Wow! This was a great book. I didn't realize that it was the 3rd book in the series. I normally like reading series in order, however, I had no trouble understanding what was going on in this book.
This book captured my attention from the first few chapters and once I got into the story I couldn't stop reading. I loved how Karen intertwined Geena, Albert and Jane's stories in a way I definitely didn't expect.
I just reviewed Spring Girls by Karen Katchur. #SpringGirls #NetGalley
The writing is very good, the pace is OK, and the characters are generally excellent, but the plot is dependent on stupidity over time from otherwise not stupid characters.
I haven't read previous books and i didn't realize that it's a series.. but i love how easy I could read it without needing to read previous books. Absolutely amazing book, it grab me from the start.. good story, a lot of twists "charming" characters that you can follow easy and amazing ending.
Big thank you to NetGalley and the publisher.. and don't forget the author with amazing Idea of this book.
The Spring Girls unfolds exactly the way you want it to. A piece of information here, a hint there and they all find their way together at the heart pounding end. Janey starts off as a pretty unlikable character in many ways and finally reveals herself as the woman you actually want to root for. This book has many different story lines that (almost) all contribute to the flow of the story and make it a great read.
This is another wonderful book in the Northampton County series. This one we follow Geena, a detective who we met in the last book, and Janey a who may be one the killer's first victim- the one who got away. As with all the books in the series, the author has such a talent for including family dynamics in a realistic and compelling way. If you're a fan of mysteries, I suggest you pick up this one!
Spring Girls is the third book in the Northampton County Series, however, I wasn't aware of that before I read this novel. It did not set me back though, I was able to pretty much understand all the characters at play and it was a good thriller. I can't compare it to the other 2 books but I will definitely be reading them as well! I feel that fans of Karin Slaughter will enjoy this series!
Thank you to NetGalley Reads for allowing me an early digital download in return for my honest opinion and review!
Wow what a thriller indeed! This book was such an easy read it felt like the words were running through silk to get to my brain.
A fabulously interesting twist on the murder mystery/ thriller and a great original idea. I enjoyed the relationship between Geena and Parker very much and it is certainly a partnership I would want to read more of.
A five star read for sure.
I received a complimentary copy of Spring Girls from NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
Good book! Just when I thought the climax was winding down, the real action began! The detectives and survivor provided limited points-of-view, which allowed for me to be deceived. I wavered on the possibility that one of the narrators was unreliable, which only added to the intensity of this novel. I did not foresee the excitement that wrapped up the events. Great, unpredictable twists!
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!
It was OK, not my favorite. I LOVED the second book in the series and was excited to read this one, but it was so hard to get into. I grew up in Saylorsburg (very close to Bangor) and love reading books that take place in areas that I am so familiar with. The story moved so slow. I think it was more than halfway over when the killer was finally introduced to the reader. There really was no lead up about the identity of the strangler until he/she is arrested. It wasn't hard to guess who was also involved. I had a feeling from the very beginning of the book. Detective Parker Reed maybe some five words throughout the book (I'm exaggerating.) He really didn't add much. Why the secrecy about Becca? He refuses to speak about her. I hate to say this, but I feared for the bunny's life when Carlyn brought Christian the helpless little animal. Christian seemed like he was on his way to be a psychopath. He was so violent with his mom. Janey put a chair in front of his bedroom door at night so she could sleep. I just wasn't a fan of any of the characters. Janey followed whatever someone told her to do and her mom was so over the top. The book didn't seem like it was much of a mystery /thriller. There was no build up of who could it be. There wasn't a list of suspects to choose from. I wouldn't say there was many twists or turns.
My feelings about the book are definitely in the minority, so give it a try, especially if you read the previous books in the series. I do look forward to reading the next book in the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Thomas & Mercer through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Talk about a twisty-turn novel! Nothing is as it seems, and the reader is always left wondering if the characters are as they seem. Karen Katchur's novel, Spring Girls, revolves around the spring-time murders of girls. As the lead detectives, Geena and Parker are not only navigating their new partnership, but also trying to put into perspective her previous partner and the information he may or may not know. It's a very thoughtful, solid mystery.
Another mystery! I’ve been reading a lot of mysteries during this time of confinement. This was a suspenseful one, as they tried to find the killer before the killer came back for the girl who got away (and who was trying to just keep a low profile and live her life). I find that Thomas & Mercer publishes a lot of these fast thrillers that aren’t too gruesome or violent, so I often pick one of them to read. Thank you for my ARC!
A very good read, I didn’t realize that it was book 3 of series. But from the very first page I couldn’t put it down. The writer does an amazing job depicting the killer. It was very suspenseful. I couldn’t put the book down.
She’s the only one who survived…and the only one who can help find the killer.
This is the third novel in a series.
Another spring, another dead girl pulled from a lake in the Appalachian foothills: the latest victim in a series of murders with few leads. But Detective Geena Brassard and her partner, Parker Reed, finally land a break when they receive a tip about a previously unknown survivor of the so-called Spring Strangler.
The survivor’s reluctant to help with the case for reasons that aren’t all clear. Even so, Geena uncovers a connective thread between the victims, and recently discovered DNA brings her closer to the killer’s identity. But Geena knows the survivor has the most to offer the investigation—if also the most to lose.
Geena is torn between securing the surviving victim’s help and protecting her from further danger. One thing is certain: Geena and Parker must find answers before the killer claims another life—or returns to finish off the one who got away.
This is an excellent slow burn thriller. Characters are recurring from the first two novels, with a new case.
Spring Girls is the third suspense novel in the Northampton County series written by Karen Katchur in 2020. I previously read the first two books, excited to learn they took place in the area where I went to college, and when this one showed up on NetGalley, I immediately requested it. I read the book last weekend, and now it's time to share my thoughts with everyone. How about you? Have you read any of the books yet in this series?
The novel takes place in current times and revolves around a few different police detectives. Each book is connected through similar characters, but they are separate and distinct stories, so you can probably read them in any order... unless you have that control-freak mechanism like me and must read them in chronological order! In this book, Geena and Parker are the two focal points, and they're tracking the victims of a serial killer named The Strangler. The murderer attacks his female victims, strangles them, and then tosses them in various lakes and rivers in the local area.
The original detective whom Geena worked with has since retired. He reveals that there may have been an earlier victim that wasn't identified properly. When Geena tracks her down, everything changes... the biggest DNA clue possible lands at her feet, but now she has to figure out why her old partner kept it a secret and whether her new partner will trust her to figure it out. Between these plots are viewpoints from different characters, including supportive family, therapists, a child, and other cops. What we learn should be taken with a grain of salt, as someone is clearly creating machinations behind the scenes. But who?
This was a great story. It is complex but logical. I easily followed all the investigative angles, and it moves quickly. We're not bogged down with the personal lives of either main detective. Sometimes I like the side stories, sometimes I like the suspenseful action. In this case, I was fine not knowing much personal, though we do get a few interesting tidbits. The clues are there, but we have to figure them out. The ending is a shocker... I clearly knew one person was involved, but the killer comes out at 70%, and then it's learning the history of the reason for the killings, so it's a slightly different plot line. It worked really well.
I recommend this series, and this might be my favorite of the books. I'd give it 4.5 stars, and I really hope there are more. The author is talented, and it's a fine balance of writing, plot, character, and theme... nothing overshadows anything, and I hardly put it down except when I was too sleepy and didn't want to miss anything. Great job!
When I requested Spring Girls on NetGalley, I didn't know this was the third book of the Northampton County series. Normally I don't like it when I haven't read the rest of a series, but 50 pages in I was hooked!
Detective Geena Brassard and her partner Parker Reed are investigating the murder of a young woman. The woman's body was pulled from a lake in the Appalachian foothills and she is the third victim of the Spring Strangler. Geena and Parker seem to be on a dead end, until they find out about a forth victim. Only this victim survived.
The survivor, Janey, is reluctant to help with the investigation. Geena and Parker soon find out why she doesn't want to talk about what happened to her. When they uncover her secret, the investigation finally seems to lead somewhere.
This is a fast-paced thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. I did uncover who the murderer was, but that didn't keep me from being horrified and curious unil the last page. This is a must read for everyone who enjoyes a good mystery thriller.
An engaging thriller that starts with a bang and never lets up. Part of a series, this can be read as a standalone. Previous books focused on Parker. This one is more about Geena. I'm still not sure how I feel about her. She's a dedicated detective. There are a lot of aspects of her character that I didn't care for. It is interesting to see the partnership between the detectives evolving. By the end it felt a lot different than it started.
The mystery is full of twists that keep you flipping pages. I had it half figured out fairly early, but was surprised by the way the author tied everything together. It made for a compelling read. I'm looking forward to the next one.
Spring Girls by Karen Katchur A well constructed, fast moving plot with intriguing and realistic characters. An entertaining mystery thriller with unexpected and surprising twists. Geena and Parker are evolving into a good working relationship.
Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.
I liked this one a lot . I thought it was well written and had a good plot with believable characters which fit into the setting. Overall a good read
Spring Girls is a well written and entertaining thriller. Well crafted plot and characters. I highly recommend this book. I received an arc from the publisher and this is my unbiased review.
April showers brings May flowers but this April brings a serial killer dubbed the Spring Strangler. Detectives find an unknown survivor but she’s reluctant to help. The plot moves along quickly, the characters are intriguing, and the ending is unexpected! Thanks to Thomas & Mercer, NetGalley, and Karen Katchur for an ARC. This is my honest review. Full review is currently shared on Goodreads and Bookbub. Amazon and Barnes and Noble will be added upon pub day.
