Dear Emmie Blue by Lia Louis
Oh, how I adored Emmie! What a wonderful and memorable character.
I went into this book without reading the synopsis and I am so glad that I did! There is something so beautiful that bloomed from it. I had no idea what I was in for and I fell in love with Emmie and all the supporting characters.
Thank you Netgalley and publisher for this copy!
UGH SUCH A GREAT READ!!! This book wasn't what I expected at all, but I fell in love with the main characters and the storytelling of Lia Louis. Looking forward to reading more by Louis!
I recently read Eight Perfect Hours and loved it, and then went back to read Dear Emmie Blue after seeing all the rave reviews, and man I loved this one too. It had such depth to it, and it really is more than a romance, but even better, it did not go how I expected, which I absolutely loved! I have nothing bad to say, it is such a great read. If I am not the last person to read this one, then I highly recommend you add this to your list and fix that now!
Thank you to Atria/Emily Bestler Books for the digital galley to review.
This one completely lost me. I know I’m a minority reviewer here but I’m trying to figure out where everyone loved it? I was bored and very disconnected.
On the one hand, I should be flattered that anyone is paying attention to what I am reading, but when I was offered this book based on another I previously liked, I was a teensy bit wary. I don't consider myself a huge romance fan, but this smacked of romance: boy meets girl, boy loses girl, etc. So yes, it was kinda that. But I, jaded as I am, fell for it. Completely. The story sucked me in so much that when I was offered another book by Louis, I didn't even look at the premise, I just said yes. I am behind on my review writing, but those 4 stars have been up since July, and, if it weren't for my now-defunct book blog, I would have had another platform to share my love for this book. Instead, I hope I have your attention here, and wherever else I come across my reading friends. Be kind to yourself, and read a book that loves you back.
Oh, Emmie Blue. 🎈 I absolutely adored you and this story. This is one of those books that you never want to end.
Initially I thought it would be like Julia Roberts in My Best Friend’s Wedding…. Emmie in shock learning her best friend is getting married. The best friend she is secretly in love with, but might not be who she’s always imagined.
The story was more than that, though. It was about finding that sometimes family is the people you choose and not the circumstances you’re born in. It was about resilience after trauma and how life altering it can be.
And I can’t share any more, because it might just be the book you need right now.
Trigger warnings: sexual assault
This book got you all wrapped up. Clear your schedule, because this will take a lot out of you - in the most positive way possible. What a great read, it gripe you completely and let’s you feel all the feels. Thank you!
I really enjoyed Eight Perfect Hours, so I was looking forward to this one. It’s not for me, though. Emmie deserved to be treated so much better than she was by Lucas. I wish she would’ve stuck up for herself. I’ll check out this authors future works, and I know this one is beloved by lots of readers - just isn’t for me.
Emmie released a red balloon into the sky when she was 16, and Lucas found the balloon and Emmie’s darkest secret. Now 30, Emmie is sure he will propose when instead Lucas asks her to be his best man at his wedding. Heartbroken, Emmie takes stock of her life and realizes she has been waiting on Lucas. Dear Emmie Blue is the story of Emmie’s journey to rediscover what she wants from her life.
I liked this SO much. It was so good, and I wished I had read it sooner!
Thanks to @NetGalley and Atria Books for my ARC!
Oh you have to read this book! It will make you cry and laugh and cry again and smile . The author does an amazing job bringing these characters to life. It’s a book that you have to let the story unfold and enjoy this journey of emotions . I must say the secondary characters are fantastic!
Emmie Blue was one of my favorite 2021 reads so far. And it came at the perfect time when I was in a huge reading rut and nothing would hold my interest. I have been recommending to all my friends.
Did anyone else think of My Best Friends Wedding when reading this? When Emmie releases a balloon with her email address this starts a long friendship that Emmie expects will end differently. I really really enjoyed this book.
Dear Emmie Blue by Lia Louis is such a delightful read. I am so thankful I read this one!
Thank you Atria Books
Cute chick-lit/contemporary romance. It's one of those books you can definitely see being made into a romantic comedy movie. While Lucas pissed me off near the end, I do love how it all played out, especially the epilogue! Though this book didn't really tug at my heart strings like many others have said, it was a really wonderful book.
I don't know how to rate this book to be honest. I had a hard time connecting to Emmie Blue at first, and the book was very predictable because the author made it that way (massive clues throughout the story). The ending was really touching, though, which moved the book from 3 to 4 stars for me.
I loved this sweet story of an awkward girl who finds true love, but not where she expected. Full of heart and self-exploration, it's a great read.
DNF - Did not finish. I decided not to keep reading this title because I did not connect with the writing or plot. Thank you, NetGalley and publisher for the early copy!
This is a great book about love and loss. I really enjoyed the 14 years later aspect of this where she's trying to hide her feelings.
Loved this book!!! When Emmie was 16 she release a red balloon into the sky with an note attached with her personal info & a secret. Weeks later, Lucas discovers the balloon on a beach in France. He immediately emailed Emmie starting an intense friendship. 14 years later Emmie is trying to hide the face that she is in love with Lucas & patiently waits for him to finally admit that she's the one for him. Because of this Emmie has pretty much neglected her life outside of this relationship. When Lucas tells Emmie he has a big question to ask her she assumes this is when he'll reveal his feelings for her. Of course nothing ever goes as planned. Emmie is about to learn some important lessons about life and love.
Lia Louis is a new-to-me author and oh my, I loved this book and can't wait to read some of her others! The characters are easily relatable and and Louis has a way of bringing them to life. I don't want to spoil the story for anyone, but all I can say is it had all the feels.. I was laughing and crying throughout. Great romance read and I don't read many romances!!
