First of all a big thank you to the author, the publisher and Netgalley for sending me a copy of this book to read and review.

This was a quick and interesting read. This just wasn’t for me. There was a lot of representation in this book which I loved. However the plot just wasn’t my thing.

Had very big hopes for this one, but this just was not for me. I did not enjoy the writing and it was lots of things described that need not to be.

The Twin Goddesses was such a fun ride. Aurora and Arden felt like true, teenage twins. They loved each other fiercely, fought, but always had each other’s backs. I loved meeting their whole family. They were all so lovable and fun!

The magic was entertaining. I liked how each goddess had different powers but they could also borrow powers from one another. The action at the end was well written.

3 stars for this fast fantasy read!

Good Magical read. I feel like the magical twins thing is a bit over done but this author did it well. I enjoyed it a lot.

Thank you kindly to the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for this review copy.

Just what I've been needing! I've been making it my business to find books centered around femininity and family! The voices in the story proved to be POWERFUL and MOVING! And I believe that is the voice we will always need from our female characters. The fantasy was just a bonus with the harsh hit of realism, and we need more like this to hit the shelves! Thank you, Yodassa for your story! <3

I started reading this one but didn't hold my interest. I though the concept was good but I wish I could have connected with the characters more.

This was an ok book. Did not stick with me, but I did enjoy reading the book. The story kept me engaged, and I really liked the characters. But after a while, I forgot about it.

I actually quit this book because I wasn't in the right mood for it at the time.

I don't have any issues, and intend to give it another try in the very near future!

The Goddess Twins, in a word, was a trip. The characters were all alive, with so many different points of view on life and so many different personalities. It was also great seeing identical twins who do not get along at all. Aurora and Arden are as different as oil and water. Aurora is fierce, wild, and angry, while Arden is calm, gentle, and level-headed. But when they push past their differences, they can make a great team.

The plot was interesting and drew me in from the beginning. All of the worldbuilding was on point. There wad a rich culture behind everything for the characters and it was interesting reading about the development of how things came to be, and the feud between the men and women of Aurora and Arden’s family.

It was such a different experience reading The Goddess Twins (I mostly read books by white authors, not because of preference but because the premise of the authors’ books interest me.) that I don’t really know what else to say. The magic that each character had was amazing to see and fit perfectly with their personality traits.

Overall, The Goddess Twins was a fun and interesting read. I would recommend it for fans of The Hate U Give and The Sun is Also a Star.

NOTE: I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley for review purposes only. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

For me, this is the case of a book that was not fleshed out enough or edited hard enough and was sent to publication too soon. It has a good premise and some good content for creating a solid magic system, but there were a lot of things that fell short.

Perhaps the biggest feeling on this one was that it felt like a YA novel shoved into a middle grade form. There wasn't enough nuance or subtlety to the writing, resulting in a plot that squeezed quite a bit into too few pages and didn't give enough to get me involved in the story. The writing did way too much telling instead of showing and a little additional description could have gone a long way. Similarly, there was a lot of info dumping rather than world-building that I think hurt how well this could have been put together. As a result, the characters felt flat and the pacing inconsistent. The bones are there, but the execution needed some nurturing.

Character development was a problem because it was lacking. What was present really just made me dislike the majority of the characters. Arden was the only one who really had any characteristics making her likable, but I didn't feel like I got to know her well enough to feel invested in any way. Because I didn't really care about the characters, I had a hard time caring about the story.

When it came to the story itself, I return the idea that this felt like a middle grade read in some ways. Dialogue was immature (sometimes in keeping with the characters, but sometimes just awkward) and inconsistent. One character's accented speech seemed to come and go with no explanation. Everything in the plot was overly convenient and there were little to no consequences for bad actions or choices. Even when characters did something stupid there seemed to be a silver lining so things worked out exactly how they wanted them too.

Given the potential for the storyline and an interesting world/series, I was very disappointed in this read.

Interesting premise, great characters but not long enough to really showcase the great writing. I do hope there will be more from this writer and I look forward to reading a longer book in the future.

17-year-old twins Arden and Aurora are doing their absolute best to manage their school and home life balance. However, a milestone is fast approaching: their 18th birthday. Looking forward to this day, the twins are thrown into chaos when their famous mother disappears whilst on a tour in London. As if that isn’t enough, the pair also develop their latent powers of telepathy and telekinesis. Unaware of the powers bestowed upon them by the Gods, the twins make it their mission to find their mother as quickly as they can.

However, nothing is truly as it seems and upon meeting some of their family members, Arden and Aurora come to realize that their family has a myriad of secrets that they must continue to uncover. But will these newfound revelations become too much for Aurora and Arden to handle? With things not always as they seem, the twins are in store for a new adventure with their newfound powers and goddess status. Now the girls just have to figure out whether or not these newfound discoveries will propel them onto a new path or will they be a hindrance?

Written by Yodassa Williams, The Goddess Twins was a great novel by a budding author. I enjoyed the magic that was weaved within the pages, as well as the mythological elements throughout. The idea behind the story was extremely intriguing and while I enjoyed the protagonists, the mythology, and the fact that they needed to stop a power-hungry man from trying to take over the world. That being said, I do feel like the book could have been a bit longer. At times, there were parts that felt as if they were rushed through when it would have played out better if readers had been given more time to digest or take it in. However, this didn’t deter me from liking the novel. I just wish there was more time spent in certain areas.

I was also very interested in the Jamaican legends at play within the story. This was something that I’d never seen in a story before, so that was refreshing to read. I also really enjoyed Aurora and Arden. The pair were able to hold their own even with the odds stacked against them and while the twins had good character development, I do wish that the story had gotten the same treatment. While there was a lot of growth for the pair, there wasn’t enough time within the book to allow the story to play out properly to experience it all.

Ultimately, The Goddess Twins was a good debut and that is sure to be enjoyed by those who like interesting characters (both in protagonist and antagonist form), a memorable story and a lot of magical mythology.

This book has my mind racing as I think of all of the possibilities of the future books. Families are supposed to love and cherish each other but what if some of the family members despise the other because of their gifts? This book explores family dynamics, loss, jealousy, and strength. There are many life lessons for kids and adults alike. I look forward to the next book.

This book was far too short, with too much exposition. Books with a lot of talking and little to no action tend to take me longer to read and this one was no exception. I loved the story of the twins and even more that they had their own personalities. I hope the next chapter in their story is a bit meatier than this one. It's a good start, but I'm giving it a 3-star because of the length.

I loved the creativity of this book. And, I could totally picture this book as a movie (starring Chloe and Halle of course!). Williams delivers a fun, whimsical tale that also weaves in family drama. Because the twins do not know the full story of their heritage they sometimes judge their mother too harshly. And, isn't this how childhood works? As children, we are not always aware of the sacrifices that our parents make on our behalf. The twins definitely grow up in this novel. This is a strong debut from her and I am looking forward to reading more of her work.

So there is going to be a sequel right?

I really enjoyed this story. It follows Twins Arden and Aurora who learn that they have powers before their 18th birthday. Arden is able to read thoughts and Aurora can move things with her mind. When their mother disappears while in London the Twins come together to save their mom.

I liked how all the women in this family had different powers. There was shapeshifting, moving your body from one space to another , sirens. I also loved how all the women stuck together (sometimes .. hello Aurora looking at you)

The mess behind the Twins origins family history was MESSSYYY. The Grandfather know he was wrong for what he did and then had the nerve to agree to what was said at the ending? I really hope there is a sequel because it ended on a cliffhanger.

The trigger in this book includes kidnapping , drugging of girls & abuse.

One thing I wished was in this story is that there was 3 perspectives : Aurora, Arden & the Grandfather. We only are in his head in the prologues and epilogue. It would have been interesting to hear what he was doing throughout the story because he is sick individual.

I thoroughly enjoyed this fast-paced story of family, self-discovery, and empowerment based on Jamaican legends. It was an enjoyable ride following twins Arden and Aurora o their journey of discovering their special gifts and all that comes with that. This is a story for young adults that I would recommend for anyone!
