I'm a huge fan of THE MAGICIANS novels, so even though this is a middle-grade book and I'm a whole adult, I knew I'd have to check it out. Lev's voice carries through to the younger audience beautifully. Whereas THE MAGICIANS is a subversion of classic fantasy tropes, THE SILVER ARROW is more of a straight classic like the ones I grew up with as a child of the 90s (e.g., THE PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH, THE POLAR EXPRESS, and even much older kids' books like those by E. Nesbit), but it's no less delightful for it, and the themes -- climate change and human impact on the ecosystem -- make it ideal for the present moment.
