This is a good mystery, a series I have not read, but was thouraghly entertained. I liked the characters, except for Chad, Katie's boyfriend. She is a former Army war hero, well, her beautiful German Shepherd Cisco is! I don't understand why Katie never tells her boyfriend, whom she professes to love, where she is going, nor ask for his help? This is a turnoff for me, he doesn't have a big role in her life, nor does she trust him with life and death issues; I prefer Alpha Males, and he certainly is not one! The murder is shocking, it was too easy for me to figure out who did it, yet, it was suspenseful when Katie sets her trap for the murderer. This needs more finesse, but it is certainly worth reading, it is a cross between a Cozy Mystery, and a Mystery Murder. I am looking forward to the next book!
I highly recommend! Thank you!

This is the first book that I have read in a long time that had me on the edge of my seat. It was filled with mystery and unsuspecting surprises. I really enjoyed the main character and how dedicated she was to truth.

Detective Katie Scott is fighting to save her Cold Case Unit as well as the most important person in her life in Flowers on Her Grave.

Book #3 of the Katie Scott series is another great read from Jennifer Chase. And although it's book 3 it can definitely stand alone for someone who hasn't read the first 2 books of the series. It's easy to slide into the story and the other novels really just provide a back story. Katie is a great character, a strong female lead, and one of my current characters to pull for.

She is more determined than ever to solve the case she's working, and at the same time as solving the case that she is not supposed to be working on. She's feeling pressure from the Under Sheriff to justify her job just as her family life takes a huge hit. She's made it through tough times in the past but this time things look like might not work out in her favor.

A good read.
Katie Scott has never seen two people more in love than her aunt and uncle as they danced together on the night of their wedding anniversary party. But the next morning, when Katie finds her aunt’s body sprawled across the floor, that perfect image is shattered forever. All fingers point to Katie’s uncle, Pine Valley’s beloved sheriff and protector – after all, his prints are all over the antique knife found at the scene. Grieving, but certain of her uncle’s innocence, Katie is consigned to the cold case division after she’s discovered searching the house for clues. Does someone want to keep her as far away from this investigation as possible?
Characters were charming. Narration of the story is simple and engaging.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me an advance copy.

When her aunt is brutally murdered and her uncle the sheriff is arrested for her murder. Katie will stop at nothing to clear her uncle's name and find the killer. With the help of her colleagues and her four legged partner Cisco a German shepherd dog who is also a war veteran. I love this series and can't wait to read more in this another gripping and addictive series.

I've read all 3 of the series in last 2 weeks. I enjoyed them a lot. It's refreshing having a female veteran with ptsd. Most books generally portray men with it.
This book is my favourite so far. Each 'cold' case is interesting and i didn't see the killer coming in this one!! I like the secondary characters that she deals with in the books. However im not entirely convinced by her love interest in the books, something doesn't gel/convince me with them. I am eagerly awaiting book 4!

Flowers on Her Grave is the third book in the Dt. Katie Scott series and a super addition to the brilliant series. The book starts with a chilling prologue that hooks you right in. I like this series so much that I went in, without reading the description. That decision probably saved me some much-needed suspense about what & who this case involves. This book is a part of a solid police procedural series that is simply too good!

Katie's Uncle and Aunt just celebrated a milestone wedding anniversary! She couldn't know anyone more in love with each other, so when Katie goes to their house the morning after their anniversary party, the scene that greets her shocks her to the core. Losing a close family member is have a serious emotional setback. Heartbroken Katie realizes she now has only her Uncle to call for family and must do everything in her power to set the record straight and clear his name that is being tarnished - seemingly on purpose. Did someone target the Scotts to hurt the Sherriff? Katie must find the ruthless murderer and bring her family justice, even if it's her own life at stake!

Detective Katie Scott with Cisco makes for an unbeatable and unshakable team. I've been a fan of this series ever since the first book, Little Girls Sleeping. Katie with her history already makes for interesting reading, throws in some cold cases and chilling murder scenes, you get this book! I really like the way Katie and McGaven go through the motions of a cold case. It's interesting to see how her logic takes her to places from certain dead ends and ultimately to solve the uncertainty. I like the other characters in this series. This book essentially had Katie solve two cold cases. I am holding back on one star because I still have questions about one of the cases. It was not clear why the first case's second person was murdered so late. I would have also liked to have seen Katie see the first case closed to her satisfaction (despite it being taken from her), notified the mother, etc. I am still a fan of this budding series and am looking forward to the next explosive read!

Thank You NetGalley, Bookouture & Jennifer Chase for an arc!

Flowers on Her Grave is my first book by this author. While being the third in the series, the book is easy to keep up with a Detective Katie Scott quickly captures the reader's attention. A former military k-9 trainer, Katie is now the main detective in her uncle, the sheriff's cold case division with a knack for solving cases. After her aunt is murdered and her uncle framed for the murder, Katie does a deep dive into her uncle's old cases to find the most likely candidates for the setup. An old cold case turns up eerie similarities to her aunt's murder but the suspects list just keeps growing as Katie runs into danger to solve the murders. With characters that fuel the imagination and a mystery that keeps you guessing, the pages flew by for a suspenseful, fast paced mystery that you do not want to put down. The only thing keeping this from a five star read for me is that the story reached the climax so abruptly (like a page or two) after building for so long I felt a little unsatisfied. The ending works towards a happier Katie and leaves me wanting to come back for more. My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.

Never have a been so emotionally invested in a book, than I have been in this one. Detective Katie Scott stumbles across a case involving her beloved Uncle and Aunt. Driven to find truth and justice, she is relentless in her pursuit of answers. I have to put the book down a couple of times because of all the different emotions it drawled out of me.
I was hooked from page one, and finished reading the book in one day.
Jennifer Chase is an outstanding author and can she write a book.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy of the book.

This is a great follow up to the first two books in the series. It can read as a standalone but I recommend reading the others to put some perspective on the characters. There are a lot of twists and turns in this and it's very well plotted in a way that keeps you guessing until the end. It was hard to put down! Thank you NetGalley for the advanced readers copy for review.

This is actually the first book I read in this series, and I'm not sure if I should have read the previous books to connect with the characters as I don't feel I connected to them well. The story started out really strong, but then I just felt lost and frustrated as things were happening- and a lot was happening at one time. I had a difficult grasping who was who in the book and how they all related to each other in the book. Katie Scott is an amazing woman who went through a lot, and being the niece of the current Sheriff who was being charged of murdering his wife after their 10 year anniversary was a great plot twist. I can understand how she had to continue doing her current job at the same time feeling the need to help ( bec she knows the detectives may forget to look into something). During the entire investigation, she was able to close 2 cold cases- how realistic is that? And how can the last cold cast of Cynthia Andrews tie into the death of her aunt? I guess I can understand why he would kill, being a serial psychopath, but the way it ended I felt like something was hanging or missing. Of the suspicions I had, I kind of knew who the potential killer was. With all the clues she had found, I felt like a lot of the events were unfinished. Also, I don't get how the title correlates to the entire story. I don't feel like that is the best fit for the story.

Overall, I think I'll go back and read the 2 books prior to this, maybe my view will change.

The morning after her aunt and uncle's 10th wedding anniversary party - a huge soiree - Detective Katie Scott arrives at their home for a planned meet-up.Her uncle is a bloody mess and her aunt is dead. Her uncle is the prime suspect and recused of his duties as Sheriff. Katie is warned, of course, to stay away from the case but she can't leave this wholly to another detective. Katie continues her work in the cold case unit, while quietly following the investigation of her Aunt Claire's murder and sleuthing herself. Digging into her uncle's cold case files she finds a case where the victim suffered injuries consistent with Claire's. Following this trail may exonerate her uncle, if she can find the killer before the killer finds her.

I liked Katie, an army veteran dealing with PTSD, and her dog Cisco, who was her K9 partner in the service. She's smart, persistent, strong, and cares deeply for her friends and family, including friends from the army and current co-workers. The plot is interesting and complex. In addition to the plot regarding Claire's death and the possible related cold case, Katie and her partner investigate an unrelated missing persons case, which is also interesting and well-paced. Although this is the third book in the series, I had no trouble beginning with this novel.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC. The opinions in this review are honest and my own. #policeprocedural

What's not to love about this series?

The author has created a third amazing story in a row. Her characters are wonderful too.

There is Katie who is great in solving cases, assisted by her faithful dog Cisko. She is determined, stubborn and does not like to ask for help. She rather faces the music alone and protect her loved ones then accepting their help, but you can't do everything on your own. Cisko maybe had a smaller role this time, but he remains irreplaceable.

She works closely with John, the forensic specialist and deputy McGaven. McGaven tries to keep her in line sometimes, but she does not really listen and John is John. I don't know what his story is, but he sometimes gives me the creeps.

Katie, who normally takes care of cold cases, finds herself in the middle of a very hot one this time that hits very close to home.

The chapters are short and when the pace picks up, the author adds to it by writing even shorter ones. It feels like being caught in a whirlwind. Love it!

Totally, utterly amazingly good book. 5 stars

Thank you, Jennifer Chase and Bookouture

I really enjoyed this book. It was a fast paced thriller that kept me guessing until the very end. The characters were interesting, and the plot didn't overly depend on the other two books in the series. There enough mentioned about the previous stories that you knew what happened but the author didn't dwell on it. I think I'm going to get the first two books and read them now.

All it takes is for me to see there’s a police procedural with a dog in it, and I’m all over it. But maybe because I committed the cardinal sin of starting a series with the latest, rather than the first book, I didn’t totally connect with this book. I didn’t get a real feel for the characters. Or maybe the book suffered in comparison to another police procedural I just finished. I’m not saying it’s bad, just that it didn't come across as anything special. In fact, the comparison made me realize what a talent it is to actually create a whole group of characters that feel real.

Detective Katie Scott handles cold case investigations for Pine Valley. She’s an army vet, suffering from PTSD and has her army dog, Cisco. Her uncle is the sheriff. But the morning after her aunt and uncle’s 10th anniversary party, she arrives at their house to find her uncle covered in blood and her aunt dead.

This is a straightforward police procedural with the obligatory new boss who has it in for Katie, looking to abolish her department and send her back to patrol. Flip side, she is often seen flouting the department rules to the consternation of her partner. She’s also one of those MCs that takes stupid risks.

The story flows quickly with lots of moving parts. Katie starts to investigate a twelve year old cold case that her uncle initially investigated with a similar MO to her aunt’s murder. The author does rely on some heavy coincidences to keep the story moving. There are quite a few suspects to choose from.

If you choose this because of the dog aspect, be aware that Cisco plays a very small role.

My thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of this book.

Detective Katie Scott know about death, from various viewpoints. As a patrol officer she saw it on the streets, as a K9 team leader in Afghanistan she saw it in its full wartime horror and as a cold case investigator she sees its lasting effects when cases aren't solved and get filed away. None of this prepares her for the death of her aunt, nor the arrest of her uncle, the Sheriff of Pine Valley where she lives and serves. Not trusting anyone else to do as good a job clearing her uncle's name Katie uses her position to look at his unsolved cases hoping to find hidden clues while trying to hold together her life, career and working relationships.

This is the third book in the series and, unfortunately, for me it was the weakest. The premise sounded so good, but somehow it all fell a little flat. The original cold case which took centre stage for quite a while was suddenly over with, and the discovery of the main clue contrived and unrealistic. Katie's aunt's murder also started out really well but as the story reached its big reveal there was no discernable increase in tension and I was left feeling frustrated. I didn't guess the killer however which is the only reason I raised my rating from 2 stars to 3.

There were hints this could be the last in the series which would be a shame as it would go out with a whimper rather than shout so I hope there will be one more book at least to give Katie the send off she deserves as up until now she has been a good, strong character, but she definitelylost her way in this one becoming a lone wolf for almost no reason.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this thanks to NetGalley and the publishers in exchange for an unbiased review and would recommend it to anyone who has enjoyed this series so far with the proviso that it's not quite as good as the previous books.

I've read each book in the series and for the most part I enjoyed this one. I love the characters. Katie is complex. The mysteries are full of tension. While I like Katie and Chad's sweet romance, I'm leaning toward a pairing between Katie and John. There seems to be a potential for a much more intense and equal relationship there.
While I felt the cases were interesting, I felt the resolutions were lacking. The wrap up with the missing person case is rushed and not explained well after the investment put into it. As for Claire's case, it didn't make a lot of sense and could have used more details in the who and why.
Regardless, this is still a really good read. The characters draw you in. I wondered at the end if this will be the last book. I truly hope not. I love this series and definitely want more!

This is the third book in the series, but the first book I've read. The main characters are likeable and the story has plenty of suspense, twist and turns. I will definitely read the first two books and future books by Jennifer Chase. It is always exciting to add new authors to my list of favorites.
