doubt my friend’s recommendation. I could describe this book in one word: addictive! But beware…there is a huge cliffhanger at the end. And now, I can’t wait for book two! So let me end this by saying, even if you’re not a paranormal romance superfan and kind of dabble in it like I used to, this is one book you are definitely going to want to dive into. And if you are a paranormal romance lover, this book will more than satisfy you.

I give Crave by Tracy Wolff 5 out of 5 stars!

A thrilling, entrancing new read that’ll leave you craving more! I loved the charm and mystery of the story and the magnetic chemistry between the main characters. The academy setting and mix of students provided an interesting backdrop and I absolutely loved Macy’s character. The story starts slow and I had to push through several chapters, but once Grace reached the academy and more characters were introduced, it picked right up. I did have some Twilight vibes but found the relationship and story within Crave more positive and likeable. The silly, cheesy jokes were one of my favorite parts and I found them delightfully entertaining. Wolff has a natural humor and easiness in her writing and conveys the characters’ emotional experiences to the reader expertly. I felt their emotions firsthand which made for a deeper reading experience for me. The ending was full of excitement, tension, and twists and I can’t wait for more! If you love vampires and/or academy settings, I recommend giving this a try.

Crave is the first installment in a new young adult fantasy series that revolves around a young girl whose whole life has changed in any different ways and I had such a great time with it too. I will warn you though, it is a long book but so worth it.

Grace just recently lost both of her parents to an accident and her uncle and cousin have offered to take her in and allow her to attend the boarding school where he is the head master. But, Katmere Academy is a lot more than just a boarding school, it is a school for the supernatural. But Grace is completely unaware of this and the world she is stepping into.

Grace was such a strong young woman. Yes, she had some insecurities and who wouldn’t after what she’s been through. She’s lost her parents. Moved to a remote part of Alaska and being a California girl, this is a big change for her. She’s found herself at a new school with all new and different people. Just how different is what she soon finds out though. Her first few days are filled with one incident after another, from being cornered by two guys and saved by another to falling out a tree and falling chandeliers. Needless to say, the first days at her new school are adventurous and full of danger. Enter Jaxon. He’s mysterious and kinda standoffish but they are drawn to each other, she just doesn’t understand why, but she soon learns why.

This had such a great cast of characters. I really adored Grace from the start. She’s been through so much and my heart went out to her. Grace’s uncle Finn was so caring and her cousin Macy was always there for her, dressing her up and having to meet new friends. Jaxon and his group of friends were a little more mysterious but certainly interesting. And then there is Flint, her first friend she made. He’s was pretty great too. But then there were a few that seemed nice as far as Grace was concerned but they also seemed a little too nice which begs the question, why…

There is an oblivious attraction between Grace and Jaxon but it seemed that whenever they were together something always happened to Grace and Jaxon was determined to figure out why and who was behind all the attacks on Grace. And there was no shortage of suspects, from the witches, the werewolves and dragons but the bigger question was why were they after Grace in the first place. The big reveal towards the end of the who and why was not what I was thinking at all but wow was it fantastic! But then there was a twist right at the end that I was shocked to have happen and now I am left wanting book 2 to find out what happens next!

Wolff wrote such an amazing world with characters that make you care for them and the school itself seemed to come alive with the dark architecture and atmosphere it gave off. But at the center of it all was Grace and Jaxon and the connection they had. I can’t wait to get my hand on the next installment.

CRAVE is a really engaging new YA fantasy/paranormal romance that follows Grace in the first person. Grace lost her parents in a horrible car accident a month earlier, and she is now coming to Alaska to live with her uncle and cousin. Her uncle runs the mysterious Katmere Academy in the mountains. When Grace arrives, she notices everyone staring at her. Adding to that, the hot popular boy warns her that people are dangerous and she should leave.

As things happen around her, resulting in a lot of unexpected injuries, Grace begins to realize that there is something different about the academy and its students. She finds herself most intrigued by Jaxon, the boy who is always warning her to stay away but seems to be drawing her closer.

As hinted in the description and advertising, we learn halfway through that Jaxon is a vampire. However, what vampires mean and the conditions of other students are to be learned.

What I loved: The book easily draws you in from the start with all the mystery and snark. This book could take a really dark tone, but it stays light with all the humor and sarcasm. It is very tongue-in-cheek at times; for example, Jaxon sends Grace a copy of Twilight when he is warning her off. There are some more complex power dynamics at play here with the roles of staff/students and how all the people in this paranormal world function/relate. I assume this will be expanded in future books, and I really liked the flair. The first half and then the ending were absolutely fantastic- I was completely engrossed, and I loved the twists at the end. You know something is coming, but it was unexpected, and I loved the way the typical roles were switched (when you read it, you'll get what I mean).

What left me wanting more: The second half of the book turns into a big push-pull instalove drama, and I would have liked a lighter version of that. We do see them interact, but it's very Spiderman-style (in the I-love-you-but-it's-too-dangerous-for-you-to-be-with-me). However, it definitely felt like some Twilight-style flair/angst, which will appeal to many audiences.

Final verdict: Overall, this is a really engrossing and snarky YA paranormal/fantasy romance with a premise that has a ton of potential. I would definitely be interested to see how this develops (particularly given those twists and cliffhanger at the end). Highly recommend for fans of TWILIGHT and VAMPIRE DIARIES.

Please note that I received an ARC. All opinions are my own.

This book is amazing and holy cliffhanger! How can you rip my heart out like that and expect me to wait?!? I fell in love with Wolff’s world building and every single character. I cannot even put into words how much I loved this book. It’s embedded in my soul. I need book 2 and all the books right now! I have been obsessively recommending this to everyone!!

Grace has lost everything in a matter of months. After the unexpected death of her parents she now had to leave the only home she has ever known in sunny San Diego to move to Alaska and attend a private academy where her uncle is headmaster. At least she has her cousin Macy to show her the ropes and make her feel as much at home as possible. Something seems odd about Katmere Academy and Grace just can’t seem to put her finger on what though. All she knows is she’s falling fast and hard for the dangerous Jaxon who she should probably be running from but somehow keeps finding herself running to.

Crave is supposed to be the new Twilight and I call BS on that. The writing is pretty good, there’s no love triangle thank god and our heroine might be a lamb but she’s not going down without a hell of a fight.

Grace was completely oblivious to everything going on around her to the point where it was just downright hilarious at times. We know from the synopsis that Katmere Academy hosts the newest generations of monsters, what those monsters are I won’t say, but I did have fun trying to guess for myself. This of course goes right over her head, even though the monsters are pretty stereotypical and hints of what’s really going on are constantly dropped in her lap. She’s just like “yeah that’s weird must be an Alaskan thing.” After everything she’s been through though she has only come out stronger. I loved her snark, fast comebacks and witty banter.

Jaxon was a little harder to peg down. Luckily there’s a few chapters at the end of the book that are scenes from his perspective that really put you in his head so you can see how he feels about everything going on. He comes off like a frat douche that thinks the world revolves around him while also appearing, sad, distant and downright intimidating all in the space of one conversation. You can tell he just cares too much though and I loved that about him. Plus how sexy is that name and a scar to boot? Be ready to swoon girls, Wolff has brought us our new favorite bad boy.

The romance was a tad to insta-love for my tastes but I kind of expected that going into it since is is a vampire romance. For someone so smart and in tune with herself though I didn’t find it believable that Grace would fall for Jaxon seconds after meeting him. He isn’t a jerk to her though so there’s no asshole alpha-make troupe going on here which I appreciated. The novel takes place in the span of a little less than a week though and I would’ve liked Grave to have been eased into the whole thing more. After reading Jaxon’s chapters I totally understand his response to Grace though and think his actions and feelings were on par.

Crave was just so damn witty in and of itself. From the Twilight references, Grace’s favorite show being Legacies, a shows about a magical creatures boarding school, to the chapter titles that made me burst out laughing periodically. My favorite chapter titles is probably “Is there a wooden stake in your pocket or are you just excited to see me?” It never took itself too seriously and I loved the fresh take it had not only on vampires but other magical species as well. Don’t let the Twilight like cover trick you, Crave will have you craving more of its badass heroine and it’s cinnamon roll of a vampire.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange of an honest review.

Grace's life is turned upside down when she joined the academy and she has to try to fit in and understand who she is. A mortal among monsters, vampires, dragons and so on, she doesn't know where she belongs. Her life is complicated by Jaxon Vega, a vampire who she finds herself attract to. But nothing is easy and in a world full of monsters, vampires, dragons and witches Grace has to find her place.

I really liked Crave! It's a paranormal romance, a vampire YA and I really liked the characters, the setting and the plot. Almost inevitable is compare Crave to other books or TV shows with vampires, but the story is (even though there are similar elements) still unique and engaging.
There are so many funny moments and I found myself hooked right away, reading Crave! I liked everything and I couldn't thank enough the publisher and NetGalley for this copy! I'm more than ready to know what will happen next!

When this ARC hit my kindle I literally squealed with joy!! This book is one of my most highly anticipated reads for this year! YA. Vampires. Romance… SIGN ME UP!
“My whole world changed when I stepped inside the academy. Nothing is right about this place or the other students in it. Here I am, a mere mortal among gods…or monsters. I still can’t decide which of these warring factions I belong to, if I belong at all. I only know the one thing that unites them is their hatred of me.
Then there’s Jaxon Vega. A vampire with deadly secrets who hasn’t felt anything for a hundred years. But there’s something about him that calls to me, something broken in him that somehow fits with what’s broken in me.
Which could spell death for us all.”
First off, I love that Wolff put a Twilight reference in here. It’s hard not to compare any new Vampy YA books to the iconic series and Wolff took in in stride! Grace, the main character, was struggling with the loss of her parents and being shipped to Alaska to live with her uncle at Katmere Academy. Jaxon, the mysterious vampire with a scar, is highly feared around the academy. I also really loved the supporting characters Macy, Grace’s cousin, and Flint. Macy had me cracking up through the book. The romance between Grace and Jaxon was everything I wanted! I also really loved all the funny chapter titles! And that ending…. I’m so ready for the next book!!!
Thank you @entangledteen and @netgalley for blessing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review! This title Publishes April 7th!! I already pre-ordered my hardback copy and I can’t wait to add this to my she

I received this ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest and voluntary review. I was in no way compensated for this review.

When I heard that Tracy Wolff was writing a VAMPIRE novel this year, I freaked out! I had to have it and luck was with me when Entangled Teen granted my wish! Crave is the first book in a yet unknown series and it was everything I love about vampire books! This is the book vampire fans have been waiting for...dying for, you could say! Lol!

First, despite the cover look, please don't go thinking this has anything whatsoever to do with Twilight. Yes, it's a vampire book, yes it's YA, but please, please don't play that comparison game. If you do, you will be disappointed. And second, can we also bask in the sheer size of this beauty?! It's nearly 600 pages and it's all amazing!!

We pretty much know that this a vampire novel, but I will forewarn you that our heroine Grace, isn't in on the vampire secret right away. In fact, it's just past the halfway mark that things start to make more sense to her and the secrets are revealed, so know that the pacing to this one is a bit slower. It's not a high stakes, action packed adventure. Crave is more subtle than that. In fact there were times I was starting to doubt that vampire were involved, like maybe it was a psych out or something. The answer was forthcoming and yet with a twist of shocking too because WHOA!

Now let's get into what this plot is all about! Grace is our heroine, a teenage girl who had her world upended when her parents died and her next of kin is an uncle who works at a private school in Alaska! Still dealing with her grief, Grace doesn't quite know what to expect from everything. Her cousin, Macy is definitely one of the sweetest people ever! She makes Grace feel right at home trying to get things ready for her inevitable stay and she thinks of the littlest of things to make sure Grace has nothing to worry about.

That is until Grace meets Jaxon, the all around most popular/mysterious/brooding boy at school. And the welcome she receives from him is anything but warm and welcoming. In fact, he tells her to leave the school entirely. But Grace is my kind of heroine and instead of backing down and cowering, she gets in his face and I think that's when their chemistry started because Jaxon is suffering too and tries to hide it. The next few days has Grace getting into some dangerous mishaps and then Jaxon usually appears to help her out of said predicaments. He's her brooding knight in shiny armor, you could say.

Like I mentioned before the pacing here is very...steady. It's not fast, some might call it slow and while it isn't the pacing I usually go for, I was eating up the pages! Because there's the bizarre happenings that seem to follow Grace, and then there's the fact that you kind of want to know exactly what all the big secrets about this school are. Yes, we know it's vampires but there's always more to it than that and THAT is what made the pages just fly by for me.

Grace was a really fun kind of heroine. Sure she had some quirky moments, but honestly, who doesn't when they're a teenager? It was find of fun when she interacted with Jaxon because you add quirky with brooding and you get an interesting result. The fact that we know ahead of time that things aren't quite normal at this school didn't make me think ill of her either. Occasionally, Grace would wonder about things happening at school with students or whatnot, but someone, usually Macy, was always quick with a reason. That is until she is let in on the student body's "quirks."

The romance between Grace and Jaxon might remind some of Twilight, and honestly those books didn't leave much of an impression for me, so other than that slow to start friendship to romance I can't really make much comment on its likeness or not. But I will say that the relationship that slowly develops between Grace and Jaxon was definitely a heart-racing kind! Yes, it's a slow-burn romance but those have always been a favorite of mine! And there were hints of a possible love triangle, but I am not fully convinced that that is what's going on. So I feel 98% confident in saying that there is no love triangle. But you know, it's only book 1!

There's even more mystery going on in this one that starts to become more apparent after the halfway mark, so basically once Grace gets in the "know," more mysterious things happen and some vague explanations start coming too. The ending was one that I started to think about being a possibility but of course I wasn't quite on par with all the whys and hows, but it basically blew my mind! Especially the very last chapter because WHOA! I MEAN FREAKING WHOA!!!!!! This was not something I had anticipated AT ALL and now I have ALL the questions because my mind was blown!

Crave is not for the faint-hearted. This is a long book, a deliciously long book filled with intriguing characters and a page turning storyline that will leave you breathless! There's a spine-tingling romance between the star-crossed lovers and mysteries and secrets galore! The next book is bound to be equally, if not more amazing! This is the book vampire lovers have been waiting for! I have missed my dear friends of the night and having Wolff's vampires in my life was everything I could've hoped for! Crave is truly a book for the vampire girls/boys of this world! A group I am happy to be apart of!

Reading Crave was the most fun I’ve had with the supernatural. All of the sudden I was transported back to 15 year old me who loved this kind of stuff and I was living.
The characters were easy to like and funny, I found myself laughing often at their jokes and witty remarks. The pop culture references were strategically placed and I loved that each one was an homage to iconic stories that have paved the way for Crave to be what it is. The mystery of it all kept me turning each page as I eagerly wanted to find out what would happen next. The ending still has me reeling and I cannot wait to find out what other secrets & mysteries await us at Katmere Academy in book 2!
