Maggie doesn't believe that her mother Rebecca just tripped and fell to her death and so she appeals to PI Roxane Weary for help. This mystery takes Roxane to unexpected places, including a cult, for answers. I liked this more for Roxane who has a messy family and romantic life although, I gotta admit, I got a little confused in spots because I've only read one of the preceding novels. Thanks for the ARC. A good read.

I did not finish this one, it was not for me, I couldn't relate to the characters, and just did not care for the story.

Unfortunately, this one fell a little flat for me. I had a hard time connecting with the characters. By the end of the book, I was left feeling like I was missing something.

I wish I had read the other books in the series before picking this one up. Having said that, I had so much fun jumping into the series with this one. It's the internal monologue that really does it for me in this story. Very well written story!

Fourth in the Roxanne Weary series, one of my favorite female PIs, and the series propels forward with an intricate mystery, full of clues that all add up by the end. What fun it is to get there too. All the characters are interesting and usually with a surprise twist about them. Roxanne is hired by the daughter of a hiker who supposedly was tripped by her dog and plunged to her death. All is not easily explained away and Roxanne finds herself trundling back and forth in Ohio and crossing the border to Canada collecting clues. She is dogged and smart and a worthy successor to the classics PIs.

Once You Go This Far by Kristen Lepionka is the fourth book in the Roxane Weary, but my first read of the series. In typical Arianna fashion, I picked this up before realizing it was part of a series. But in this case, it did not take away from my reading enjoyment at all.

As a big thriller and mystery reader, it's really great to see books with diverse characters and plotlines that not only bring the suspense but also tackle important and topical subjects like reproductive rights, race and sexuality. While this book came out last year, the focus on reproductive rights is even more top of mind right now.

I really enjoyed the plot, centered around a cult-adjacent religious organization. We also get glimpses into Roxanne's family and past and I'm intrigued to learn more.

I'm glad I came across this series and look forward to past and future books. Thank you to Minotaur and Netgalley for the eARC to read and review. This is out now!

I love this series, but I love it less with each book. I've read them all but it's been over a couple of years and I was so frustrated trying to remember who characters were from the earlier books and what happened in the cases she referenced. This one had a ton of characters with complicated names and interlocking stories, and I kept forgetting who on earth I was reading about. The protagonist is also getting less messy and fun as time goes on, but not really growing up very much. She was a hot mess in the first book or two and I appreciated it. Now she's sort of in this sort of immature limbo that just sort of drags for me. The ultimate mystery part of this felt weird to me too, not believable at all and like typecasting. At the end I was kind of like.... Um, okay, I don't buy that these people would do most of this but fine. I still enjoy the series, but I'd like to see it get a little kick in the next book (which I'm assuming there will be, whether it's been picked up yet or not).

Another great installment in the Roxane Weary series! I think with each book that the series just gets better and that's largely in part because Roxane is just such a fantastic character with so much heart and soul who has shown so much character growth through the course of the four books instead of staying stagnant like some series MCs. She's multilayered, complex, and extremely realistic, which I've loved from book one.

If you've read these books before, you know you're in for a smart, thrill-ride of a mystery. The action is fast-paced, the plot is always on point, and the writing is A+. You don't have to read these books in order since Lepionka gives context when mentioning previous events and characters, but I think that you're definitely missing out if you don't since the books are so great, and reading the backstory is way better than just getting the info in bits and pieces, in my opinion.

I highly recommend Once You Go This Far and hope to see more from one of my favorite detectives in the future!

I'm so glad that I discovered Kristen Lepionka one day when I pulled The Last Place You Look off my library's shelf as I've grown to love her writing more and more with each Roxane Weary title. I just love the mix of grit and fortitude and the heart that is in every story. Roxane is a complex character and one that isn't easy to like but I love how this series embraces her flaws and how she even sometimes manages to use them to her advantage. I love that she's unabashedly bisexual and that those around her love and accept her as well with only a little biphobia seem from those around her. Representation matters after all. As with the other books in the series this is a solid mystery and it kept me turning the pages until I saw how it all ended. I was sad when this was over and hope that this isn't the last that we've seen of Roxane.

First book I've read in the series. This was an easy, fast paced and action packed read. I enjoyed this book. It had a lot of twists and turns.
I live pretty close to Detroit, so I liked that aspect also.
It's a good read and I could not figure out the ending before I got there.

This is the fourth book in the Roxane Weary series. While it wasn’t too difficult to jump into the series at this point I do think I’d have gotten more out of it and understood more about the main character if I had read the first three books.

PI Roxane Weary has been hired (by the dead woman’s daughter) to investigate some suspicious circumstances surrounding Rebecca Newsome’s death, after she fell while hiking. In Roxane’s eyes the woman’s husband should be a prime suspect, but he’s an ex-cop with connections. The more Roxane uncovers about the time leading up to Rebecca’s death, the more questions she has about what was really going on. Was her death really an accident or was it, in fact, a murder?!

I really enjoyed Roxane’s character, she’s nuanced and flawed and real. I look forward to getting to know her better by reading the first books in the series. She has some great dialogue too, which I’m always here for! I couldn’t stop ‘turning the pages’ (on my Kindle) as the mystery unfolded, there were so many layers. So if you’re in the mood for a well-written mystery I definitely recommend picking this one up!

Even though this was the fourth in the series I’m still very happy I read it. I enjoyed it greatly and look forward to checking out the others in this series.

I'm a sucker for a good murder mystery and this book did not disappoint. This was my first book both by this author and in this series. What I found is that you don't need to read these books in order. Even though I hadn't read the first 3 books in the series, I didn't miss out on anything. There was a name here or there that seemed to come from one of the previous books, but they were merely mentioned in this book which meant that you didn't miss any context when the names were mentioned. The plot is interesting, the character building is great and not boring, the plot itself makes sense, and the detective is a smart sleuth. I definitely see myself adding other books in the series to my TBR. Great book! Two thumbs up!

Mysteries have always intrigued me. I love theorizing about who the murderer is and waiting for the next plot twist. The Roxane Weary series by Kristen Lepionka not only has the intrigue of a mystery but includes a female bisexual protagonist, putting it at the top of my must read mysteries series.

The fourth book in the series, Once You Go This Far, released on July 7 and continues Roxane Weary’s journey of not only solving crimes but figuring out how to be her best self. Roxane has problems just like anyone: she drinks too much, has a complicated relationship with her family, and does not know how to fully commit to her boyfriend. She buries all of her problems underneath cases she must solve as she is also a private investigator. This book starts out with Roxane meeting her brother Andrew for a hike. When her brother is late, she decides to start the hike on her own and comes across the body of a woman who apparently had only minutes before falling and died. Her and the woman’s daughter, however, do not believe it was an accident which leads to the main investigation of the book.

One of the main focuses in this book is the sexist and controlling nature of men in organized religion. Roxane has many such sexist encounters with the men in this story and each feels more and more relatable. I have had many such encounters myself growing up in a small religious town. This aspect of the book leads to more and more mysteries as you discover the true nature of the people in the town.

The mystery unfolds naturally and never feels rushed. The twists and turns never feel too over the top or jarring. Roxane grows a lot as a person in this book and so do the people around her. I’m always up for a story where a protagonist grows because of the strange people they meet along their journey. While the mystery of this fourth installment in the series is not as exciting as some of the previous books, I still very much enjoyed the ride.

Once You Go This Far is yet another excellent addition to the Roxane Weary series from Kristen Lepionka. This is the fourth addition to the series, which is more than worth the read from the start to get all the nuance, drama, and relationship details which aren't important to this particular mystery. You'll enjoy the characters though and understand them better by starting from the beginning. Roxane stumbles into a case this time when waiting for her brother on a hike, she hears a woman fall and rushes to help. She meets the woman's daughter when handing off her dog and thinks nothing of it when a few days later, she gets a call that the woman who fell died and the daughter is suspicious that it was actually a murder and not an innocent fall. Of course Roxane agrees to investigate and thus our story begins! Filled with plenty of atmosphere and a twisty plot, readers of mysteries will love to get their hands on this. Be sure to check out Once You Go This Far today!

I love this series and spending time with Roxane Weary. While you could jump in and start with this book - I think it’s really worth reading the series in order. While the case in each individual book is interesting - the true magic in this series comes from the characters and their relationships with each other.

Roxane is a PI and in the course of her job is often in intense situations - but always comes at it with her sense of humor that can catch me off guard. I love being surprised into laughter in the middle of an intense scene.

And the relationships in this series are handled so well - whether it’s romantic relationships or family relationships. Roxane is flawed - but we can see her changing and growing and making efforts to do better. And I love that so much - the end of this book has my heart. I hope there are 100 more books in this series because I am not ready to let go of Roxane Weary.

This is the third in a series but my first adventure with investigator Roxanne Weary and I thoroughly enjoyed the outing. A character driven story builds as we investigate a possible accident/murder of a woman Roxanne meets in the parking lot in the first few pages. The small story builds to a dramatic climax as we see a major conspiracy on the horizon. A down to earth feminist Roxanne finds herself in the world of fundamental Christianity and anti choice bigotry and misogyny which forms a major theme in the story. Loved her, loved her politics and can’t wait to catch up on previous investigations.

Another fine addition to the Roxane Weary series!

I don't know how Lepionka does it, but she writes characters I'm still thinking about after finishing each book - not only Roxane and her friends/family; I'm still thinking about the villain in this one. I'd label this series meaty mysteries; each book gives you something to sink your teeth into.

In Once You Go This Far, Roxane is out for a hike when a woman dies on the trail. Of course, when Roxane starts looking into the woman's death, there are all sorts of things that just don't seem quite right... but she's not sure why.

Really enjoyed, and as always, looking forward to the next in the series.

Wow, Once You Go This Far has layers and layers of plot. The blurb above is just the main story. There is much more involved than just a disgrunted ex in Rebecca’s death.

Concurrently, Roxane, her mother, and two brothers are still adjusting to her father’s death and how it impacts their relationships with each other. Roxane is also dealing with pushing away her boyfriend Tom to avoid getting hurt even while he wants to become closer. There are also temptations from previous relationships thrown in her path.

If you are in the mood for a noirish but also feminist PI book, you can’t go wrong reading Once You Go This Far. I loved it! 5 stars!

I love mysteries with flawed protagonists. Roxane Weary, in her fourth book in the series, is a good one. She’s tough and she knows how to solve crimes. When asked by a woman’s daughter to investigate the death of her mother because police see it as an accident, Roxanne follows a train from Toledo to Detroit to Windsor, Canada. The case though, is much easier to solve than her own personal problems. If you like Sara Paretsky, you’ll like this book.
