This manga is so hilarious I read it through more than once. I look forward to reading the volumes that ensue.

Hello Fellow Readers,

This manga was okay. I expected it to be filled with funny and silly moments, which it was but each story just felt so short. Each story just felt random, and only a few connected together. I think the real problem was I didn't feel there was an overarching story in this. This isn't a bad thing really, but I guess I just wanted more.

There are stories that really made me laugh however, and I did enjoy the manga. I think I will read the next volume to see if it continues this way or if it delves into a story I can follow.

This is the story of a former? Yakuza member known as The Immortal Dragon turned househusband. His wife is a successful designer, and he cooks, cleans, shops, and generally takes care of the house. The story follows his somewhat humorous adventures as he takes care of the house and is occasionally recognized by other gang members.

The Way of the Househusband, Vol. 1, by Kousuke Oono is a hilarious manga about a former yakuza (Japanese mobster) who becomes a stay at home house husband. The whole manga is laugh out loud funny, full of a myriad of misunderstanding as people see the large, scarred, and suit-clad man as up to no good, when he’s just trying to be the best house husband of all.

Each chapter is a separate slap-stick episode of hilarity as he goes about his days of cleaning, cooking, and caring for his working wife. I loved what little we saw of their relationship, and I hope we see more as this manga continues!

Loved the art, the story, and the characters!

Thank you Netgalley for this free ebook arc of this manga in exchange for an honest review.

The Way of the Househusband is a refreshing take on the yakuza trope. In a role reversal, an infamous Japanese mafia boss dubbed the "Immortal Dragon" becomes a househusband, taking care of meals and the household while his wife goes to work outside of the home. He throws himself whole-heartedly into his new lifestyle, doing every task with the utmost seriousness, among other glimpses of his yakuza instincts. Behind his intensity, he deeply believes in what he is doing, and is all for maintaining his wife's happiness; the reader can't help but root for this "good guy".

This manga has been pretty popular in fan translations on tumblr, and I found it charming and cute. This first collection was mostly stuff I hadn't seen before, and I was slightly disappointed that it was a little more set up (even though that's the nature of beginnings). The translations were a little bit clunky (I really had a hard time figuring out if I was meant to read right to left or left to right, there wasn't the notice in the beginning I am used to from manga and I think it absolutely adds to the confusion to have to make dialogue fit in reordered bubbles. I also expected an extra beat at the end of most of the episodes, they all seemed to end just short of where an American comic would add a punchline of some sort.

Still, I read it fast and enjoyed it and look forward to the release of the further volumes.

*I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.*
Okay this one is great and I laughed the whole time I was reading it. It is one I'm already wondering when I'll be able to read again and I cannot wait to get my hands on the sequel.
This is going to be one that doesn't have a strong story, but is compiled of funny moments in this ex-Yakuza's every day life. I absolutely love watching him try to do househusband tasks!

I absolutely recommend this one to everyone. Be prepared to laugh!

I love the unique main character of this book! A gangster that is trying to live as a Japanese Househusband! It is sooooo cute. He just wants to take care of his house and his wife, but his pasts does not seem to want to leave him alone. He settles it as best he can...AS A HOUSEHUSBAND. I loved this book.

I have seen this manga on my tumblr dashboard a few times here and there, and always pushed it back on my manga TBR pile but after seeing this on Netgalley I just knew I had to dive right on it and I have no regrets.

“The Way of the Househusband” refreshing concept revolves around a former yakura legend, ‘The Immortal Dragon’ who leaves behind his former lifestyle to become your everyday househusband. It was refreshing, unexpected, original and more comical than I anticipated so kudos to the author for this amazing gag comic! I know it’s only a matter of time before this is adapted to an anime, so that’s something else to look forward to.

Slice-of-life manga is something that either goes very well, or ends up being meh. The Way of the Househusband does it very well! This is my new favorite thing! This is absolutely delightful (a word I don't throw around very often). Tatsu was a very powerful yakuza boss, but he gave it all up to be a househusband, so his wife, a designer, could pursue her career. Now he spends his days making his wife's bento (and snapping pics of it for social media), fighting the roomba, and shopping for a good deal. He can't help looking menacing, and has a way with words that gives people the wrong impression at times, but he gets along pretty well with the wives in the apartment complex. The little details are adorable- when he buys an apron with characters from his wife's favorite anime on it, and tries it on to show her in the middle of the shopping mall, for instance. This is funny, light, and a quick read. In true slice-of-life manga form, there's no real plot here, just, well, slices of life. I'm hoping future chapters will give more of Tatsu's background, but we do get glimpses here and there. I've already got volume 2 waiting for me!

I read the first chapter online some time ago and was immediately hooked. Tatsu and his wife are such a cute couple and I'm curious to see what happens with them next. The Way of the Househusband is a really unique take on the "slice of life" trope.

This manga is a great choice because it shows real life. Sure, you think the characters are going to be tough, but they're actually down to earth and normal, Tatsu does everyday things like cooking and cleaning, This book was a welcome break from some other far-fetched manga I've read lately.

this was good! just not as good as i was hoping. i hoped they would go into more depth of why tatsu became a house husband or even just in depth in general. but they didn’t. it’s still good though!

This manga had me laughing in every chapter. This book shows readers how ridiculous being too macho or pridefully masculine can be. Using yakuza as easy excuse, most of the characters over-exaggerate their intensity. This results in a vacuum being a ‘new recruit’ and a battle of blood over Instagram likes. It’s hilarious and 100% encourage readers to take a look. Every chapter is different but the story is cohesive, so the reader isn’t lost. To be honest, I think anyone who likes comedic graphic novels and food manga (i.e. Food Wars) would absolutely adore Kousuke Oono’s, The Way of the Househusband.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me a copy in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this story. Imagine a famous Yakuza boss, The Immortal Dragon. He has settled down into a life of domestic bliss, complete with grocery shopping, housekeeping, and making his wife lunch. Sound boring? It’s absolutely not! I laughed my way through it. I will absolutely read the rest of the series!

I love stories of how mafia members turn their life around because of a special someone in their life!! So cute and I can't wait to read the next volume.

This manga is on the mature side. The drawing is fantastic, quite artistic, and may I say cute at times. The plot of the story so far is that Tatsu was a former yakuza legend, and now turned a house husband. I think the story has potential and needs to develop more. The background on how he met his wife, how they fell in love, and how or why did he decide to be a house husband is not in this volume. Perhaps it will be in the next volume, after all this is only volume 1. I can't wait to read the next volume.

P.S. Thank you to NetGalley and VIZ Media LLC for the digital copy.

I was really looking forward to this one. I had seen a lot about it online and was so glad to see I had been approved for it on Netgallley! The MC Tacchan also know as the Immortal Dragon was very entertaining I loved that he wears an apron everywhere. The intricacy that went into designing his tattoos was impressive.

I really enjoyed this graphic novel because of its art style and entrenching plot. I would highly recommend this to fans of graphic novels and odd, interesting stories.
