I’m a fan of Maas’ other series so I assumed that this series would be an easy enjoyable read. It absolutely became that but it took a while to get there. For some reason I couldn’t connect with the main character and the necessary backstory before we got to present day in the storyline.
Once I was finally able to engage with the characters I sped through the book and became eager for book 2.
As usual, Sarah J Maas is the queen or accessible fantasy. I did find this one a bit trickier to get into than her previous books but I can tell what goodness is to come. She writes great female characters that have strength and smarts and this one is no different. So far I adore Danika and Bryce's friendship and the vast characters and places I have come across so far.
Crescent City is a really interesting world, set in a fantasy modern day. There was so much info dumping in the first few chapters that made me put it down and walk away. I always came back to the same amount of info dumping. At points I did not mind as I was learning a new world. It was the characters that was the most irritating part of the excerpt. I did not like the two main characters at all.
House of Earth and Blood is the first book of SJM's Crescent City series. This is an incredible series with Bryce as our FMC and Hunt Athalar as our MMC. Love this book! If you have read SJM before, then you know that her plots can be complex. This book is probably her most complex to date. I love the chemistry between Hunt and Bryce as well as the banter of the secondary characters. Lehaba is my favorite! This book also gave me a new love of vacuum cleaners. IYKYK
This book was great. Unfortunately I am late to the game to review, but pacing was great. I have reread this book several times and I have it in audiobook.
This excerpt made me want to read the full book. As an SJM fan I was very excited to read this and it did not disappoint. The writing was great and it made you feel a slew of emotions.
Sarah J. Maas keeps creating new and exciting worlds you just want to be a part of! Bryce Quinlan's stories and the struggles she has to overcome as she find peace in herself, cares for the people around her and meets new friends, is one of my favorites. All of the characters, no matter their part, are given such strong personalities it feels as if I know all of them. The world building is intense, but as soon as it all comes together, Crescent City feels so alive and vibrant and REAL. I love this book and can't wait for the latest installment of the series to see where Bryce and her friend's adventures take them.
Fans of Sarah J Maas now have a new series to obsess over. She builds a world that is believable, uses strong female protagonists to fight for justice, and throw in a spicy romance on the side - you are in for a treat.
The excerpt got me really hooked my attention and got me interested to see where the rest of the book goes.
House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas is one of my favorite book series to date! The portion provided in this excerpt starts slow and is full of world building. I would recommend reading the remainder of the book because that’s where things get interesting and starts picking up.
It was good. I need the next one, I have many unanswered questions and I'm left wanting more... but, man, does this have pacing issues. I dragged myself through the first 500 pages. Once things started happening, though *chefs kiss*.
Sarah J. Maas really is the CEO of writing action seqeunces. The Godslayer Rifle/library scene nearly finished me. Amazing, excellent, sensational, all the adjectives. Did not see the plot twist(s) either.
I just wish it wasn't 800 pages. I've spent so long reading this novel I'm hesitant to pick up another. I feel like I'm betraying the characters by moving on, they're a part of me now. How do I remove this guilt? Help.
Loved this book. It was well written, the world building was fantastic, I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
I absolutely adored this book. The beginning is a bit slower than most of the author's other works, but she weaves together so many details to perfectly arrive at the setting of Crescent City, she also gives us a deep dive into the mind and heart of our main character, Bryce. Bryce Quinlan is a half fae/woman I would not want to be on the wrong side of, because she is fierce, brilliant, dedicated, and loyal to a fault. From the very beginning we know Bryce has so much more going on in her life than she ever allows herself to bring to the surface for others to see and as you read you find yourself desperate to know more, just like those around her.
This book is the beginning of an all new series in the Maas universe and it seems it is going to be off to a very wild start and I can't wait to see where we end up.
Thank you, NetGalley for allowing me to read this excerpt in exchange for my honest review.
Of course I had to preorder this! Anything by Sarah J Mass is a must read! The cover is absolutely stunning! I can’t wait to get my hands on it and enter tho new world!
A another book about fae #signmeup💖
This story truly drew me in. I never read Sarah J Maas but I heard so much about her work. Bryce Quinlan is such a great main character. The world that Maas creates is vast and intriguing. l cannot wait to read the full story.
Read this excerpt 2 years ago before its releases became intrigued and then really enjoyed it when I had the full book in my hands. The 800 pages felt dragging sometimes however.
Excited for this book, but this blurb isn't enough to properly judge it. Because of this, my star rating is technically based on the full book, but, since the review itself is supposed to be about the content provided here, I don't have much to review. That said, I did a review of this book once I got to read the entire book, and you can find that review here:

Would continue reading. Sad this wasn't the full book so I could better review it. I have enjoyed Sarah J Maas books in the past and imagine this would fall in that category.
A great start to a new series! I read the book in about two days. I found the setting fascinating. It's high fantasy, but has a modern setting (skyscrapers, technology, etc) in world set up similar to the Roman empire. There are also elements of Greek mythology (like the human area being called Asphodel Meadows) and Norse mythology (like the world being called Midgard). Diving right into book two!
