This is an excerpt from the novel Chain of Gold and I can't wait to read the rest of it! The Shadowhunter series is one of my favorites and even just a peak is simply glorious.
This excerpt does not disappoint and it leaves me hungry for more as once again the characters come to life on these pages.
I received this book from NetGalley and Simon and Schuster Children's Publishing for an honest review.

I’m a long time reader of Cassandra Clare and the Shadowhunter series. Her City of Bones/The Mortal Instruments saga was the first trilogy of books I read right after the Twilight series re ignited my love of reading and set me on the path of preferring to read YA. I loved The Infernal Devices trilogy and was happy to re-immerse myself in 1800s London with Will and Tessa’s children now the center of the stories.
This newest start to The Last Hours does not disappoint. Although Clare has a well established formula to her stories, and she sticks close to it here, the story still feels unique and was a highly enjoyable read. Fans of Clare will not be disappointed. Cameo appearance by well known characters from other books pop in and out of the storyline like Easter eggs. And of course the ending leaves you wishing Book 2 was coming out next month instead of (hopefully) next year. Not to be missed, a satisfying read.
this is an excerpt from a novel I can't wait to read! The Shadowhunter series is one of my favorites and I can't wait to dive into their world again. Cassandra Claire has a gift for bringing her characters to life and making you want to spend time with them.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Yes!!! I’m loving this new series. Such a great look at the shadow world. I am really enjoying the new characters and the dynamics of their relationships. Can’t wait to continue with this series.
Clare astounds again! Adding another period piece to her shadowhunters series was such a brilliant move on her part. Once again she captures the reader with her attention to detail and characterization. I can't wait to get my hands on the full novel to read and review.
I received a free copy of this book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
I am new to Casandra Clare so I have only this book to judge her writing. I enjoyed the tale, but the plethora of characters was daunting and did not help me become involved with any of them. However, the book was short enough that I would be willing to give it another shot At this time, I am not particularly interested in pursuing this book. I’ll see what mood I’m in in the future. I could change my mind in view of the fact that she is said to be a great writer.
It has been awhile since I have read a book by Cassandra Claire as all of her books are set on the same premise and my reading habits tend to be based on my mood. I honestly forgot how good of an author she is. Although I really wish she was more diverse in her writing, after picking up this excerpt I can see myself potentially diving back into the series so I can see where this goes!
I got a portion of this as an ARC but could never get the ebub to download, that did not matter because I had already pre-ordered the book and I was not disappointed. Although it took me a little bit to get into this one, maybe because if what so long ago that I read the Clockwork series; however, that being said, once I got in it I got in it. Just like with all of the other books by Cassandra Clare you become invested and root for your favorite and want the villain destroyed. I can not wait to see what comes next in the fascinating new trilogy!!
A very promising first installment in a new Cassandra Clare series. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the preview! Rating based on the first few chapters covered by the excerpt. My review of the whole book was published on my GoodReads page.
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. Maybe Cassie's best book?
We have prominent LGBT+. characters, PoC, mysteries and CORTANA.
She ties each series to each other so well and while we have been waiting for these characters since I think 2013 or 2014 it was well worth the wait! It is loosely based on "Great Expectations" and is so much better and with much more nuance.
I'm just agog.
This snippet of the book really hooked me. I look forward to reading the entire book. I’m new to Cassandra Clare but have head so many good things.
Mini review:
I received this e-arc sample via the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I really liked it! Looking forward to reading the full novel.
Highly recommended.
I only got a tiny excerpt of Chain of Gold, but having read Lady Midnight and this snippet I’m super excited for this book!
First, lets just say that I read anything Cassandra Clare writes. Lets get that right off the bat. And second, her Infernal Devices series was my favorite. So I was anxiously, and impatiently, awaiting this series. As soon as I knew there was an excerpt available, I jumped. Cassandra is BEST at writing her characters... well rounded with wants and destires, fears and flaws, that make you want to hug them all the time. I loved each character in this book. One character, Anna, really steals the show for me. I loved all the different budding romances between these young characters. The story is interesting however the characters are really the star of these show.
I think this is a great start to the novel and I look forward to reading the entire thing. I love Cassandra Clare and it seems like this book will fit well with her normal offerings. I am excited that there will be another series in the Shadowhunters universe.
Thank you to Netgalley for a review copy of the first 5 chapters. Based on my reading, I subsequently purchased the full version because I was absolutely entranced.
I’ve been obsessed with Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunter characters for years, and this may be the best of the bunch. The book follows Janes and Lucie Herondale and their friends through London circa 1900. As with other books in Clare’s series, there is plenty of action, with nephilim, demons, and warlocks. I wholeheartedly recommend this amazing book!
I´m so hyped for this book and I´m gonna buy the book as soon as possible. At first I was very sceptical, because Cassandra Clare has written so many books in this World and it was hard to believe she could catch me again. But she did!!
This book was received as an ARC from Simon and Schuster Children's Publishing in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
I am a huge fan of Cassandra Clare and her series The Mortal Instruments and His Dark Artifices and now with Chain of Gold, the series The Last Hours can start with the children of Will and Tessa Herondale and the next generation of Carstairs and the love drama returns with Cordelia Carstairs reuniting with James and Lucie Herondale and then comes the realization that Cordelia has developed a love for James but when she finds out James is set to marry someone else, Cordelia is unsure of what her life has become and what life has in store for her. When a pack of demons attacks, Cordelia, James and Lucie must work together and they comes to realize that they have been gifted dark powers by their families past and they could not be more grateful more than ever. Cassandra Clare did not disappoint in this one and I can not wait for the second installment because I know it will be better than ever. I can't wait for our teen book club to read this and hear the discussion that will rise.
We will consider adding this title to our YA collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.
This excerpt is a great look into this vast universe. I am interested in continuing this series now because it is historical and fantastic there seems to be the beginning of a great love story and this is an awesome mix of all the types of stories that I love.
This is one of my most anticipated reads of 2020 so it was nice to get a little sneek peak to tide me over until I read it. Matthew, Cordelia and James are going to be in my top ten character in the Shadowhunters universe probably by the end of this and I have only heard good things so far.
