When I was reviewing books for a management journal, I was not able to get this one into my schedule. I wanted to read it anyway, which, honestly, is rare considering my giant TBR pile. It was worth the time. Carter offers simple straightforward guidance to make an often contentious process painless. I especially appreciated the idea of asking the right questions to avoid so many pitfalls that lead to debate or argument. This is the perfect book for anyone nervous about negotiation—from the office newbie to even the most jaded of us who think the decks are stacked against us.
I've always loved negotiating and honing my skills, learning more. ASK FOR MORE is a compact guide with lots of actionable advice for all the many realms of negotiation in our lives. Giving it to my kids!
Great book, shows a plethora of insights and tips on negotiating what you deserve in life, would highly recommend, Can't wait for more books from this author.
I'd taken a Negotiations Class while at University of Pennsylvania Law School. The class had been an eyeopener and helped me reduce my anxiety about negotiating and conflict resolution. This was many years ago and I was delighted to read Alexandra Carter's Ask For More.
In Ask For More, Alexandra Carter reminds us to focus on our goals before entering the negotiation. She gives concrete ways that we can prepare ourselves before entering the negotiation and this allows us to step out of the usual ways and "asks" to move towards broader and larger solutions.
I found her book concise and a useful tool to prepare myself and my mind. I would highly recommend Ask For More!
Ask for More by Alexandra Carter is a non-fiction book written to help the reader not only improve negotiation with others but truly reflect on why you are taking the time to negotiate. The first aspect focuses on reflection and truly asking yourself why you are doing this and what you are hoping to achieve. This is a critical point as people typically negotiate just because they want something rather than understanding the true reason for that want. The author is thoughtful on outlining their methods for how to ask for more and is deeper and more empathetic than typical negotiation books which are more focused on quick and dirty tactics. I enjoyed this book and will be using it currently for innovation, which was one way to apply these methods, and eventually will likely apply this when entering the job market in a couple of years.
Many thanks to the publisher Simon & Schuster and Netgalley for the arc in return for an honest review.
