Thank you @netgally and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book!
Three Perfect Liars is about 3 women leading 3 very different lives and based on the choices they've made. They become a part of each other's lives, and not in the way that traditional friendships are made.
Laura, returned from maternity leave, only to find out the temp she hired was still working at company and has taken over HER biggest client.
Mia, the TEMP, covering the mat leave accepts a full time position. Mia also has a secret that she's hiding from everyone, her reason for reason for staying at the company.
Janie was a successful lawyer but once she had children and moved to the subarbs, she stayed home to raise her girls. She is wife to Harry, the owner and CEO of Morris and Wood, where Mia and Laura work.
Through this twisted tale of suspense, revenge, deception we slowly uncover how the 3 women are tied together and why the Morris and Wood building is burned to the ground.
I enjoyed discovering the slow reveal of what makes each of the women do what they do. I could relate to all them and understand why they did the things they did. From wanting a career, to staying raising children, to protecting and providing for your family.
How far would you be willing to go to protect the ones you love?
Three Perfect Liars examines the characters and events surrounding a fire that consumes a successful advertising firm. It is evident from the very beginning that one of the women narrating the story started the fire, but the novel unravels the mystery surrounding why, and who. As it turns out, several people had motive. This is revealed through police interviews, and chapters starting 8 weeks before the fire.
.
I found the lack of description in this novel a little disappointing. It felt very plot-based, with a lot of dialogue. There was a lot of drama between the women in the workplace, and their boss, Harry Wood, seems to only make things worse. I found the demeaning comments and statements made about women to be frustrating, although I can see why it was written in this way.
.
This is definitely a good mystery, and despite the changes in narration, it is clear to follow from one character to the next. The female characters are well crafted, and I enjoyed getting to know more about each one. Their back stories certainly add great depth.

This is a new domestic thriller by Perks, who is from England. Her previous books include 'Come Back For Me' and 'Her One Mistake'. In this one a fire has gutted an advertising business and someone has died. In alternating chapters we read the transcripts of the police interviews after the fire and follow along in the lives of three women in the weeks before the fire. The three women are Laura who is returning to her job after 6 months of maternity leave, Mia who is Laura's replacement and has been kept on and Janie who is the wife of Laura and Mia's boss. This is a good suggestion for fans of the genre. My only complaint is I was a little disappointed in the ending - not in the result, but rather the presentation - it felt a little rushed. Having said that, it was still a fun read.
Thank you NetGalley and Simon and Schuster Canada for allowing me to read the ARC of this marvellous book. The three female main characters are very different from each other which helps make them each likeable in their own way. The author did a wonderful job of building these characters with each chapter. I like how each was strong and independent yet had a side that was barely holding it together. The were more realistic like this and to me that’s what makes a book interesting.
I loved how the author had the timeline jump back and forth with each chapter as it helped not only keep me interested but built the characters and their stories in an exciting way. It helps build suspense and leaves you wanting to read just one more chapter. It has a great plot and the individual stories intertwined to build up to a fabulous ending. The questioning by the police was a fun way to keep the story moving and to give me more clues in a unique way.
I really enjoyed the entire book and I could picture each home and the quay like a movie in my head. I would love to read more books by this author. Well done.
3.5/ 5 stars
Three Perfect Liars is a suspense/thriller set in the UK.
The book has 3 female narrators: Laura, Mia and Janie (all 3rd person POVs).
Laura is a new mom returning to an advertising company after her maternity leave. Mia is the woman who was supposed to be replacing her temporarily. And Janie is their boss Harry's wife.
All of the women are keeping secrets. And all of them are liars.
The story is set around a fire. So we start out with the fire. Then the story goes back 8 weeks before the fire. And it gradually moves forward till we reach the fire again. There are also police interviews with the women and various employees of the building that was on fire.
The beginning did not really excite me. Usually I can tell if I am going to like a book right from the start. But in the case of this book I didn't love the beginning. But it got better for me.
It was interesting to try to figure out who might have set the fire. And also to figure out who might be a victim.
It was also quite intriguing to see how each woman came across in the chapters that they were narrating vs the other chapters.
Mia specifically had a lot of secrets. I was very curious to see what had happened to her in the past. And I was very interested to see how the book would end.
There was a party towards the end of the book that I found very fascinating. So I was glad that the author decided to show us this part of the story firsthand.
The end was somewhat satisfying. And overall it was an enjoyable mystery.
This was such a fun read!
We're introduced to the mystery immediately--who's burned down the building of the successful advertising agency?--and the story flips between the main perspectives of Laura, Mia, and Jane weeks before the fire happens. To drive the mystery forward, we get snippets of dialogue between chapters, set after the fire as the investigation unfolds and characters are interviewed on alibis and what they witnessed.
I will say this story is less mystery-driven than some thrillers and not as high stakes. A lot of it is relationship-driven, as we see the three women in particular fight and suspect each other of various things. I really liked how Laura, Mia, and Jane all had complicated relationships with each other and their own secrets, which all play a part in the mystery of the fire. I think each of the women's characterization was realistic and complete, particularly Laura's. There's also some great discussion about misogyny and how male-female dynamics play out in professional workplaces.
I flew through this, wanting to learn more--about the fire, about the characters--and really enjoyed the messy relationships and secrets.
A special thank you to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster Canada for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
When an office fire ends in murder, Laura, Mia, and Janie are first in line for questioning. Meet our Three Perfect Liars.
When Laura returns to work at Morris and Wood after her maternity leave, she learns that the woman she hired to replace her isn't going anywhere. Not only is Laura feeling outsmarted, but she is also struggling with being a working mother.
Mia was only supposed to be temporary but has managed to make herself indispensable to everyone, including the agency's CEO, Harry Wood. Even though Laura has always had a close relationship with Harry, she can't help but feel snubbed.
Janie, Harry's wife, gave up everything to support her husband and his business. But she has a secret to protect and will do anything to keep it hidden.
Perks latest work is a psychological thriller that contains its fair share of shocking twists and turns. She masterfully tells the story using multiple points of view, the police interviews conducted by DC Emily Marlow, and alternating timelines. This was an effective way to tell the story; there was an edge of intensity created as well shocking revelations that were a result of the police interviews.
Laura, Mia, and Janie all had distinct voices and personalities. They were fully developed characters with fleshed out backstories that provided context for their motives. These are clever women, each with their own brand of deception.
Three Perfect Liars is a riveting thriller about revenge and the complexities of secrets and lies.
Thank you NetGalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for the opportunity to read Three Perfect Liars also a big thanks to Heidi Perks
What a great book!
The story is about a woman named Laura who is married to Nate and has a six-month-old son Bobby, she returns to work just as her son turns 6 months old, her husband stays home with Bobby. Mia is the woman that Laura hired to cover for her while she was on maternity leave. Laura expects that Mia will be gone when she returns to work, but she is not. The story is written from many characters perspectives and narratives, and also based on interviews conducted by the police during the investigation and questioning of each character in the attempt to find out who the culprit was.
It didn't take me long to get hooked on this novel, it's a first that I read from this author. And I will definitely read more. I was hooked on page one, wanting to find out who had done it and by the middle of the book I couldn't put it down. Very well written characters are well described and introduced.
I very much enjoyed this book, it kept me intrigued. It was a good read. the author knows how to create suspense and drama and kept me guessing on who done it and how the story was going to unfold Well done
I found this to be a great story. 3 women on a mission to protect themselves and all 3 with the potential to have motive causing a fire leading to a company's & someone's demise. The plot thickens as we read along to figure out "WHODUNIT?"
Great perspectives and a bit wordy at times. In saying that, I found that it dragged a bit and could've been more direct in the storytelling to keep me interested and perhaps on the edge of my seat more. I loved the premise but not how long the story wove its tangled web to get to the finish.
Thank you NetGalley for my eARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.
This book was about three professional women, who are all lying about something, and the mystery of who started a fire that burned down the office building. The book had a lot of women's rights issues which was a nice tie-in. Around the 52% mark I considered abandoning the book, just because I was tired of hearing about Laura's constant paranoia and whining about her job, but I pushed through and finished the book. It wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be, but not a bad read.
*Thank you Netgalley and Simon Schuster Canada**
I had a lot of fun reading this. I read it in one sitting and got taken on the ride. I don't usually find myself doing this, it's been awhile since I've just been able to sit and enjoy the ride.
Laura, Mia and Jamie are 3 woman that are bound together. They just don't know it yet. I liked the narrative structure of it alternating between the 3 leading up to the fire and the police interviews after. It made for an interesting story.
I thought it was a good slow-moving tale, that was very engaging.
4/5 stars.
The best thriller published in 2020 that I've read so far. If you like thrillers, pick this one up. It gave me Big Little Liars vibes, since it was about 3 woman and the police tapes.
This was a gripping, well-written story focusing on three women with secrets, insecurities, and hostilities. The story of psychological suspense centred on three professional troubled women. I thought the characters were well developed and believable, but they were not particularly likable. Their home lives were unstable. As the story progressed, and you came to understand them better through their relationships with their families, their secrets, and their motivations. The tension was palpable throughout this compulsive novel. The plot moved at a slow pace.
There has been a devastating fire at an advertising agency run by CEO Harry Wood. Was the fire set by someone wanting vengeance. What was their motive?
The chapters alternate between the days leading up to and following the fire which destroyed the workplace, and police interviews of people who worked for the agency. The police mainly suspect that one of three women connected with the business may have committed arson. For most of the story, there is a simmering tension amongst these women.
Laura has just returned from maternity leave. She held a prestigious directorship within the firm. She is portrayed as a driven, hard worker, all- business with the staff. They regard her as highly competent, but distant and unfriendly. Mia was hired as a temporary replacement for the six months Laura was on leave. Now she finds Mia has taken over Laura's role working with an important client and has no intention of leaving. Mia has developed friends within the office and is popular with all. Janie, Harry’s wife, worked as a successful defence attorney, but is now an unhappy wife and stay- at- home mother.
When Laura confronts her boss, Harry, demanding that her work be returned to her, he refuses. It seems Mia has become indispensable. This is particularly disturbing to Laura, as she thought of Harry as a friend. She is suspicious that Mia has a hidden agenda and has secrets that she intends to expose. Harry tells Laura that he needs her for an upcoming project but she wants to resume the work she was doing before she went on leave, is angry and wants Mia gone.
Janie has reason to be unhappy with Harry and has her own reasons for watching the trouble and strife developing in the workplace. Can these women ever reconcile their differences? Who is finally charged with the crime? I was entertained by this compelling story and was surprised by the unexpected twists revealing secret motives and hidden agendas.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for this ARC in return for an honest review.
Ominous, slow-burning, and secretive!
Three Perfect Liars is a compelling, malicious, character-driven thriller that takes you into the lives of three main characters. Janie, a big-city defence attorney, turned stay-at-home mom; Mia, a temporary employee with a hidden agenda; and Laura, a new mom returning to work where her replacement seems to be bound and determined to steal her job.
The writing is tight and tense. The characters are consumed, secretive, and troubled. And the plot told using a mixture of narrative, police interviews, and alternating timelines, before-and-after the fire is a suspenseful tale full of well-timed twists, unforeseen surprises, deception, insecurities, lies, obsession, manipulation, violence, arson, and murder.
Overall, Three Perfect Liars is an addictive, clever, tortuous tale by Perks that highlights the complex relationships that exist within a company and reminds us that revenge often has no limits.
Three Perfect Liars by @heidiperks
Review: 🌟🌟🌟
The storyline of this book had a lot of potential, but it dragged on.
It is woven from three perspectives: Laura, Mia and Janie. Laura has just returned from maternity leave to find her mat cover, Mia, has become a permanent fixture and it feels like she is out for Laura’s job. Mia has fit in seamlessly at the company and is desperate to keep her job. And Janie, the wife of the CEO, who had a high-powered job of her own and gave it up to support her husband and his company. There is more to all of them than what appears at first glance. It is clear that they all hold a grudge. So when the company building goes up in flames and there is a body retrieved... each one of them appear to have a motive 🔥.
So real talk... 75% or more of the book was setting the stage without anything really happening. Context is important, but I was so bored by the time the engine revved that it was too late for me.
I notoriously burn the midnight oil to read one more chapter or to finish a book. Nope, not this time. I tucked myself in and prioritized my beauty sleep.
This book is set to be published on Dec 20, 2020, but I wouldn’t be setting any alarms.

Three Little Liars by Heidi Perks (coming out on June 9th)

Laura has come back to her high powered job after maternity leave, only to find out the woman hired as her temporary replacement has no intentions of leaving. Now Laura is struggling to reclaim her position at work & be a working mother. Mia was only supposed to be at Morris & Wood for six months but she’s managed to make herself indispensable. If everyone knew why she was really there they wouldn’t want her to stay so bad. Janie Wood, wife of the boss, gave up her career to support her husband & his company. But she has a secret too, one she’ll go to great lengths to keep hidden.

This was such a good book! I had previously read the authors last book Her One Mistake & I enjoyed it so much I added Perks to my “authors to look for” list. Three Perfect Liars is an even better book. All three lead female characters are compelling & I found my alliances shifting as the chapters went on & the stories were further revealed. I think a lot of women will see themselves in one or more of the characters & it raised a lot of “what would I think/do” in certain situations. There’s secrets galore & lots of reveals that had me tearing through the pages to know the truth. I highly recommend this book, it’s definitely one of the best ones I’ve read this year so far.

Told flipping back and forth from present time and the past, a story unfolds where everyone seems to be hiding something. Laura returns to work at Morris and Wood after her maternity leave fighting for her job back from her temporary replacement, Mia. As time unfolds it seems that Mia has a hidden agenda. Between Laura, her bosses wife, Janine, and Mia, someone holds the key to unlocking the secrets behind the fire that comp,Evelyn whipped out Morris and Wood.
Good read.
*I received an advanced reader’s copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review
This book was highly rated and recommended. I didn't think it was very captivating. I feel like it took forever to finish. Its a case of Who done it. The story is told backwards with police interviews. You kinda saw it coming. Three different women and their point of view.
it was alright..
Thanks NetGalley and Simon & Schuster Canada.
Three Perfect Liars by Heidi Perks is a taut psychological thriller and from the very outset the tension is palpable. The action here is not overt, but rather a latent hostility that quietly simmers, while the reader struggles to ascertain what could possibly be afoot. We know only that a steaming pot left unchecked will eventually boil over.
Told from the alternating perspectives of Laura, Mia, and Janie, and interspersed with the transcripts of formal questioning as it is carried out by police, we join the narrative knowing that a fire has ravaged the offices of an advertising company. Laura has just returned to the company following a maternity leave, only to find that Mia, the woman who was standing in as her temporary coverage, is refusing to leave. CEO Harry seems to be in full agreement to this, for whatever reason, and his wife Janie is clearly harbouring some very dark secrets of her own. Three women, three very different agendas, and a fire at the office of the very company that ties them all together.
This is a novel that had me tied up in knots, and desperate to reach a conclusion that, however it played out, would have left me gobsmacked.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for this ARC.
