If you like Vegas and Magic, you will surly like this book. Zelda and Nicholas have more in common than they are willing to admit. Fate or a stolen Mac prop brings them together.
I am going to be honest, this book was not my favorite. I struggled to finish it. I found myself bored. I thought this book was going to be magically, but it fell flat for me.
Ahhhhh this was just such a great read. I just didn't want this book to end and I was sad to turn the last page. I'm so excited to see what's next from this author.
Master illusionist Nicholas Pine has learned the hard way that nothing—and nobody—is what they seem. So when he runs into sexy antique shop owner, Zelda Quincy, he knows there’s more to her than meets the eye. Still, what he sees is very, very intriguing…and he can’t get her out of his head. Zelda has spent her whole adult life running away from her family’s reputation. She’s changed her name and tried to move on. The last thing she wants is to return to the world she left behind, even with someone as hot as Nicholas by her side. But after one hot night––she’s addicted––and so is he. Too bad the skeletons in Zelda’s closet won’t stay hidden for long.
This was a decent read. It was a quick read. The characters were likable and the overall plot was good. I enjoyed watching both characters as they went through their journey to get to their HEA. I recommend.

I enjoyed this contemporary romance surrounded by a nice little mystery. Nicholas and Zoe each had things in their pasts that haunted them, made them guarded, but their instant chemistry eased the tension. Watching them work through their issues and into a relationship was nice. The romance itself had a nice bit of heat mixed in with tenderness. I also enjoyed the glimpses into the world of illusionists. Overall, a fun, quick read.

A gripping romance with mystery and thrill. This book ticks all the boxes for a great novel. This book used magic to add a twist to an emotional tale of love.
Magic and Sin City are simply made for each other, just like Nicholas and Zelda. The bright lights of Vegas and the spectacle of Nicholas’s illusions are a dazzling backdrop for a sleek and sexy romance in Wild Nights.
Nicholas and Zelda are both likeable characters with old wounds that their burgeoning romance brings to the surface. Zelda comes from a famous magic family, but after a trick went horribly wrong in her teens, she’s put the world of magic behind her. Mostly. Having changed her name and moved across the country, Zelda can’t quite resist the allure of magic and runs an antique shop that specializes in magic props. Zelda doesn’t want to get sucked back into the world she grew up in, mostly because of the painful memories it brings up. So when sexy magician Nicolas Pine comes to her shop looking for his stolen Houdini water cabinet, Zelda tries to resist her attraction to him. But the pull between them can’t be denied and the longer he and Zelda are together the harder it is for her to tell him the truth about her family.
Love and lies have gone hand-in-hand for Nicholas for so long that he’s always on the lookout for Zelda to betray his trust in some way. With this kind of setup, it’s easy to see the drama coming from a mile away. That being said, the way things played out actually worked pretty well. Both Nicholas and Zelda are self-aware enough to recognize their issues and what triggers them and though there is some expected drama, it still feels fairly organic. The romance between them takes a while to build, then goes full-speed halfway through. I do wish the pacing had been a bit faster in the first part of the book and that the emotional component had been slowed down and allowed to develop more naturally in the second.
Magic and illusions are like catnip for me, so I was very eager to dive into Wild Nights. Once the pacing picked up I enjoyed the story immensely. I haven’t read the first Jokers Wild book, One Night Gamble, but this book easily stands on its own. That being said, I liked Katherine Garbera’s writing enough that I’ll definitely be reading the rest of this series.
book 2 in the joker's wild series, wild nights, focuses on nicholas pine, master illusionist and gorgeous man. as a magician he's full of superstitions and surprisingly for someone who works in tricks and sleights of hand, he's got some big hang-ups about being lied to.
zelda quincy doesn't lie to him per se. she doesn't talk about her past. or the fact that she's one of the waterstones of the waterstone magic family. she thought she left magic behind after everything that happened, but something drew nicholas to her.
and that something keeps them coming back together for more.
i really enjoyed this story, the way the two characters fall headlong in love without meaning to. i love how when zelda has to confront her past and share it with nicholas, after he deals with his own baggage he finds a way to exorcise her ghosts. i've always enjoyed this author and was glad to have a chance to read this one.
**wild nights will publish on february 10, 2020. i recieved an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/entangled publishing in exchange for my honest review.
A great read, the story of Nicholas and Zelda.
Given her past, the last thing she wants is to get involved with a magician, but once she meets Nicholas she can't help herself.
Looking forward to the rest of this series.
Wild Nights by Katherine Garbera
Jokers Wild Series
Nicholas Pine and Zelda Quincy meet when she confronts him outside her shop that sells antique magic devices. They chat, he tells her what he is looking for, she says she will let him know if/when it arrives and that should be that BUT there is chemistry. Why? Is it because he is a magician looking for a device that plays a huge part in Zelda’s past or...is it magic….or...perhaps chemistry?
This is a short story that deals with people who have trust issues, are not truly open with one another and have past baggage that is dragging them down. Throw in an ex with a motive to increase the tension and a few other things and you have a quick steamy story to read.
If you like magic, magicians, illusions and an easy quick read with a bit of sizzle then this book might be for you.
Did I enjoy this story? Yes
Would I read more in this series? I think so
What I wonder about? Zelda’s sister and what will happen in the future for this couple.
Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled-Brazen for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Wild Nights by Katherine Garbera is a sweet romance that is sure to leave you wanting more. A lovely romance between two slightly damaged people who have an electric chemistry. Full of drama, flirting, and lots of steamy romance that is sure to keep you turning the pages.
Another Joker finds his Queen. Nicholas is an illusionist and only allows a few people to get close to him. Zelda is hiding who she is from everyone around her. Trust doesn’t come easily to either of them. This is a fun, witty and flirty story. Watching the interactions between Zelda and Nicholas reminds me of two lions circling each other to see who will pounce first. They are a sleek couple who’s characters compliment each other perfectly. The characters in this series reflect the fun of Vegas which entices the reader to keep coming back for more.
I very much liked Wild a Nights, which surprises me. You see, I hate magic. Hate it with a passion, don’t go to or watch magic shows on tv. It’s just never been my thing. So I wasn’t sure how this was going to go when I was offered an ARC from the publisher. I just hoped that my underlying dislike of something so crucial to the plot didn’t influence how I felt about the book as a whole.
Well, it didn’t. In fact, it made it more interesting, since magic wasn’t the theme, it was just a small part of the backdrop. Forgiveness, guilt, betrayal and love made up Zelda and Nicholas’s story. I was wrapped up in their interacts and enjoyed the sprinkles of illusion that were woven into this tale of two people who seem very different but are actually very similar. Very easy to read and both sweet and sexy...those scenes are open door, but less graphic and wild than some...Wild Nights gave me a small behind the scenes look at magic that I didn’t have before. It won’t send me out to by tickets to a show, but it didn’t distract me from the great love story Katherine Garners created.
When Zelda sees the same guy hanging outside her shop 3 days in a row, she confronts him. Turns out he is Master illusionist, Nicholas Pine and is looking for the water chamber stolen from him. Since Zelda put on her website that she will have one soon in her shop, he wants to check if it’s his.
Zelda and Nicholas are drawn to each other from the start, which leads to them being together. Nicholas doesn’t trust easily and knows Zelda is hiding something but their connection is so strong that he overlooks. But once the truth comes out will he be able to overlook it so easily ?
Zelda and Nicholas are two broken characters who heal together. Their chemistry and connection helped their relationship bloom into love and I really enjoyed their journey. This is the second book in the Jokers Wild series and hope we get the third partners book soon.
Nicholas is a successful magician who is preparing for his next show in Vegas when one of the items in his show goes missing. He has been betrayed one too many times both personally and professionally, so trust is hard for him to give. When his search leads him to Zelda’s shop he is intrigued and attracted to her but believes there is more to her than he knows.
Zelda has a past full of regrets and guilt and all she wants is to maintain the new life she has built and leave her past where it belongs. She knows that she should keep her distance from Nicholas but that is earlier said than done. Once her secrets are revealed will it bring them closer or tear them apart?
Between Nicholas’s lack of trust and Zelda’s secrets they were on a collision course for disaster, but they came through for each other when it really counted.
Another really good book from author Katherine Garbera. I don’t think I’ve read anything from this author that I haven’t liked & this book is adding to my tally. It’s interesting with its Magic backdrop, it’s sweet with the blossoming romance between two slightly damaged people & it’s definitely hot when they act on the flirting they’ve been doing. I loved the idea karma & magic had a hand in them getting together. As always there’s a betrayal & mistakes are made in keeping secrets & trust gained has been lost but in the end true love conquers all & karma has had its way. Definitely recommend this book, it’s a great addition to the Jokers Wild series.

I was drawn to this book for three reasons: the cover is great, and not cheesy like some romances, the title doesn't turn me off, and I typically like books published by Entangled. Unfortunately, that is where the allure ends for me.
Right away, I knew I wasn't crazy about Wild Nights. It's written in past tense, making it difficult to truly immerse myself in the story, and Zelda and Nicholas didn't have the kind any chemistry. Their interactions with one another seemed awkward. The sex between them wasn't bad, and if anything, that is the only times they seemed comfortable around each other. I am not sure if it was the intent of the author to write them this way because they are both eccentric people, or if this was just a miss for her.
Wild Nights brings Zelda and Nicholas together, and right away they feel a connection. This is very annoying to me in any book. I get characters who are attracted to one another. It's normal to be instantly attracted to someone. What annoys me is when its an instant connection, where they feel they were brought together for some purpose. I feel its a shortcut to not explore two characters to get to know one another before feeling something past lust.
Another issue I had, was that everything was laid right out there. I didn't have to think about what I was reading. Anytime Nicholas or Zelda thought something, or did something, I was told why. It's not necessary to lay out all that information. Many times, it was repetitive to the extreme.
Besides some small editing errors, (specifically when they are having a sexual encounter at his house, one paragraph states he pauses for a moment to put on a condom, and the next paragraph, she is putting one on him.), there were things I liked. Wild Nights could have been great. The bones of the story are solid. A lot less repetitive inner dialogue, way more attention put into the characters and their chemistry with one another, and the dialogue, and perhaps a different writing tense would have really made this a solid book. Perhaps a little more mystery for us readers as well. I like to think about what I'm reading, and think about the characters. I had no desire to in this book. I had no need to. It was all there in the story.
Wild Nights was a miss for me, but the story is original. I haven't come across a book to date that centers around the magic community ... at least in the romance category. The story itself would have been awesome if Zelda and Nicholas had chemistry together. While I don't personally recommend it, if you are familiar with Katherine Garbera's other works, and are a fan, give it a shot. What doesn't work for me, might for you!
This book is about Nicholas, an illusionist and Zelda, whose mysterious past also involves the world of magic. I don't know if it was the fact that the book takes place with magicians but I could not get past the first few chapters. I normally enjoy Katherine Garbera's books but I had a hard time with this one. I didn't feel that Nicholas and Zelda had any chemistry. This was just not my cup of tea...
