Three Perfect Liars was great! I loved how the reader had no idea what was happening at first. It began with the fire and the three characters had POVs that took place beforehand. We didn’t know if one of them started the fire and, if so, why. We weren’t sure how thee 3 characters were connected aside from having ties to Harry Wood, but what did that matter?

I loved how there were police transcripts of interviews in between the POVs as they interviewed employees at the company and the picture of what happened slowly began to emerge.

This book was a domestic thriller without being focused on secretive husbands or wives who drink too much wine and get suspicious, which was a nice relief. With Laura returning to a high stress job after maternity leave, she struggled to prove herself to her bosses while also struggling to balance motherhood and her career. I love that the book dealt with that issue a little more as Laura couldn’t quite find her place. I think the issue of career vs motherhood is an interesting one and I could emphasize with Laura as she tried to balance the two. Other moms can be so judgmental, while male bosses may tend to assume once you have a baby, you’ll be less reliable. Laura wanted the best of both worlds, but was constantly having to prove herself to everyone.

Mia and Janie were less open characters. Both of them seemed to be hiding something and I couldn’t quite figure either of them out for some time.

I loved the characters and how all of it came together as the three of them watched the office building burn.

This book is definitely filled with all kinds of twists and deceit that you don't see coming. This story has Heidi Perk's signature style of weaving a tangled web of deceit and twists until you definitely can't figure out what's going to happen or even guess. Told from three POV's we have Laura, who after getting back to work from maternity leave finds that the woman she hired to cover her during her leave has decided that she is staying and taking Laura's job with her. Mia, the cover woman is a woman out for vengeance but that vengeance isn't revealed to us for some time. Then there is Janie, her husband runs the company Laura & Mia work for but there is some shady stuff going on with her husband and Laura that she is not sure of. The result of Mia's vengeance scheme is something none of the key players thought it would turn out to be. Thank you to Netgalley & Gallery Book's for my honest review.

I gave this book 4 stars, well 3.75 because it was clever and I was very wrong about something I thought I was right about and that's always a good thing. This book is about three women and the title says it all. I could sit here and tell you the story, but just grab it. When I saw this I thought oh no another backstabbing story with lies, betrayal, and jealousy. It has all that but much more and told in a clever way!

Special thanks to Gallery Books and NetGalley for the ARC of this book.

Meet Laura, Mia and Janie. Three women who are in one way or another linked together by secrets, even though they don’t know each other well at all. The three are connected by a place of business, an advertising agency owned by Janie’s husband, Harry Wood. Laura and Mia work there. When the building goes up in flames, a body is carried out of the building, but whomever perished in the fire isn’t named until close to the end. All three women have motive and are suspects, but who actually did the deed will surprise you.

I wish I could say I liked this more than I did. The business aspects at the agency bogged it down for me, and I had a hard time keeping focused or caring about what was going on in that regard. The women themselves were more interesting, but if I’m to be truly honest, I didn’t much like any of the characters in this novel, with the exception of Laura’s husband Nate, the stay-at-home-dad raising an infant practically one handed while stifling his frustrations. His wife Laura took a 6-month maternity leave, but he took a leave of absence from his work so she could go back and try to reclaim her career which a temp employee, Mia seemed to have easily captured in her absence.

What I did like was the composition of the plot, the story told from the three perspectives, and the interviews by the detective of all, trying to solve the puzzle of the arson. There is plenty of suspicions going ‘round, jealousy and resentment, but underlying it all is a complex situation not disclosed until close to the end.

I wouldn’t classify this as a thriller myself, but more of a mystery. The second half reels the reader in and has us wondering if we’ve actually succeeded in guessing who did it.... and whether the relationships revealed in the lives of these three women survived the fire, or were they also left in ashes.

Thank you to NetGalley, Heidi Perks and Gallery Books for this ARC.

This story was just ok for me. It was a little slow at first, and the ending seemed unsatisfying. Well written, but poorly paced.

Three Perfect Liars by Heidi Perks is definitely a must read for people who like "who-done-it" stories. Ms. Perks gives you teeny tiny glimpses into what had previously happened to the main characters, but even if you put them all together and think you know what happened, you are probably not correct. The end was a startling revelation, but if you think back to all the tiny clues, it entirely works.

I have not researched if Heidi Perks has written any previous novels, but if she did, I will be reading those and anything she writes in the future.

The book started a little slow and I found the office drama a little tiresome, but only until things began to get underway.

What I found relatable was the work-life struggles of mothers. I think it captured the expectations of both working mothers and stay-at-home mothers well. I felt their frustrations fully.

4 Stars!

Three Perfect Liars will take you on a journey into the lives of three women. Laura - new mother, returning to work after 6 month maternity leave. Mia - Laura's "temporary" replacement while on maternity leave. Janie - wife of the company's owner, Harry. The story begins with the office building burning to the ground and flashes backward to the day of Laura's return from maternity leave. The story is also told through transcripts of the police interviews. Which one of these women could have started the fire?!?

I loved this story and how you're left in the dark throughout the majority of the book. It is very well written and keeps you turning pages. I thoroughly enjoyed how all the peoples perspectives were woven into the retelling by the police interviews and the complexities surrounding how everyone's lives were entwined.

I look forward to checking out more of Heidi Perks's books.

A special thank you to NetGalley, Gallery Books, and Heidi Perks for providing me with an ARC.

I absolutely loved it from start to finish. In less than twenty four hours I gobbled up the lives of three incredible woman. Mia. Janie. Laura. It was amazing to see how their lives were lived. Intertwined. How strangers became .... not strangers. If you need a light read during the pandemic. Something to take to the beach/pool. To take your cares away. This is definitely something that will help you escape. I promise. I think Heidi Perks is a #newfavoriteauthor #thatendingtho #bookstagram #booklover #bookaholic #bookish #booksofinstragram #booksof2020

Three Perfect Liars is the story of three women, Laura, Mia & Janie and their lives before and after a fire at the Morris and Woods Advertising Agency, where Laura and Mia work and where Janie's husband is the CEO.

Laura took 6 weeks off from work to stay home with her newborn, Bobby. She returns to find Mia, the temp she hired to manage her job in her absence still there, hired for full time work and to continue to manage her biggest account. She struggles daily with why her boss, Harry, would keep her on and allow her to take over the way she has and begins to investigate what is going on. This challenges both her work life and her ability to balance this with her new roll as a mother.

Mia has reasons for wanting to do Laura's job while she is away and for wanting to stay on. No one sees this, except for Laura as Mia made sure she was indispensable to the company. She is determined to see her way through what she has come for, but what is that exactly?

Janey moved to Lymington with Harry to support him in his career and take care of the children. She had been a Barrister before, but her last case took the winds out of her sails, and being in Lymington allows her the option not to work. She has filled up her time with yoga and coffee with her women friends, but she is not quite happy with her new life, or with her husband.

The lives of all three women are irrevocably changed the night that the Morris & Wood building burns. However, this one night is the culmination of so many other things, and questions may be answered as to what is really going on by the time you reach the novel's end.

I really wanted to love this book. However, it fell a bit short of that expectation for this reader. The book did not move as quickly as it should have and I found it hard to care about what really happened. When it did become clear, it did not feel like everything was well explained, so the resulting end left a little to be desired. I found Laura to be annoying with the way she was laser focused on Mia, which made her seem a bit on the paranoid side. Mia was a bit of an enigma until late in the book, and could not connect to her until her role was made clearer. The only character I found myself liking and feeling for was Janey, who it seemed was getting the short end of the stick, despite seemingly "having it all."

While I did not fall in love with this book, it was certainly readable, and the last 3rd was especially good as things began to be revealed. You will have to be the judge on this for yourself.

Three women, one man, and then a fire that burned down the entire building two of the women work in.

We meet Laura, Mia, and Janie.

Laura had a high profile position and even worked on her advertising campaign while she was on maternity leave. When she returns, she finds Mia has taken over the entire campaign and her desk.

Mia is a temp now turned permanent and loved by the office staff and her boss. Mia is doing a marvelous job on the campaign that Laura was in charge of, but she keeps something secret about why she needed and wanted this job.

She doesn’t tell anyone about her personal life or where she lives because she lies about that.

Janie is the wife of the owner of the company where Laura and Mia work, unhappy in her marriage, and has something from her past she would like to forget.

The building where Laura and Mia work was a building no one wanted in the city before it was even built. When it burns down with one casualty, was it arson or just an accident?

There is jealousy, hatred, and a sinister undertone from the opening page…all good traits for a thriller.

You will be on the edge of your seat every time you see Laura and Mia together battling things out in their minds and wondering just what could really be the reason for this tension between the two women. Sure it is work, but there seems to be something else.

And then the party at Harry's happened - it got loud as Laura let loose on Mia and called her a liar.

THREE PERFECT LIARS was quite tense and oh so good.

If you enjoy not knowing what is really going on with the characters because you know something is….

….if you enjoy knowing one of the characters is the biggest fake and troublemaker and everyone is not seeing it….

….if you enjoy knowing the characters don't seem to be who they really are and know most are hiding something, telling lies, and have secrets, then this book will check all the boxes. 5/5

This book was given to me by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I was drawn to this book because of the title, and it did not disappoint. The story is a slow burn (pun intended) of events leading up to the fire, as we get to know the key players. I can see this one being made into a film. Recommended.

The story opens with a body being pulled out of a burning office building under, what the reader is led to believe, are suspicious circumstances.
Through interviews with the investigating detective and flashbacks of all the drama leading up to the event, we find out what occurred.
The problems seem to start when Laura returns from maternity leave and finds that her temporary replacement, Mia, has become permanent and is taking over her job. Laura feels betrayed by her boss and undermined by Mia. She compensates by working long hours, neglecting her family, trying to dig up dirt on Mia and being generally miserable.
On the flip side, everyone loves Mia. She comes across as a friendly, motivated team player, Who wouldn’t want to replace Laura with her? But Mia has a whole different life once she leaves the office that isn’t nearly as enviable (struggling to make ends meet with her mother and troubled sister) and she is determined not to let anyone find out about it.
The last perfect liar is Janie, wife of Laura and Mia’s boss, Harry. She’s basically a rich, unhappily married stay-at-home mom who feels unfulfilled not working, but unhappy about the work she was doing. She also has a secret in her past, but since she’s not a very exciting character, I didn’t spend much time thinking about what it might be.
Overall, I’d say the story was ...pretty good. There are certainly more compelling thrillers out there with characters that evoke more sympathy or interest. The ending also seemed like a bit of a letdown after an eight-week buildup. However, it was a quick read and good enough if you’re looking for something easy between your meatier reads.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Morris & Wood has caught fire and there is many questions surrounding it. Three women, each carrying their own secrets, stand accused. What do they know and did they really do it? Great thriller and terrific writing.

I enjoyed how there were the interview transcripts in different sections of the books. I love when books put different mediums in their work to help amplify the storyline. It really set the tone.

There is a lot happening behind the scenes that really doesn’t make sense until you’re about 85% in. It’s kind of anti-climatic, and I felt like Laura was annoyingly paranoid. I felt for her at first, because I know what it’s like to have your position stay the same... but not after maternity leave. But the paranoia was a bit much. I wish it would have centered more around Laura doing more to unveil the truth about Mia. Her calling the former employer and the Facebook stalking had me itching in anticipation, but that’s all there was.

This does have a great message on workplace gender roles and workplace harassment. I’ve worked for the “good ole boys” before, and this was very realistic. I also appreciated how they tackled the subject or rape and a victim coping from such a heinous act.

Overall, this was a good read. I wish there was more in depth on Mia’s intentions, or Janie’s previous work, or Laura and Harry’s relationship. If my boss lied to me the way Harry did, I would not have gone back.

Thank you NetGalley and Galley books for the ARC!

Heidi Parks has crafted a clever and intriguing psychological thriller that traces the goings on of three disgruntled women who all have an interest in a fire that savagely devours an upscale ad agency’s tony building on Britain’s south coast. Persons of interest include the agency’s CEO Harry Woods’s wife, the former lawyer, Janie. Laura Denning returns from maternity leave to find her job has been usurped by Mia Anderson, a devious and enterprising manipulator who has apparently replaced her in the affections of said Mr. Woods, as well as in a very lucrative position in the firm. Janie has reason to hate both of them and her husband for their notorious philandering.

Woods, apparently with restless amorous leanings, has managed to piss off each of them to the extent that a revenge fire would be extremely likely to occur, given their devious natures. You won’t like any of the characters in this book, but that’s the beauty of the prose and the concept. There’s no reason to have any affection for them and their deviousness adds to the plotline. The reader will eagerly turn pages to find out where it all goes and the final bombshell is quite unexpected.

This is an intriguing page-turner that I have no problem recommending. I think you will like it.

Great read. This book had me hooked right from the start. It had the perfect amount of mystery and characters, suspects. There were twists and turns and it had me guessing until the end. I will definitely be reading more from this author. Thanks to NetGalley for the privilege to read and review this book.

The newest office building in the area burns down and now it is time to find out who had the right motives to do it. But what if there are multiple women with all different motives as to why they would want to see it burn. I was really invested in these women and what got under their skin enough to make them lash out. This was a quick read and was pretty easy to follow along with. Would recommend if you are looking for a good mystery but nothing scary.

A really good mystery told in the voice of three women whose lives are woven together by a reason not immediately revealed. A good tactic employed by the author to keep the reader guessing. The story opens with the arson of a large advertising agency, Morris and Wood and the questioning of employees to find the perpetrator. The list of suspects include Laura Denning, the top account executive who is returning to work after a six month maternity leave only to find her temporary replacement has been permanently hired and taken over her job; Mia Anderson, the replacement who has a hidden agenda for taking the job; and Janie Wood, the wife of the agency’s CEO. This is a slick, well written mystery with complex female characters that is hard to put down.
