This is a love story, one experienced by so many where love at a young age is left behind and we progress with life until an encounter beings all those warm feelings rushing back so that those involved question whether it really was the real thing, and whether it's worth while picking up where they left off. This tale was told form many perspectives which was an interesting and effective angle to take, and I did champion their love, hopping that they would succeed for I felt it was meant to be. This was an enjoyable read and I look forward to reading more from this writing partnership.
Thanks to #Netgalley for all of the #arcs and helping this momma keep #sane during the #covid_19 #quarantine this quirky romance was mixed with emails and text messages. Between those you would get glimpses in each of the characters"heads". While the love story of Lily and Aidan is definitely cute and needed during this time I found myself quite often saying c'mon. Get on with it 😂 #romance #chicklit #booksofinstagram #bookstagram #usinpieces #christophergreen #tashacotter #shadelandhousemodernpress if you need to get out of your head and in to someone else then this book is definitely one you must get ❤️ it'll give you a much needed break from the real world
I am so torn on my review of this novel because I hate being negative. On one hand, I enjoyed the format that blended face to face dialogue, texts, and e-mails. It seems relevant for our time and realistic. Also, I found myself rooting for Adin and Lilly a good deal of the time, although at times I truly didn't care one way or the other. And of course, I loved the romantic notion of the novel!
My problems with this book, however, surround the main characters themselves. I don't remember the last time I read about such immature people. Adin was about as whiny and pathetic as could be and actually found himself surprised when he was able to do something alone and be happy. And Lilly seemed more in love with the idea of him wanting her, rather than in love with Adin himself. She is hands-down the most self-centered character I have encountered, and I truly wanted him to tell her to go to hell and then get on with his love.
Nevertheless, I always love writer collaborations and appreciate how a female and male writer worked together to make these so seamless. I found myself bored to tears at times, but for some reason, I had to stick with it to see how it ended. Definitely not my favorite read lately, but I give it 3 stars because of the flawless co-writing.
*Thanks to NetGalley for providing a review copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
I loved this book so, so much. It was an emotional roller coaster, but in the best way possible! This story was ten years in the making. I love how it's a quirky second chance romance. I love Lilly and Adin. Man, were they stubborn at times, but they eventually found their way back to each other - over and over until it stuck. Perfect summer beach read!
I tried but I could not finish this book as I was constantly frustrated with the main characters, Adin and Lily, trying to decide if they loved each other. I found the literary technique, if one can call it that, of telling the story in substantial part by emails and text messages grueling and repetitive. These two people are adults who are so indecisive I could not figure out if they were truly meant for each other or just engaging in mutual fantasy, and I didn’t care enough about them to find out.
I received this book as an ARC from the publisher and NetGalley.
The characters were beyond toxic and I couldn’t handle to misogynistic jabs here and there.
Whilst the novel had its moments where it was good, and I liked the back and forth of past to present to get the whole picture of their history together. I just couldn’t enjoy it
I found the characters, both Lily and Adin frustrating beyond words. I spent most of the book wanting to slap them both. That said, I found I couldn't put the book down. I needed to know how things would end between them. If was addictive to see which of the two would mess up the relationship next. I read the book in one day. I liked the idea of the story being told in emails, texts, etc...
I received a copy of this book from net galley in exchange for my honest opinion. This was the first time I read a story that was comprised of emails flashbacks text messages and different point of views. At some point I felt the book was a little slow but I finished it and was so glad I did as I was pleasantly surprised at how much I actually enjoyed it.If you were looking for a book that’s a little different to read than the average paragraph format I highly recommend.
This was a very sweet love story, and I enjoyed the fun way it was told (through texts and emails etc). My only small niggle would be that there was an awful lot of will they/won't they - but I suppose that is what makes books like this work! Still a very enjoyable read and, I felt, well observed.
I loved Adin and Lily! This book had me wanting more from the very beginning. It was such an easy book to follow thanks to the fun way it was written. Second chance romances are one of my favorite tropes and seeing Adin and Lily navigate their relationship ten years later was lovely. Thanks for writing!
College friends who never have their timing right. Then finally do, but then don’t. Then can’t get out of their own way, but then do. I enjoyed how this novel was written, including the emails and texts. Some people in their reviews said it made it difficult to follow , but I did not find it to be. It was nice to read something done in a different format. The characters did annoy me slightly in the first half of the book It almost felt like Lilly had more chemistry wit her ex husband than Adin. But once I really had a grasp of the characters I found them interesting and deep. Typical of anyone at there age - best described by Adin’s dad , wanting their own life when they should be sharing it.
I really wanted to like this book, but it just did not work for me. I had no issues with the format - I liked the mixture of first-person narrative, alternating points of view, the inclusion of e-mails/texts, and the parallel timelines. I just didn't like the characters enough to care about them. It felt like they never matured/grew over the course of the book - they started out insecure and selfish and kind of ended that way. Maybe if more space would have been devoted to the time period between the last two chapters it would have been better. The book was really long to not have much character development. I felt like I was forcing myself to finish it.
This was the story of Adin and Lilly, told over years of time, mostly through email or text conversations.. I LOVED the character of Adin - he was developed quite nicely throughout the book. At first I felt he was a bit passive, but I came to love him.
This was super sweet and sexy but not erotic. I loved that the jump between past and present was clearly identified.
I have never read a book like this in text messages, emails etc. I have to say I really enjoyed reading this style.
I fell in love with the characters and how there relationship grew over time and not just sudden attraction. These kinds of books where you get to know the why behind the attraction are the books that I like to read.
I was given this book as an ARC for my own opinion.
I picked this book out for Valentine's day because i didn't want to feel like a romance scrooge. This is a really good book. It talks about first love in the young adult ages. . It's full of hope and romance. I never really had a first love but this book makes me feel like I did. i give it 5 stars and I am grateful that netgalley and the publishes let me review this book in exchange for an honest review.
Aiden and Lily are old college friends that reconnect at a tractor pull. Through a series of emails, text messages, meetings and glimpses into their thoughts you watch them reconnect. Is it love? Superbly co-written and imaginative in the way it is put together.
Thank you NetGalley Tasha Cotter, Christopher Green, and Shadelandhouse Modern Press for this edition and hearing my honest review. Looking forward to reading more with you

I fell in love with this book because I love epistolary books. This book is complied in emails, text messages and more. It shows how two best friends fall in love over the years. This is great for many who love a romance with a slow burn. Instalove stories are okay but slow burns romances are my favorite. I want to see why the characters want to be together, and I want to see how they have grown over the years. This novel didn't disappoint. I'm only saddened that it ended. Thank you NetGalley you made my Valentine's day beautiful.
This book is one of the reasons I don't read Romance as much as I would like to. I mean, I have loads of favorite books under Romance but I don't always "choose" to read this genre. Does that make sense? No? Okay, let me just get to the book thought. .
My issue first.
Lily and Adin should have been together 10 years ago. But they both chose not to. They've been best friends since forever but all the flashbacks on their college days says otherwise. All the proof that they love each other is just there, out in the open but they didn't do anything about it. Given, maybe they're both afraid that the friendship will be lost if they didn't work out. BUT, (and this is just me), I believe that in "Love", you have to take a risk to know that answers to your "what ifs". You don't take a hundred of photos of someone and make it your Final Project, and just let her go after without even hinting you love her. I mean, that's just a waste of time. So many things would have gone better if they just would have had the courage to take that step.
I was so frustrated with both of the characters because of the back-and-forth, the push and pull of feelings and situations that might have end up better if Adin isn't such a wimp or if Lily didn't stupidly up and left. And I believe Adin has more potential that the author gave him for. I mean, all throughout the story, he’s this whiny guy who doesn’t know what to do or how to get what he wants. And Lily? I never understood how selfish she can be from the start until up to the point of keeping that thing secret. They’re so irritating most of the time. .
And now, let’s dig into what I liked about the book. I like the used of emails, like something of a love letter. Call me old school, but despite my lack of love life, I still believe in the old ways of professing your love to someone, I'm still into writing long love letters and "surprises, that's just how I am. Yes, I'm a hopeless romantic at times.
So yeah, I love the long emails sent between Lily and Adin, between Jane and Lily, Adin and Tristan, and even the ones sent to their parents.
I love how Adin's character matured over time (though rather slowly).
Also, I love the supporting cast around their story, how invested each and every one of them with Adin and Lily's story.
All in all, it was okay but I felt like the ending has been a long time coming.
Lilly and Adin met as freshman in college and they quickly became inseparable. The two would spend lazy afternoons sharing a set of headphones to listen to music, hang out for hours watching movies, take long naps and be a shoulder for the other to lean on at a moments notice. There was only one major problem...Adin was head over heels in love with Lilly who had friend-zoned Adin often coming to him when her long-term boyfriend upset her. Afraid to lose her completely Adin never opened up to Lilly about how much he cared for her. Completely out of the blue, Lilly doesn't return to school the following semester cutting off all contact with Adin and breaking his heart. Fast-forward ten years and Lilly is still the one Adin compares all women to. When his best friend Tristan lets it slip that Lilly is recently divorced, Adin decides to put it all on the line and picks up the phone. Could this possibly be his chance with Lilly he has always dreamed of? This creative co-written, dual-perspective story is told through emails, texts, letters and brief first-person narration. There are times you want to shake both of these characters and tell them to get it together but I think that's what makes them so relatable. Whether you've been friend-zoned or been the one talking your friend through confusing times there is at least one character in this book that everyone can relate to. This was such a cute love story, a perfect read right before Valentine's Day. Be sure to add this to your TBR list for a weekend binge read. Thank you to Netgalley & Shadelandhouse for a copy in exchange for an honest review.
I couldn't help but love Adin and Lily as they struggled to find success take their relationship from friendship to romance. Uniquely this story is shared through a series of emails, text, and small personal conversations. with such limited information I struggled to get into the story in the beginning. The characters were hard to get to know through such short texted and emails. There was very little back story offered on either character or in regards to the beginning stages of their friendship. Although it was a cute story I struggled with the lack of communication and clarity and was often left feeling frustrated on both ends of the relationship. I loved the idea of this book but feel it fell flat in the telling.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for and Advanced copy in return for an honest review.
