While the concept is great, and the creative approach to telling the story is unique, I didn't like or connect with a single character. I'm not sure if Laura was written to be so exceptionally irritating or not, but her chapters were nearly unbearable. Based on the weirdly unrealistic lack of communication between all the characters, there is a small amount of tension, but I skimmed to the (unsatisfying) ending.
Thank you, NetGalley for providing my a free copy to read.
3.5 really. I just could not get into it. The last 15-20% was great, when things started falling in line but up until that point, I really struggled trying to hang in. Maybe it was that there were multiple backstories. Or the petty office feud.... but this was not this author’s best work. She has done much better in the past. Sorry🤷🏼♀️
This one wasn’t for me. Too many characters made it confusing and hard to follow. Overall a decent book but not something I would recommend
Laura, Mia and Janie - three perfect liars indeed! This was a slow burn novel, building up and keeping me guessing to the point it was hard to put it down. Narratives of the witness interviews are included to spice things up. This will be a great summer beach read, and is a page turner!
I received an ARC of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
An controversial advertising agency is burned to the ground and three women are suspects in the arson. This novel opens at the fire and then goes back I time to get to know the women and analyze their motivations.
Enjoyable whodunnit set in the New Forest area of southern England (where my husband grew up). The story is centered around a successful advertising agency that moved its headquarters from London to Lymington. The story begins when one of the account execs at this agency returns from maternity leave to find her main account now being covered by the woman she employed temporarily to cover her leave. The head of the agency fails to see any problem with this. A good plot with a few twists.
Very clever web of connections that Perks has woven together into a sordid tale. It only took me a couple days to read this because it was quite engrossing. This isn't my usual type of book, as I'm usually reading non-fiction and memoirs, but this one caught my eye since I've been watching Little Fires Everywhere. This book just seemed exactly like the type of thing that Reese Witherspoon would pick up for her book club or as a TV series. There's nothing Earth shattering about it, but it's a good read and I'm glad I picked it up.
Three Perfect Liars by Heidi Perks was as good as I hoped it would be! After reading and loving Her One Mistake, I was so eager to read the newest book from this author. Heidi Perks is a really great writer and I was not disappointed.
Three women, each have their own reason for wanting the building of Morris and Wood to burn down. The building has completely ruined the beautiful view of Lymington Quay and the residents of the area don’t like it. Many would be thrilled to see it gone…
When a fire destroys the building, there are three glaring suspects:
Laura takes her job and career very seriously and has worked hard to get ahead. When she returns from maternity leave, she feels the tug of leaving her baby behind and is on edge feeling that she has to prove herself all over again. She is upset to find her temporary replacement is now a permanent fixture and might be trying to steal Laura’s job.
Mia was the temp hired to fill in for Laura but she’s doing a great job and is well-liked around the office so she’s been invited to stay on. Does she have a secret reason for wanting to continue her employment at Morris and Wood?
Janie is the wife of the man who runs Morris and Wood, Harry. She’s got her own secrets and burdens that she carries with her.
The story flips between past and presents and leads up to the day of a big party at Janie and Harry’s house. I was guessing to figure out who started the fire and why. The suspense built throughout the book until the very end when I was left looking forward to the next book from this author!
Really good book! Due out on April 30!
WOW! Loved this book! It is suspenseful and keeps you guessing to the very last page. My first Heidi Perks book, but will definitely not be my last. Highly recommend!
Thank you to netgalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
Woooow Laura is the worst. What an annoying character. But I couldn’t stop reading! Definitely kept me guessing as to who set the fire and why. A perfect read for covid-19 quarantine!
Incredible and riveting. Couldn't put it down, and a truly shocking ending. Highly recommend and ten stars to this author for plot, characters, writing style. And anything else that goes into making a book great. Ten stars!!!!!!!
I really enjoyed this book. With all that's going on in the real world, I have been hunkered down reading, and this just happened to be the first book I chose to read..... and now it is going to be difficult for other books to come after this one! I was fully invested in the characters, and truly wanted the best for Mia, Laura and Janie.... speaking of, this is a timely book, since it deals with topics such as rape culture, men in powerful positions taking advantage of women, solidarity in women, etc. It was just all around very well done and extremely hard to put down. 5/5 stars, easily.
Perfect Escapist Fiction!
With what the world is going through at a time like this, everyone needs an escape; a reprieve. This book took me far away from what is going on outside my front door. It was exactly what I needed. I was guessing every moment and I couldn't predict what was to come next. It was dark and suspenseful. The only thing that would have made this book better would have been more relatable characters. I would have appreciated more of a deep dive into the character's past histories. With that being said, this was a home run! Four/Five stars.
I thoroughly enjoyed Heidi Perks first book (Her One Mistake) and thought it would be hard to top. However, she outdid herself with Three Perfect Liars. I read this in one sitting and thought it was a fantastic novel. I cannot wait to recommend this new book (as I have been talking up her first book to everyone who will listen), Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advanced copy.
This story was absolutely riveting, after thinking I had figured everything out seven different times, and realizing at the end I was wrong everyone of them. I will be recommending this for our book club and to anyone wanting something new to read that you can sink into. Absolutely great story!!!!
Mia was only supposed to be a temp at Morris and Wood while Laura was on maternity leave. But now with Laura due back, it appears Mia has no intention of leaving. She’s managed to captivate everyone at the firm, making the thought of her leaving impossible. But Laura knows the truth, one that would destroy Mia’s credibility and make her lose her allies. Meanwhile, Janie, wife of the CEO at Morris and Wood has sacrificed everything for her husband’s career, and she’s not about to let anyone or anything destroy her creation. Three very different woman, all smart, savvy and unwilling to backdown; you just know a showdown is in the offing
