A look at the world of drugs told by a former drug dealer.Deep dark eye opening .A book that was so informative so revealing.#netgalley#dopeworld
Dopeworld by Niko Vorobyov is a great read! A real engrossing page-turner and worth the time of a read!!
Sorry. I just could not get into this book. I did not appreciate the author's viewpoints, nor his writing. Not going to post this review on any of my regular sites, as my own personal opinions should not dissuade others from wanting to read it.
This was a very interesting and insightful book. Written by a former drug dealer, Dopeworld gives us a look at the drug world from a perspective you don't see everyday. While it was educational and very intriguing in some aspects, it didn't leave much of a lasting impact on me, and at times it was difficult to read through.
Wowza! This book was amazing. If you enjoy books that weave together politics, culture, commentary on colonialism, and some sheer stupidity - you need to pick up “Dopeworld.”
From the busy streets of St. Petersburg to the mountains in Chile to the suburbs of Colorado, “Dopeworld” brings together history, lived life experience re: Niko Vorobyov, and a lot of research on the 5 W’s of the global drug trade.
I admit I skipped a chapter or two - but this book reads so well even if you do lose focus. From how drugs have affected people historically to how it still is predominant in daily lives, Vorobyov explores the world in a weird kinda Anthony Bourdain style, but with drugs, not food. Get this book on August 18, 2020. You won’t want to pass this one up, organized crime + political science folks.
P.S. this is a great book if you love random fun facts and trivia! My roommate got *very* tired of me saying “oh my goodness you won’t believe this....”
Realistic, Frightening, and True.
Substance abuse, but more specifically, opiate abuse, has become an epidemic in the United States. Articles in the newspaper citing the opioid crisis are a daily occurrence. Most young people know someone that has died because of an addiction to opiates or heroin. This book tells the all too real struggles that Americans are battling with everyday. Addiction is a real issue that needs to be discussed, not covered up. There is still a stigma surrounding addiction and this book does an excellent job shedding light on that. Please read this! I think it is important for everyone to read this, if only to become more knowledgeable about what is happening and how to confront it, not turn our backs on it.
Great book on drugs in the world. This book covers the history of drugs, the various ways countries have handled drugs, the effect of drugs on society and individuals, descriptions of various drugs, drug dealers and organizations, and many other topics regarding drugs. The book is very through and interesting. There is a substantial amount of research which has been conducted. The author concludes that decriminalizing most drugs would be the best option which after reading this book I agree. This book should be read by all.
This book was received as an ARC from St. Martin's Press in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
This was a book that was so intense that I was not expecting. Drugs and dealing is an intense topic and I do have to be honest some parts of the book were really graphic and difficult to get through. Dopeworld takes you in the cut and dry of all the drugs that exist, the effects they have on your body, and the lords that exist and sell these types of drugs. Also, there are personal stories in the involvement of using and selling these drugs which I definitely will say, THIS IS NOT APPROPRIATE FOR CHILDREN! I know our True Crime collection could use some new material and this book will definitely open some eyes.
We will consider adding this title to our True Crime collection at the library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
