This was such a fun read and I loved the artwork! For graphic novels, that is usually the first thing that catches my eye and the colors are so vivid that I couldn’t look away!
The characters were very enjoyable as well- I was particularly fond of Hack Battler. She Dwarf was also a favorite and I really felt her pain when she would talk about her being the last of her kind.
This was light hearted at times but I can’t lie, I was a bit surprised at the (not very graphic) violence in this book.
Overall, I really enjoyed this and I am looking forward to getting a physical copy once released.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing a free eARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This graphic novel was very fun! I think fans of NIMONA will enjoy She-Dwarf's story. While the ending did feel a bit rushed, I enjoyed the flashback scenes and all of the characters. Also, shorcs. Shark orcs. Amazing.
An immensely fun graphic novel about a lady dwarf on a quest to find the lost dwarven city of Dammerung. The story was short, but captivating. The illustrations were great as well, and I enjoyed the characters expressions. I'm excited to purchase this book for our library!
This is fun romp of a fantasy adventure. She Dwarf joins up with an unlikely companion to go on her quest to find the kingdom of her people and discover if she is the only dwarf left. This is a vibrantly coloured graphic novel, which is not suitable for younger readers. I thoroughly enjoyed this although it took me a while to work my way through it and found myself putting it down sometimes.
Colorful, engaging, and entertaining. I enjoyed this fantasy graphic novel a great deal and would happily recommend it.
Well, I have to say that I’m in LOVE with the artwork! 😍 Seriously, the art is out-of-this-world good! I loved the vibrant colors and the smart way to present dialogue. That been said, the story wasn’t for me. Too silly for my taste. I like a little bit of whimsical and bizarre, but this was more than I could take. The story IS heartwarming, and it has a powerful message about being who you are and how everyone’s important, so I’m sure there are a lot of people around the world that will be able to appreciate the story, even with all the craziness.
2.5/5 stars
My Rating: 2.5
Overall the story was okay, I did like the whole quest agenda and having to try and find a lost village. My problem was the ending, it felt rushed like the author ran out of pages and had to put all in the last 10 pages of the book. Which was honestly quite disappointing as I was enjoying following the characters and getting to know them better.
The Savage Beard of She Dwarf, by Kyle Latino, is a graphic novel set in the fantasy world of Grindom. The main character, She Dwarf, is on a quest to find the kingdom of Dammerung and along the way, meets and helps people on quests of their own, such as retrieving stolen gold from a dragon. Throughout the story, the characters mistake her short and cute appearance for weakness. She soon dispels this by challenging them to arm wrestling fights and proving that her size can often be an advantage throughout her adventures.
However, on her adventure, She Dwarf is pursued by Drift, an elf who tries to stop her from discovering Dammerung. She warns She Dwarf of the dangers that lie ahead and attempts to thwart She Dwarf’s attempts at finding Dammerung through her encounters with various dragons and beasts. We also get a glimpse into She Dwarf’s childhood at intervals throughout the story, which explains more about why she is so determined to succeed in her quest.
I really enjoyed reading this and couldn’t wait to write the review. This is the first graphic novel I have reviewed so far and has made for an excellent start. The story is fun and light-hearted as well as meaningful, challenging the misconceptions of those who perceive differences as weaknesses. Despite all the obstacles that She Dwarf faces, she overcomes them with determination and isn’t afraid to look back on her past and learn from it, both in positive and negative ways. I also loved the artwork, also by Kyle Latino, which is what first drew me to the graphic novel.
My only criticism would be that it should be more widely available and the author deserves more recognition. I can’t wait to buy my copy when it is released!
I read The Savage Beard of She Dwarf by Kyle Latino which is a graphic novel via Netgalley. The main character is a female dwarf who is on a journey looking for a long lost city and is joined by a barbarian and an elf. On the way they fought different enemies and the she dwarf did not take any nonsense. I love the artwork, the story and the characters but my only gripe is the ending of the quest it seemed too quick and rushed. I'm hoping that we will see more of She Dwarf and if we don't it is a great shame as I foresee a very successful series. So for this reason I am giving it 3 stars
I received this graphic novel from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
I am kind of out of reviews it seems, so I will keep this one short. This one was awesome! Hilarious. Magical. Fun. Full of action and adventure. Very rushed at times and sometimes I was just a bit confused and had to read back to see if I missed anything. But all in all a wonderful graphic novel about the last dwarf (that she knows) looking for the mythical Dammerung. She gets help with many wonderful friends, slays tons of dragons in epic ways, fights some more against anything and everything, enjoy bath bombs, she has a fab beard, and more. I loved She Dwarf and loved how tough and kick-ass she was.
I was also a big fan of the action scenes and how everything just flowed, just like I was watching a show. The art was also fantastic. Colourful, fluid, flowing. I loved it.
All in all, I wouldn't mind more books about She Dwarf. I need them.
I really like graphic novels so when I saw this was a read now I needed it. The artwork was big and bold which I like. Unfortunately this book isn’t on goodreads the leave a review there. The story was well paced and an epic quest ahha. I loved that the main character wasn’t you ordinary character. I would read more in the series and by this author.
This was a quick easy read and moved at a pretty quick pace. It also emphasizes that having friends is helpful with any journey and that sometimes when you don't want the help there will always be someone there to have your back. I would have liked a little more context about She Dwarf and how she wound up on the quest besides just that her mother memories pushing her.
Loved the art work, how funny the main characters were, the scene with the bathbombs was perfect and made me think of my favorite booktuber Meltotheany. Perfect short read!
Such a fun read! I loved the writing style, kinda felt like I was playing Dungeons and Dragons. The artwork was great, buying a physical copy as soon as I can.
The art in this book was so vibrant and eye catching. I really enjoyed the overall style of the story. The story itself was fun and reminded me a lot of D&D quests. I will say that there was a LOT that happened in this book and some of it felt a little rushed, but it was still a really fun read!
