He would be the hero she needed and the girl that always held his heart. A great story of finally finding your happy ending.
This was a very cute, wholesome second chance romance! Our heroine Macy was a very strong, determined, single mother and I couldn't help but root for her and Garrett to find their happy ending! Her little boy Trey was so adorable and I loved seeing his bonding scenes with Garrett. I wish we'd had the opportunity to have a real scene with Macy's brother Duncan rather than only phone calls! Overall this was a really cute cowboy/cowgirl slow-burn second chance romance and I enjoyed it!
This was the first book I have read by this author and I love her style of writing. It was so easy to connect to the characters and the book was so realistic. My interest and emotions were caught from the beginning. The author did a great job showing how troubled youths can successfully turn their lives around. Garrett Greyson had left behind Duncan Joyce (his best friend) and Macy Joyce (the love of his life) ten years ago. He was on leave from the army and had returned to their hometown of Heartstring. When he was on leave, he tried to help the people of the town to atone for his bad behavior as a teenager. He had a few more weeks left before he had to return to his post so when Duncan called him after ten years to ask for his help protecting Macy, he couldn’t say no. He still loved Macy, but he wouldn’t tarnish her image of her dad and tell her how he forced Garrett to leave town. Macy was the single mom of Trey, her six-year-old son and was trying to keep her family safe. Mrs. Joyce, Macy, and Trey lived on her ranch, the Pride and Joyce, and someone was vandalizing the farm. Macy knew the people in town talked about her running the ranch without a man, but she didn’t understand why they would continue to vandalize her farm. She was still mad at Garrett for leaving her with no explanations, but as he continues to help her around the farm and spends time with Trey, she slowly comes to realize he has changed. But can they have a future when Garrett is leaving and Macy still has a hard time trusting Garrett?
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I have read many by Leslie North before but this is the first time I have read as the pen name Mary Sue Jackson. Every once and awhile I get a hankering for cowboy romance and this did fit the bill.
This has nothing to do with the author but I am so tired of the constant story line of one of the main characters making unilateral decisions causing a riff because the other person wasn't part of the decision effecting their relationship. Unfortunately that story line has been done too much and it was present here as well with Garrett deciding for Macy and their relationship.
When they were kids Garrett made a decision and left. Yes it was unilateral but the circumstances were different and he was a kid so it was more understandable, but as an adult the same decision happened and he was leaving again. This time though his leaving was legit and the fact that Macy kept getting upset that he was leaving again irked me a bit because his leaving was out of his control.
Then Garrett got stuck in a personal construct causing him to be daft and not see the possibility. When a book is written with multiple POV we get to see the whole picture sooner but his lack of ability to see the truth was tiring.
Then when his leave turned into something more I thought that came out of no where and didn't realize it was even a possibility.
Yes, there was some issues that irked me but the story was still full of sweetness and goodness.
2.5 Stars!
What a lovely book. I know when I need something light to read to relax, this is exactly a book I would pick. Great little story. Only downside for me was quite sudden ending but otherwise I really enjoyed it.
I thought that this was another enjoyable read by this author.
This was an easy to read slow burn romance that was easy to follow and understand and it had a great set of characters. I really enjoyed their interaction.
It is 4 stars from me for this one, highly recommended!
This story has such a full heart feel to it as I read. My heart wanted both Macy and Garrett to have a happy ending together. They were both hurt, broken hearted, and disappointed when they were in love as youngsters. Now as adults, Garrett is trying to make amends to the town he grew up. He became an honorable man, now looking to.do the right thing. I loved how he worked to make things right and prove himself. Then the scenes with Macy's son, Trey, were absolutely adorable. Trey pretty much is a scene stealer in each scene he is in. He was a sweet kid, wise beyond his years, but so cute. Throw in his hard working mom, Macy, and you want her to succeed. A strong single mom working hard to be all she can for her son, only makes you cheer her on harder. I loved her mom. She had very good words of wisdom at very important moments and really made both Macy and Garrett take a moment to figure out what they really wanted. I loved this story and finished it in a day.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the publisher through Netgalley.
Mary Sue Jackson’s newest book Protecting His Cowgirl was a binge read for me. I started it last night and stayed up all night reading it, even though I was exhausted. This book grabbed me in the first chapter and the pacing was spot on. I really enjoyed the short chapters as well. Jackson’s writing oozes with emotion. Her writing style is very straight forward and easy to follow.
The plot contained a lot of interpersonal struggles. Macy May and Garrett also had to work out their own troubled past, along with their shared past. Garrett struggles with trying to make his present and future life more meaningful and positive, after being quite the bad boy, as a teenager. Macy May struggles a lot with why Garrett just left. There was sexual tension for about 98% of the story. The dual perspectives were an added bonus, so the reader could know fully what was going on in Macy May and Garrett’s minds.
Jackson describes the ranch so vividly. I could completely picture it in my head.
While this was a pretty straight forward cowboy romance, I was shocked at who was sabotaging the ranch!
Jackson’s writing sets this novel apart from others in the category. If you enjoy romances and cowboys, I highly recommend this story.
I received an electronic Advanced Reader Copy from Relay Publishing through Net Galley. All opinions are 100% my own.
Loved the book and the theme. A second chance romance. Garrett and Macy make such a great couple. Trey is such a cute little boy. He made me laugh a few times. Can never g e t enough from the authors.
A great second chance romance between Garrett and Macy. When Duncan asks Garrett to check on his little sister, he heads out to her ranch to find out what is going on. She is getting fences cut, rocks thrown through the windows, and so on, and is frustrated as well as scared. Just her, her mom and her 6 year old son are on the ranch. Until Garrett shows up to be a temporary guide and fix-it man. A good and quick easy read. Felt the early years could have been defined a bit more, otherwise highly recommend.
Garrett returned to his hometown while on leave from the military. He has spent every leave during the past ten years trying to atone for his bad behavior as a youth. Much to his surprise, he receives a phone call from his former best friend who asks him to protect his sister after a series of frightening events have occurred on her ranch. Garrett agrees despite the fact that Macy is the love of his life who he left to join the military. Despite turning his life around, Garrett still doesn’t believe that he deserve’s Macy’s love.
Macy has missed Garrett for the past ten years, despite every effort to move on with her life. She even had a child with another man, who abandoned Macy and their son. Macy’s son has been starved for a male role model and latches on to Garrett who treats him like a son, but Macy still struggles to completely forgive Garrett and trust him again.
Can two people with a painful history together come together after ten years and find their HEA?
I'm a sucker for 2nd chance and lately have really enjoyed cowboys so I picked this one up. I'm glad I did as it was a nice, easy read that hit the spot. I do think with some fine tuning it could have easily been a 4 star read for me.
Garrett and Macy were teenagers in love when something happened and he left her broken hearted. On leave from the military, he finds out she needs his help so he steps in to give it to her. I enjoyed watching him reconnect with Macy and get to know her life now. It was even nice being somewhat inside his head. I'd recommend if you like cowboy romances light on the angst and steam.
I received this book on Netgalley in return for an honest review.
I do love a cowboy romance and second chance romances always warm the heart. This was no exception.
Garrett has spent many years trying to make amends for mistakes he made in his youth. Macy has worked incredibly hard to run her ranch single handed whilst bringing up her young son. When circumstances bring them back together, despite the difficulties involved, it's lovely to see love blossom from every side.
Although this book could do with a bit of an edit and a proof in places (eg 'breath' is used multiple times instead of 'breathe') it's a cosy, easy read and I'd recommend it other readers.
My thoughts on this book are that this is the first time I have read something by this author. I am glad I chose this as my read now book because It was exciting to read what was going to happen next. This book will keep you in suspense and smiling at the same time. It was heartwarming, romantic, and a very good book. I give it five stars. I am grateful that netgalley gave me the chance to read it in exchange for an honest review.
