Enemies to lovers and they never stood a chance. A slow burn that would threaten to consume them both. There is a thin line between love and hate and the lines began to blur each time they were together.
I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher, via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.
As long as they can remember Jane Hancock and Adam Ashford's families have been at loggerheads. The feud may have been their ancestors making, but they've never tried to resolve it. But when they realise that fate has played a hand, and for them to save their families, they need to work together to discover the lost treasure at the heart of the matter. However, only one of them can benefit from the discovery. Will Adam and Jane let bygones be bygones and seek out the treasure, in the hope of saving their family, or will they ruin their chances to spire their 'enemy'?
I've really enjoyed Sawyer's books in the past, and when this one was re-offered on NetGalley, I immediately requested it. I liked the idea behind Jane and Adam's family history, and loved how they both grew as the story continued. They weren't really enemies but because of family pressure, they've always had this sort of hatred for the other person. Being forced to be in each other's company for so long, as they trek the length and breadth of the country, they realise that everything they thought about the other person was false, and once they saw the reality, it wasn't hard for them to fall in love. Okay, there were some ridiculous moments across the pages, but some really sweet ones too, and the relationship felt very real by the end. A nice Regency read!
Enemies to lovers? YES, please! Nothing I enjoy more than watching two people who originally can’t stand each other being placed in a unique situation, and then the two enemies begin to develop those “pesky” feelings, then eventually falling in love! ❤️🔥❤️🔥 Our MCs are Jane & Adam and their families have loathed each other for more than 70-years, so naturally these two must keep up the loathing… or do they? They are forced to take a journey throughout England together in hopes locating a load of coins; the hope is to save one of their mills and prevent ruin.
The interactions between our MCs are witty and fun - I enjoyed the chemistry between Jane & Adam as they get to truly know each other.
I will be looking for more books from Sawyer North in the future! 👀
Overall 4 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | 4 Flames 🔥🔥🔥🔥
📚I received a review copy of this book from the publisher and this is my honest and freely given review. 🦄
This is my first time reading something by this author so I didn't know what to expect when I picked up this book. I found it to be an entertaining enemies-to -lovers story which was engaging from start to finish. The author did a nice job of creating the scenes and bringing the story and characters to life. The storyline flowed smoothly and I enjoyed the adventure and excitement complemented with a little mystery to the building romance. Jane and Adam's families have been feuding for decades, but when both families are faced with debtor's prison, they work together to save their families from ruin. The story was well-crafted and entertaining and I especially enjoyed the witty dialogue. Many times I found myself smiling and laughing out loud. I admit I was a bit skeptical at first, as this is the first time I've read a romance written by a man, but kudos to the author for doing such a superb job and really making the story so engaging and entertaining. I would love to read more of this author's work in the future.
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
I read a lot of historical romance, and this was a truly unique one. Jane and Adam's families have been enemies for generations, and they are quite happy to carry on the tradition. But the year without a summer has found them both financially beholden to a cruel man. He makes a bargain with them that will ruin one of them no matter what. Jane, her aunt, Adam, and Mr. Barlow (legal representative to the villain) head off on a journey across England that changes all of their lives. Along the way, they face all kinds of challenges with grit and biting humor.
I meant to read it over several days, but it ended up being only two because I had trouble stopping. Adam and Jane were so funny together, and their relationship arc was lovely. For those who are interested, this is a clean romance that I would not hesitate to give to a teenager. I will definitely be following this author in the future.
Ahhhhh this was just such a great read. I just didn't want this book to end and I was sad to turn the last page. I'm so excited to see what's next from this author.
Much as I love madcap, silly historical romance, this one did not hit the spot. The rhyming couplet mystery was too much for me to take, especially with the way they bounced off one kind stranger after another, conveniently getting the information they need to direct them to the next location. It felt like a rather boring, dorky video game, rather than a historical romance at times. On the plus side, there is some good banter between the leads, though their characterization is not strong enough to support it. Because of the promising banter, I would try another book by North.
Jane and Adam are really cute together as they overcome their feuding families.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for my ARC. All opinions are my own.
Very interesting read! You will be entertained her by Jane and Adams dialogues, entertaining plot and many turns and twists. I would read more by this author for a simple fact - this book was like eating your favorite candy!
Fair Weather Enemies. By Sawyer North. 2020. Entangled: Scandalous (ARC eBook).
After several harsh winters in which crops and mills have suffered, Adam Ashford and Jane Hancock have found themselves in debt to a London creditor and a dismal future awaiting both of them. The Ashfords and Hancocks of Oxfordshire have long feuded between their families and Adam and Jane have vexed each other since they were children, but when secrets of their shared history are unearthed, the two adversaries enter into a contract that has them trekking across England in search of a long lost treasure. Along the way, their respect and attraction for each other grows and they begin to wonder whether it’s too late for new beginnings.
Fair Weather Enemies is a delightful debut in the historical romance genre for North. Adam and Jane are such likeable characters and if you like the enemies to lovers trope, road trips, riddles and colorful characters popping up along the way, you’ll want to pick this book up. This was a fun read from start to finish!
Fair Weather Enemies by Sawyer North. This was a new author for me, and he is also new to writing books in the historical romance genre. The book had a unique spin on the enemy to lover troupe and was well written, interesting. I loved how the author used riddles to help guide the characters to the treasure. It was a sweet, clean romance for Jane and Adam and had a second chance at love for the side characters.
The Hancock and the Ashford families had a long-standing feud between them. Both families were hurt by the weather and economy, since the Hancock’s owned a mill and the Ashford’s were farmers. They both received a summons from Mr. Rutley and when they arrived, they were told Rutley was calling in their family’s debt. He demanded Adam forfeit his estates and he told Jane he was sending her to debtor’s prison. Jane and Adam come up with a plan to find the lost gold that their great-grandfathers had entrusted to a friend. Rutley agreed to give them thirty days to find the gold but all the gold must be there and he set more conditions so neither Jane nor Adam really won. As they work to solve the riddles their feelings of loathing slowly grew toward respect and love. Can they find the treasure in time and somehow find a way to have a future together?
Sawyer North's Fair Weather Enemies is a fabulous historical romance debut. I love historical fiction, but I have to say Regency Era can be a hit or miss for me and not my favorite. This one is definitely a hit. Mr North has written a delightfully fun romance. Within the first couple of chapters, I was hooked and did not want to put the book down. I enjoyed Adam and Jane's story. I loved the humor in some of the scenes.
I am giving Fair Weather Enemies a very well deserved five plus stars. I can not wait to read more books by this author.
I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
London 1816
As Jane and her aunt Hester were walking to the office of Mr Rutledge, when she saw Him. "Jane stared daggers at the familiar man emerging from a carriage not ten steps ahead. Adam Ashford. The mortal enemy. The fountain of all ills."
But the money lender was calling in a debt he held for both of them and their estates. He would take Ashford's estate and Jane would go to debtor prison. What? Fortunately as they talked they both remembered some lost gold and letters that all came together.. So they compromised with Mr Rutledge to give them time to find the treasure.
I have to say the witty dialogue pulled me in right from the beginning and made me laugh out loud. As their journey began to find the gold, it really was an adventure and kept my interest until the end.
A great first book for this author in this genre'!
The title of this book captured my attention and ‘Fair Weather Enemies’ proved to be quite entertaining. The Hancock’s and the Ashford’s have been enemies for several generations, but it when the long-standing feud involving the descendants Miss Jane Hancock and Adam Ashford, find themselves working together to save their family properties. Together they begin a hunt for hidden treasure, that will only end with one winner and one loser, left to face ruin, a forced marriage or debtor’s prison.
The delicate relationship between Adam and Jane, was well delivered, growing as the storyline progressed. Their characters as well as those of Jane’s aunt and other secondary characters were well developed. I must admit that the romance between the pair could have been engaging, as it was difficult to believe the intensity of their feelings for the other. Otherwise, a fast-paced story which was quite entertaining.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
3.5 stars
I liked the idea of a treasure hunt and two enemies getting to know each other better. However, it seems like the treasure hunt was the main focus and the romance was added in. I did like the characters of Jane and Adam, a miller’s daughter and a gentleman and the banter between them. I kept reading as I wondered how they would solve the problem that awaited them when they returned to London. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A family feud between neighboring estates, the Hancocks and Ashfords has lasted more than 70 years and brings Adam Ashford and Jane Hancock has just about brought the to families to the brink of ruin.
Now their only way out of an a disastrous contract with a vile solicitor is to do the unthinkable, and bond together to find a long sought after gold bounty. Together they must follow clues in two separate letters, that leads them on an intriguing adventure that will ultimately change their lives forever.
Sawyer North captures your attention right from the beginning, in his newest book, Fair Weather Enemies.
I fell completely in love with his writing style, and his captivating story from the very first opening pages. His delightful three dimensional fleshed out characters that Captured my heart.
The storyline is engaging with the perfect amount of delightful romance. Superb comic timing and witty banter adds some of the best content to any historical romance I have read in a long time. I found myself laughing out loud several times.
Quick paced and intriguing plot line kept me interested and glued to the pages all the way through to the heartwarming satisfying end.
I definitely will recommend this incredible romantic story to anyone who enjoys the perfect historical romance.
This is a story as much about adventure as love. Jane and Adam are enemies who find themselves on a quest together. As they journey and relive the mishaps of their lives they find themselves falling in love. Jane and Adam are both fierce protectors of their families legacy which they are fighting to keep intact. It is fun filled with sprightly conversation as they journey to solve the puzzle.

The Hancocks and Ashfords have had a long-standing feud long before Miss Jane Hancock couldn't stand the sight of gentleman farmer Adam Ashford. But the summerless year of 1816 sees both families fall on hard times and an unscrupulous creditor forces Jane and Adam to sign a devil's bargain, they'll finally understand the true meaning of keeping your enemies close at hand.
The terms of this bargain? Locate a lost treasure shrouded in deception and mystery.
The catch? Only one can claim it to win...the loser is left to ruin.
As Jane and Adam embark on a trek throughout England to try & find the gold that was the cause of the rift they plan to hate their adversary, no matter how attractive, generous, and kind they are.
This is a new author to me & there was much to like in the book, the descriptions of northern England were particularly well done. I found it to be a well written book of enemies to lovers with a secondary romance of offer too. I really liked the premise of the book, basically a treasure hunt. The characters were well portrayed & had depth. However I just couldn't warm to Adam or Jane, I found that the chemistry was missing from their relationship & I found it very hard to believe they’d fallen in love. I’d definitely read more from the author
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Road trip anyone? I love a good road trip story and with a treasure hunt, snarky comments, a chaperone and a lawyer who have eyes for each other, this road trip will be a blast. The highlight of the story is the treasure hunt and the witty dialog. Although it is not a hard hunt for the main characters it is interesting to see how they work it out. Is this a romance? Debatable. I would have liked a lot more of the romance side interspersed with the hunt.
3.5 stars - This is a nice, clean historical romance with lots of accurate historical references and a poet or two thrown in for good measure. I prefer yummy s&x in my reads. If you do too, you may want to look elsewhere. If you don’t, this is the perfect read for you.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
