Three women caught up in a world shaped by men and keeping secrets. As they work against each other they are only endangering themselves. It is a twisted tale of trying to figure out who the culprit is and what the motivation is for what they are doing. By using a reverse timeline the author build the tension in spades as the reader turns the pages.
Thank you so much for this ARC!
This book was awesome! I really enjoy reading the point of views of the different women and I LOVE a good domestic suspense. The ending was such a surprise, I did not see it coming whatsoever. I was obsessed with finding out who was responsible for the fire.
Three Perfect Liars is as if Big Little Lies and Little Fires Everywhere had a book baby. :)
Keep writing Heidi!
I wanted to like this, but the writing was so stilted and artificial. I wasn't able to finish it. The characters just didn't seem real.
Thoughtful presentation of the dilemma of whether to stay-at-home or go back to a high flying career. You can never really have it all but should you try? And what about the fallout? Each of these three women are complete individuals who have their own stories and problems. They are The Three Perfect Liars. Easy read with twists and turns along the way.

Suspenseful but not my favorite book. Thanks to Net Galley and Gallery books for the ARC of this book.
I would try to read this author again, but this one didn't impress me much.
3 star
A fire is blazing. A beautiful, architecturally perfect building is burning to the ground. A body is carried out. And in the dark, across the river a woman is watching.
The first chapter of Three Perfect Liars begins eight weeks before the fire, moving quickly week by week to destruction of Morris and Wood. It is interspersed with the expected police interviews that provide background information both to the police and the reader. The three women, all of whom have lied about events that led to the fire, are Laura Denning, Mia Anderson and Janie Wood. Laura returns to her job as Marketing Director of Morris and Wood after maternity leave to discover that her temporary replacement, Mia Anderson, is still there. Worse yet, she now has a permanent position and has been assigned Laura’s most important client. Company founder Harry Wood has no explanation for this. Meanwhile, his wife Janie, a troubled former defense lawyer, is preparing for the upcoming company party. Who would want to burn down a landmark building? Why? What is Laura hiding from her husband? Why does Mia want Laura’s job? And what happened to Janie five years ago?
Three Perfect Liars is a mystery full of drama. Office politics, sexual harassment, motherhood, career advancement and marriage are only a few of the topics covered. Heidi Perks has seamlessly blended all that with a twisty story that will keep you reading into the night. 5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley, Gallery Books and Heidi Perks for this ARC.
Three women with different stories caught in the middle of the fire, who did it? There’s so much tension throughout this book, and I found myself not wanting it to end. Laura, Mia, and Janie are all relatable, their life struggles are very realistic, and their actions is not something that doesn’t make any sense. Characters and plot are well-developed, tons of unexpected turn of events, and overall enjoyable read.
I was quickly hooked by this story. It felt unique and I loved how it began to flow. The chapters alternated between three women at different time frames before the fire. They were broken up with current day police interviews regarding the arson.
It doesn’t always take a thriller to hold my interest, since I’m curious by nature. And for me, this was not a thriller. I kept reading because I was curious. The writing was excellent and the characters and their emotions rang true.
Obviously, someone set fire to the Morris and Wood building. But who? This story slowly unwinds, which could be a problem for some. And to be honest, I would have been happier with a little more tension and excitement.
All in all, I’d say good writing carried me through the story more than the plot. The plot was interesting but felt a bit drug out.
What Concerned Me
There were areas that felt a bit far fetched. Especially, the last part of the book. On one hand, the explanation at the end felt long and drawn out. And on the other hand, there were places where more explanation would have helped. With more details, perhaps certain happenings at the end might have felt more believable.
For me, the end felt like the weakest part of the book.
What I Liked Best
The presentation of the story immediately drew me in. I loved chapters by three women’s POVs at various weeks leading up to the fire, and current detective interviews interspersed between the chapters
Heidi Perk’s writing style is definitely worth taking a look at. Though Three Perfect Liars wasn’t my favorite of Perk’s books, I would certainly not pass it up.
My thanks to #NetGalley and #Gallery for an ARC of this book and the ability to post a review of my opinion of it.
Rating
3.5 but I round up
Reminiscent of Big Little Lies, Three Perfect Liars has a pivotal event, a fire, and the story is told both in the present and in the past, leading up to the event. Three females each have their own secrets - Laura who is returning from maternity leave to a high pressure job in an advertising agency, Mia, who has been her temporary replacement and has taken over, and Janie, whose husband owns the agency. The tension is taut throughout the book, especially when secrets are revealed at the end. I did appreciate the interviews with the police as some secrets were revealed. At times I found myself having to reread sections to make sure I was understanding what was going on. Still find myself pondering all three womens’ lives ...
Laura has just returned from maternity leave and is livid to find someone else sitting at her desk. Okay, I get that. It’s awkward.
And while her boss does give her back her desk immediately, he is keeping the women who she hired to just fill in for her while she was on maternity leave, permanently. And he is giving the new girl their most important client.
Oh the horror. And I really should identify with Laura, but she seems so unlikeable. Mia, the “temp” has befriended everyone in the office, won over the client and seems to have the best intentions, so what if she came across the job in a different way.
Then there is Janie, the boss’s wife. She was a prominent defense attorney but left to be a stay at home mom in the burbs when her husband builds an office there. Hmm. Why? That doesn’t add up. Unless she had enough of the rat race and was just done?
So which is the protagonist? Who’s the antagonist? Well, just like in any office with all the politics, there isn’t a clear cut answer.
I really enjoyed Three Perfect Liars. I totally identified with the characters and their struggles and enjoyed the well-place twists and turns. So much of the readability of a book relies upon the characters, and Perks nailed them. She writes from the perspective of three super relatable characters with real-life struggles. It’s super readable.
And I haven’t even said anything yet about the fire. Just like in Little Fires Everywhere, the narrative arc is set around a fire. Who started it and why. And who did the fire claim? It works so well as a catalyst who cares if it’s been done before
Special thanks to Netgalley and Gallery Books for an e-galley in exchange for my honest review. This one releases today. My review will be published on my blog, Women in Trouble Book Blog on August 18,
Three Perfect Liars..what can be said about this story? The characters first off, where like really people, real problems, real lives they came alive for you as you continue to read and get to know . For sure, they have their own personality. As you get to know the people in this story it helps to try and figure out who and why this fire was started in the first place..Using your detective common sense, see if you can figure out who did this and why..It was a slow read for me in the beginning but started to get better.. Follow these three people and see what happens, the ending should I tell you will surprise you! Enjoy the book!!
I thought this book was well done. It reminded me of The Whisper Network meets Big Little Lies, and it was a quick, interesting read. I liked the way it moved between the narrative and the transcripts, and the ending was not at all what I expected. That said, some of the characters got on my nerves a lot and it made me, at times, not care at all what happened to them.
Classic whodunit with so many twists and turns. Very well written but a little slow in spots. Good character development and I have to say its really nice to read books set in Europe rather than America. I would read future books by this author!
Heidi Perks does an excellent job of pacing, compelling readers to read on in this entertaining whodunnit. As the book opens, Morris & Wood, a successful advertising agency, is a blazing inferno and someone is watching it burn to the ground.
The story is told from the alternating POVs of three women and through trancripts of interviews conducted by the detective assigned to investigate the fire.
Laura Denning, an account director at Morris & Wood, returns from maternity leave to find that her temporary replacement seems to have made herself quite at home during her absence and has no plans of leaving. Stunned, Laura appeals to her boss, Harry Wood, and discovers that she no longer seems to have his ear as she did before. Already feeling torn between home and work, she finds herself in the unexpected position of having to prove herself again to get meaningful work assignments. This leaves her reeling. Hurt and angry, she'll do what it takes to get her replacement fired and regain control of her clients. The more obsessed she gets with this, and the longer hours she works, she realizes that she is putting her marriage at jeopardy. Something's got to give. What will it be?
Mia Anderson, the replacement, has a hidden agenda from the start. She plays up to staff and clients alike to get her closer to her true goal. She puts on a good show of being friendly and interested in others, but no one really knows her as they think they do. What is she after?
Janie Wood, Harry's wife, gave up a powerful job as a defense barrister in London to follow him to New Forest where he fought the locals to build his new and stunning office building. She has tried to keep busy and be content with caring for their two daughters, Lottie and Ella (who attend a private primary school), her friends in the coffee club, and her yoga, golf, and mindfulness lessons. But, truth be told, she feels as if she is not using even 1/5th of her potential and her resentment adds yet another issue to her looks-perfect-on-the-outside but unhappy marriage.
Everything comes to a head at the annual party Harry and Janie Wood host at their home for Harry's staff. It is a night that the attendees won't forget. Days later, the fire occurs. Whodunnit?
I enjoyed how the author takes the reader back and forth in time, detailing events before the fire through the voices of the women, and after the fire via the interviews transcripts. All of the characters are realistic and fully human with both flaws and redeeming qualities. Read and enjoy!!
My thanks to NetGalley and Gallery Books for allowing me to read a copy of the book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. All opinions expressed here are my own.
4/5 stars
Three women are suspects to the burning of Morris & Wood. They all have their reasons and their own opportunities, but who did the deed in the end?
After some(aka a lot) of procrastination, I finally finished this book! Anyways, here's my review.
The characters are a weird topic—the main ones(Laura, Janie, and Mia) are amazingly developed in terms of personality, motive, and their current life, though it just stops at some point. Same thing goes for the side characters, some development, then it somehow stops. The book(mainly the ending and interactions) could be much more impactful if there was that little bit more.
Though what you *do* get is pretty nice, and you get a good idea of each character and its fun trying to get who did it.
The writing is honestly amazing—you can feel the drama and feeling in each interaction, and it's fairly descriptive. Its intriguing and keeps you hooked, and I liked the authors approach to sensitive subjects(though I can't say since I feel like I'll accidentally get into spoiler territory :/)
It was also nice going through the three POV's, and you were always just turning the page to get to the next one.
The ending was nice and satisfying, and I really was surprised at what happened. I just felt off in a way I can't explain.
Overall: Three Perfect Liars is a novel with well-developed characters, a gripping plot, and amazing writing, and is one of the better thriller books you can read. Like I said above, this gets a 4/5 stars from me.
It takes a little while to figure out the format and timeline on this book because you almost start at the end the go back and forth with each character in the weeks before the main event. The police interviews in between were a little quirky but you have to read them to gain more insight into the event as it happened. (Overview on cover and other's reviews give detail on story.) It keeps you guessing right up to the end and and only then do you figure out who are the liars! Brings to light office politics, gossip, rumors, back stabbing, women in a male dominate workplace, It almost took too long to get around to the event that pulled people into a particular place and at a particular time. After you find the rhythm it moves along and is a quick read. I liked the book, I just didn't love it.
I was provided an Advanced reader copy of the book and was under no obligation to provide a review. The opinions expressed are my own. Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
Three Perfect Liars by Heidi Perks begins with a 5 year old building burning to the ground. It was considered an eyesore by local residents causing many protests before it was built. But the building went up anyway, in it resided the company Morris and Wood’s, with CEO Harry Wood at the top. When a body is pulled from the burned building, questions start to arise as to whether this was an intentional fire. There are three main suspects, all with good reasons for wanting revenge. One of the first of three women is Janie Wood, wife of the CEO. Five years ago she left her courtroom career in London in order for her husband to build his business. Janie became a stay at home mom, taking care of her two daughters, never regretting that part, but questioning if giving up her own career ambitions were really fair. She also suspects her husband is having an affair with one of his employees.
Next is Laura. Laura is the only woman in a management position in the company. She goes on maternity leave after having her first child, and hires a temporary employee to take care of her position in her absence. When her six month maternity leave is up, her and her husband make the decision for her to return to work full time and her husband, Nate, will become the stay at home dad to newborn, Bobby. When Laura returns to wok, she learns her temporary hire, Mia, has done such a great job Harry decides to keep her on permanently...but also giving her Laura’s biggest account. Laura becomes obsessed with Mia, she is jealous, angry, and destroying everything she loves in her wake of misery.
Then we have the third suspect, Mia, who is Laura’s new ‘replacement’. She quickly becomes Morris and Wood’s most popular employee. She gets along with everyone, tries to be the best employee, but has a secret she is keeping as to why she is really so interested in this particular company. While being friendly with all her fellow employees, someone confides in her about harassment going on in the workplace, and she is determined to make those responsible pay for it. While she keeps her personal life a secret, Laura is determined to find out exactly what Mia is up to.
As interviews between all the employees take place, the detective in charge quickly realizes these three women are holding back on the truth of what really happened the night of the fire. Each character has very specific reasons for wanting revenge, but are they all working together to hide the truth?
The story is told between the three points of view, as well as the investigation and questions by DC Emily Marlow on the case. It easily grabs your interest to find out what the heck happened. The secrets reveal themselves at a nice pace throughout the story, but I found it sometimes jumped from past to present and felt a little lost. The overall story does touch on the issue of rape, harassment in the workplace, and just some generally not nice characters. I wasn’t really a fan of any character, although I enjoyed the story overall. The ending was a bit underwhelming, I was hoping for a little more umph...but it fell a little flat. For this reason, I would give this book a 3.5 stars round up to 4.
I would like to thank Netgalley, Penguin Publishing and Heidi Perks for an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you NetGalley and Gallery Books for an early copy. This was a really good book, it kept me very interested. Great plot and I liked the characters. The last page i was blubbering, it was so unexpected to me. I cant wait to read more books from Heidi Parks.
What a heated, fiery and blazing hot thriller! **literally**
I absolutely loved this book. Morris and Wood Offices are on fire. The building is perfectly new: could it be an arson? This question is an especially burning one (ha!) because a body is pulled out from the scene..
The narrative is masterfully put together. After we learn about the fire, the story goes back to eight weeks prior, where events begin to unfold. Specifically, the book has 3 female narrators: Laura, Mia and Janie, all of whom would have had strong motifs to start a fire in pursuit of revenge. To protect themselves, THEY ARE ALL LIARS, and pretty bad ones at that!
This novel was thrilling from beginning to end; the twists and lies are just so cleverly crafted. The characters are very likable and intriguing, so I wish the book was longer (dear Heidi Perks, please write a sequel).
*Thank you to the Publisher for a free advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
When a body is pulled out of an office fire, three women are first in line for questioning.
All of them have reasons for wanting revenge against the company’s CEO.

I wish the ending would have been a little different.
