This book was cute and loving. It tells the story of LuLu a woman who has her life together but is taking care of an ailing mother with altzeimers. This is a heartwarming story about a mother and daughter. I would recommend it.
I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy free of charge. This is my honest and unbiased opinion of it.
Thank you to Gallery Books for the advanced copy of How Lulu Lost Her Mind. The complexities of a mother-daughter relationship are humorously examined as Lou Ann takes over the care of her mother who is rapidly declining due to the Alzheimer's Disease which has taken control of her mind. The author tells an emotional story of love and self-sacrifice which could have been maudlin, but she invoked an array of kooky characters, strange scenes and an unusual setting which, when mixed together, tell a delightful story of a difficult illness. I laughed out loud through tears as I read about this journey of the end of a passionately lived life!
How Lulu Lost Her Mind is a reminder that families are not perfect. Lulu the Love Guru appears to have it all together but behind closed doors her beloved mom is struggling with Alzheimers. This is not a typical Rachel Gibson romance, but a lovely heartwarming story about a Mother and Daughter (with a side of romance). This story made me laugh out loud, and cry.
Such a cute book!
From the very beginning, I really liked the premise: I read pretty voraciously and I'd never read anything told from the perspective of any guru, let alone a motivational speaker on love. I thought Lulu was a really interesting character because she was so complicated and pretty much the opposite of stereotypical when you think of what a love guru would be. I also enjoyed the complicated family dynamic. I was surprised by how much more complex it was than I thought; I was expecting a much more shallow text tbh and I am very pleased.
Is it too early to choose my favorite read of the year? Because I think I just did! This book was impossible to put down and when I finally put it down, my mind kept wandering back to it and I just had to finish the story. This is the type of story that leaves you turning the pages with excitement and dread! Excitement as the story unfolds but dread that you're getting closer to the end and you don't want it to last. This is my first read by this author, but based on her writing, it absolutely will not be my last. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review. I will be sharing my review via goodreads and Amazon.
I liked this book, I didnt love it. I have been the caretaker of several family members . Parts of this book were spot on others not so much. That didn't stop me from reading and enjoying it for the most part. Its both funny and sad, sometimes at the same time.
First of all I LOVED the cover. I can't even explain to you what exactly it was about it but I just did. Truth be told, I have absolutely been that person who overlooked a book just because the cover was not eye catching. I know....I am ashamed of myself too.
I found the plot to be not only unique but also wildly entertaining. I mean I was hooked from the first page all the way through. If I could have read it all in one sitting I would have but pesky things like getting up early for work or family bonding kept getting in the way 😆. It reminded me of that series Hart of Dixie in all the best possible ways. If you don't know what this show is then take thyself to Netflix post right now!
This book had it all. It had humor, family drama, and everything in between plus a HEA. I give this 5 stars and highly recommend it.
Thank you so much for the copy of How Lulu Lost Her Mind. I tried to pick this one up a few times, but it did not keep my attention. I think it wasn't quite what I was expecting. It was too slow for me and fell flat. I have see many other favorable reviews, so I do believe it was just me.
Unfortunately, it did not work for me. Thank you again for the opportunity to read this one.
I will not be sharing my thoughts/reviews outside of Netgalley in a review
How could LuLu not lose her mind? HOW LULU LOST HER MIND by Rachel Gibson had me either laughing out loud or tearing up. When her mother has to leave her latest memory care home and asks her daughter to take her home, Lou Ann realizes that her time with her mother is running out and makes the decision to take a step back from her successful career and do as she asks, hoping to make some good memories while she still can. So, she packs up her mother, their newly-hired nurse, and some of their stuff and head to the family mansion in Louisiana.
I loved watching Lou Ann evolve from the impeccably dressed professional to the loosened up Southern girl navigating her mother’s dementia, the money-pit her mother inherited, a nurse with a secret, crazy parrot, and the bayou. It was gratifying to witness Lou Ann’s personal evolution as she discovered herself and her joy and her connection to her family, both past and present. I also enjoyed the evolution of her relationship with Simon, who became the friend she needed with a promise of future.
The was my first read by Rachel Gibson and it came at great time, providing a welcome escape. Once I started this unexpected and charming novel, I didn’t want to put it down. I look forward to reading more of Gibson’s work, especially if she continues to explore this genre.
Thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for an advanced copy of this novel. All opinions are my own.

A cute, fun, fast-paced read. The mother-daughter relationship was sweet, I enjoyed the setting in the Deep South of Louisiana, and the realities of the sadness of Alzheimer's was hilighted here in this book. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to read and review.
How Lulu Lost Her Mind by Rachel Gibson. Happy and sad moments in dealing with an elderly mom. A bit too much of the snarky comments but then that is how Lulu coped with the trials and tribulations of her life. An entertaining read with some LOL passages.
Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.
This book should be read by every mother and daughter. You will laugh at loud and cry. You will love Lou and Patty’s relationship. I can’t thank Netgalley enough for the ARC copy. This book makes you want to call your mom if you’re lucky enough to be able too.
Lulu the love guru has a successful business where she is traveling and publishing a book and just enjoying life. Then she receives a call from the living facility where her mother with Alzheimers is loving that she needs to come pick her up because she can’t stay there anymore.
Thinking it will be temporary, she picks her mom up. Little does she know, her mom will be staying with her permanently.
This was such a wonderful story about a mother and daughter. Lulu’s mom is not the easiest of people to live with but Lulu tries her best to make the best of it. It’s funny and sweet and heartwarming, and there’s also a little bit of romance of course. This was a sweet read and I’m so glad I got the opportunity to read it. Thank you #netgalley and #gallerybooks for an advanced copy of this book.
How Lulu Lost Her Mind had the most endearing characters. You absolutely could not help but like their original and spunky personalities. I loved how even though this book was about a daughter who was caring for her mother with Alzheimers, it also had humor tied in throughout. I enjoyed every page of this story, especially those that had me laughing out loud.
Five stars from me! Full of laugh out loud humor, love, and colorful characters. Lou Ann is the love guru. She has an extremely successful business where she provides advice on love, sex, and relationships. Her mother who has Alzheimer’s is kicked out of the facility she lives in because of her bad behavior. Her mother is very passionate and often shocking in her behavior. Suddenly Lou Ann finds herself traveling with her mother and taking care of her whether she wants to or not. She loves her mother but is equally frustrated with her. Lou Ann has always been organized and serious. But maybe even though she is the love guru, she can still learn a thing or two from those around her.
Great characters, a feel good story that is perfect for times like these. I really liked everyones relationship with one another. Thanks very much to the publisher and to the publisher for the copy!
Lou Ann is a successful business woman, who created her own brand, Lulu the Love Guru. Things are going great in her life. Until her mother, Alzheimer’s starts to get worse, and she needs to leave the home she’s in. Her mother Patrica is a big flirt and gets caught spooning a married man in the home! Lou Ann is now finding herself having to take care of her mom. Wanting to make her mother’s life as best as possible, they decide to move back to the family home in Louisiana. What could go wrong?
Oh my heart, this was such a beautiful and touching story about the family you’re born into and the family you choose. I loved the characters in this book. Lou Ann was very likable and relatable, and Patricia was hilarious! I loved the strong dynamic duo between the mother and daughter. The writing pulled me into the book immediately. It felt so real, I felt like I was there with the characters. This is a heavier read, but one I would highly recommend!
Thank you Netgalley for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
This story was enjoyable and made me laugh out loud several times. I enjoyed seeing the growth in the main character and loved the secondary characters. There was a part of the book that rang so tru for me I was giggling. A perfect summer day read.
I absolutely loved this book! It was filled with humor and heart-wrenching, realistic decisions. This is the story of Lou Ann and her mother Patricia. Lou Ann has made a good living by touting herself as Lulu the Love Guru, solving the relationship issues of others. Her mom is suffering from dementia and is willing to jump into a bed with any male in the nursing home who has a pulse. When Patricia is booted out of her nursing home (again), she asks Lou Ann to take her back to the family home in Louisiana. The tone was just perfect for this novel about forgiveness and mother-daughter relationships. In fact, I felt like Lou Ann was sitting across from me telling me all about her woeful story of living in a haunted mansion with her quirky mother. The setting added to the story, especially since it was via repairs for the old mansion that Lou Ann was able to meet Simon, the handy man who knew how to fix just about everything. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a light-hearted read. Yes, there are definitely some somber parts, when Lou Ann comes to the reality that we all must face, the fact that we are all mortal and she would one day not have her mother to grumble about. But for the most part, the book was funny and fast-paced with some real laugh aloud moments. Fans of contemporary fiction will enjoy this book.

This was a wonderful heart-warming story of a mother Patricia, suffering from Alzheimers, and her daughter Lulu, who is a successful business woman known as Lulu the Love Guru. Lulu's mom gets kicked out of yet another senior care facility, for spooning the male patients, which she states she can't help herself because she has a passionate nature. This had me laughing on multiple occasions and even in her old age she makes sure she's all dolled up and ready to flirt at all times. I couldn't believe the way the care facility just threw her out into Lulu's care with no notice that way but there was nothing Lulu could do to fix things. Here began the journey of mother and daughter and the effects the disease has on both their lives.
I thought the writing was beautifully detailed without going overboard and I felt truly invested in these characters and their relationship. Lulu's life had definitely been derailed temporarily but she came to understand that this time with her mother is time she can't get back. This drastic change in her life was what she needed to open herself up to everything around her outside of her business and see her life for what it truly was, work focused and lonely. This was a sad, heart felt, funny, eye-opening story with a touch of romance thrown in, which I felt the author did a great job of not making the main focus but rather a lovely coincidence on the side. I do recommend this book for anyone loving family based fiction.
